23.01.2022 Monday PSA! If your wordpress site is being maintained by someone, ask them what PHP version is in use. Ideally it will be PHP 7.4. Anything below 7.3 is putting your site security at risk and needs to be addressed ASAP If you maintain your site yourself, you can see what PHP version you are using by going to your wordpress dashboard and looking for the site health section. If you feel comfortable with tech stuff you can update your PHP version in your hosting yourself ... Always make sure you have a back up of your site first as updating PHP, wordpress core, themes and plugins can break your site! If you are using a super old PHP version like 5.6, you need to update your PHP in a stepped fashion. That is, update to 7.1 then check your site. If all looks ok, update to 7.2 and check again the site again. And so forth until you are using 7.4. Again, make sure you have backups and know how to restore the site in case of emergency! A page builder speeds up the process, as you are not having to build from scratch using code They generally also come with a bunch of layouts to use. If you don’t have a specific design idea for your website, then a layout may be a good option! It can give you a starting point which can then be customized! 04.01.2022 DIY Tip #1 You can (and should) delete inactive themes and plugins from your website. This will: Improve performance as the size of your site will reduce. Reducing bloat faster loading time happier users! Improve security as every time you leave an old theme or old plugin on your site, the risk of a security breach increases.... We see this issue frequently in Wordpress and Joomla websites that we do ad hoc work on. Lots of inactive themes and plugins that just aren’t necessary and impact the quality of your site Get rid of them! Reach out if have any questions
