17.01.2022 Have you ever noticed that the "fruit & veg" section is often at the entrance of a grocery shop? Have you ever wondered why so many of them made that choice? Chances are, they have made this choice based on data and psychology. How many people walk in the shop when the freshness of the fruit and veg is clear for all to see, representing the shop as being fresh and healthy. Big eye-catching displays are used to attract attention and advertise offers.... Most of the time, we don't consciously notice these things. A good website works in the same way. Using content, messaging and imagery to direct, evoke emotion and promote action. You probably don’t notice these either, but if you look closely it presents loud and clear when you visit a website and you have ZERO idea what the business does, who it’s aimed at, or what to do next. What you are likely to do in this case, is "walk by", and find a more appealing solution. You can't move your shelves around, or put fresh fruit on your website (unless that’s what you sell) - there are many things you can consider, and do. This week's blog addresses the most common mistakes made on websites, and our top 5 tips to increasing conversions on your landing pages. Have a read -> https://bit.ly/3uIzI8x

16.01.2022 A successful website project combines the needs of your business, the needs of your target audience, and the skill and expertise of a great web design company to deliver a project outcome that works and that everyone will be proud of. 1. Think of your website as an investment. Whatever your goal, your website should be providing a positive ROI. 2. Set SMART goals for your project. Without goals, there is no accountability, and everyone is flying blind.... 3. Think about benefits you provide to your target audience. Customers buy benefits, and not features. 4. Don’t overlook quality content! It contributes hugely in persuading your visitors to take the desired actions. 5. Set timely communication, clear steps and expectations. 13.01.2022 Last week, the kids asked who invented the word SPAM (as in internet spam) Instantly, Monty Python came to mind. I realise they didn't invent SPAM, but who can talk about SPAM without a little chuckle. "Spam, Spam, Spam, Spam Lovely Spam! Wonderful Spam!"... Here's a few things we learned thanks to the kids: 1 SPAM (the square meat) got it's name from combining SPICE and HAM. It has 6 ingredients 2 The Monty Python Spam Sketch is from 1970 & this has been the basis of using the word as we currently do 3 The earliest documented spam (though not called SPAM at the time) was in 1978, and while the reaction was negative, it generated sales If you have a website and the contact form is producing spam in your inbox, it is annoying and potentially, viable messages can get missed among the rubbish coming through. There isn't one answer to all our problems. We use several angles to reduce spam from our website. As spammers find ways around the walls, we have to adjust accordingly. One of our solutions is using Akismet, a WordPress plugin which is usually installed in the default installation for WordPress, and needs activating. Another one is Google's reCAPTCHA. What are you using & how well is it working? #Ihatespam #webdevelopment #kickingpixels

09.01.2022 Looking back at the last couple of months, it is interesting to see how much our lives were affected by the unknown. A deer in headlights, or paralysis, are two phrases that come to mind. The shift to online meetings, remote working and online Friday afternoon drinks was rapid. Understandably so, as these took little or no investment. For the actual business side of the online equation, the shift has been much slower for a lot of businesses. The uncertainty around this new wo...rld certainly took a while to subside sufficiently to give the headspace to think about the digital world of selling. Selling a brand, a product or service, online can be daunting. Human nature is to distrust something if it's not understood. And I come to this conclusion as we see the demand for our Website Assessments rise sharply in the last few weeks. Businesses are reaching out, looking for guidance on how they are presenting themselves online, not by asking if they need a new website, but rather, how their current website stacks up. Having 40+ pages of information on various criteria known to affect a website's performance and ability to do its job correctly, creates understanding & leads to informed decisions for next steps. #kickingpixels #websiteassessment #websitedevelopment #websitedesign

04.01.2022 Following on from last week’s post on Funnels, I wanted to share some insightful statistics on lead nurturing and the value of touchpoints in your sales process. Did you know On average, 50% of the leads in any system are not yet ready to buy (Marketo).... Almost 80% of new leads never become sales (MarketingSherpa). Companies that excel at lead nurturing generate 50% more sales ready leads at a 33% lower cost (Marketo). Nurtured leads makes 47% larger purchases than non-nurtured leads (The Annuitas Group). 01.01.2022 Value propositions and why you need one. Competition online is tough. You have 3-5 seconds to articulate: 1. The problem - Exactly what problem you solve for your clients and customers... 2. The benefits - The value or benefits that your product or service can achieve in solving that problem 3. Why you - The reasons why they should buy from you and not the competition Your value proposition has to be the first thing visitors see on your homepage, and also clearly visible on all the major points of entry to your website. Check out our blog post below for more tips on crafting a great value proposition with examples of brands who have done it well. https://kickingpixels.com.au/how-to-create-a-unique-value-/

01.01.2022 How many times have you clicked on a website only to be taken to a page saying: "Not Found. The requested URL /404 was not found on this server." Most of the time, the "back" button can be used to get back to where you were, but what happens if the link came from another website, or a social media post?... Generic 404 pages are not only unsightly, but they are also leaving opportunity on the table. Consider this page as valuable advertising space - add your best products or most visited services here to guide potential customers, a search button or engage them with some wit. They clicked on the link to your website for a reason - give them a reason to explore, even though the link didn't work as expected. I love WhiteSpark's 404 error page - will Brent be sacked?? What's the best custom 404 page you have seen?
