25.01.2022 Alexandria House 4 was completed in 2017 and we are hoping to find time to photograph it soon. It features some pretty interesting joinery, some of which is an integrated fridge cupboard which is also part of a stair. This fridge/stair cupboard also sits next to a 7m high lightwell (on the left)

20.01.2022 Thanks to Houzz for showcasing Erskineville Studio 2 which we completed last year https://www.houzz.com.au//perfect-mismatch-a-space-age-pod

20.01.2022 Here’s one way to turn façade cladding into privacy screening. We doubled up a standard 18mm cedar board into 36mm so we could recess a custom pivot hinge in the top and bottom and effectively make it an operable louver.

17.01.2022 The stair at Alexandria House 5 is stacked with storage. In the tight terraces houses in which we work storage is king and its near impossible to not use the stair for storage. We have almost perfected how this is done with our last 3 projects having staircases similar to this which are integral to the kitchen layout. Our latest version for Alexandria House 6 is just about ready to go off for CNC cutting. Updates soon..

16.01.2022 The structure of Alexandria House 1 which was completed in 2013. Pine bull nose rafters eliminated the typical roof/wall junction and made them one surface. 35mm pine battens on the inside provided fix points for curved plasterboard and on the outside the same battens would be added to provide fixing for the curved corrugated roof sheet.

14.01.2022 We’ve had a bit to do on the corner of Newton St and Henderson Lane, Alexandria between 2013-2018. Looking forward to the cedar greying on the newer studio!

14.01.2022 Stair void curves ready to be lined in laminate plywood.

13.01.2022 Our most recent terrace rebuild completed early 2019 on Henderson Rd, Alexandria. What you see here is Spotted Gum shiplap cladding oiled with tinted Cutek. Polished concrete to 3k grit full aggregate exposure with matt penetrating sealer. Existing brick painted with 4 coats of Dulux Natural White masonry matt. Stairs finished in Spotted Gum 180mm wide pre finished engineered flooring. Kitchen cupboards in Black Melamax laminate plywood. Island bench is clad in Corian Glacier white with white plywood carcass. Handrail is 40x10 steel flat bar finished with Dulux Ferrodor Natural Grey. Pendants are Tuba Series from About Space Lighting and the black post at the start of the stair is black colourbond steel covering a structural column. Unfortunately we couldn’t hide all the columns but at least we got a light switch into this one!

08.01.2022 How to get light and air into a typical deep terrace footprint? Here is what we did at Alexandria House 3 By inserting a courtyard/void directly behind the existing ridge line there is no impact to the streetscape. Bedroom 2 has a window to the street and full height glazing to the courtyard. Bedroom 3 also has full height glazing to the courtyard while on ground floor the courtyard acts as an indoor/outdoor link between the kitchen and study which also benefits from the light air coming from above.

06.01.2022 Quite amazing what can be done with concrete. The team at Concretech One are putting the finishing touches on the slab at Alexandria House 6.

03.01.2022 Pivot is very excited to be a sponsor of Erko Berzerko happening on Nov 2. As part of the silent auction we are offering our architectural services for a bargain price, with all funds going Erskineville Public School. Also big thanks to Brad Gillespie from The Agency, the festival’s platinum sponsor! Share this post to anyone who would love to renovate but doesn’t know where to start! https://www.32auctions.com//au/69402/auction_items/1942560

02.01.2022 Alexandria House 6 ( Dibbs St, Alexandria) is under construction. The restoration of the front façade has been one hell of a process. Several old layers of paint were removed to the original render. 2 costs of primer then sealed off the existing render. The whole façade and side wall (on the right side of photo) were then set with 2 coats of acrylic render to make the surface smooth again and to deal with cracks. 2 more coats of primer to seal the acrylic render. then 2 coats of Dulux texture coat to give the surface some texture. One coat of top coat (dulux Natural White) gets it looking ‘near’ finished until the whole job is done and it will get one more top coat to finish it off. Plenty going on behind the façade too.. more reports coming soon!

02.01.2022 Having some fun with concrete at Alexandria House 6. This section of concrete slab peels up and cantilevers to become a bench. Soon to be polished and made shiny and smooth! Surprisingly easy to reinforce, form up and pour.
