25.01.2022 Sunset play truly appreciating and enjoying the world around us...and of course theres always some Pilates thrown in

25.01.2022 Enjoying the outdoors on an even deeper level than I already did. Relishing cooking beautiful food at home even more and loving the level of presence and appreciation within the contact with people on the phone, over video or standing 2 metres apart. The world will be forever changed and there is so much of it that brings us back to ourselves. With significant changes to my life thrust upon me its been a whirl wind of doing the essential things and adapting these past two we...eks. Firstly the events industry came to a halt quickly followed by Pilates. It has been and continues to be extremely important for me to ensure I take extra care of myself. With so much change in such a short space of time it has been easy to feel like a victim and in some ways we are, we didnt choose this. However, as my mentor Hayley Carr reminds me when I get caught up in all of the things and forget, we have the opportunity to reframe the situation from this is happening to me and changing it to this is happening for me. With that change in perspective we can begin to look for opportunities to care for ourselves and create for ourselves in a new way. If youd like to have a conversation with me about how you can make this work for you on any level please message me or book in for a complimentary walk and chat. https://www.pixicatoplay.com/walkandchat

24.01.2022 Have you noticed that nature is still doing nature things and playing and being and living in the moment, in abundance without guilt or holding back with no prejudice no matter whats going on. Its been a weird week for me as I process all that is happening in the world, sifting through all the feels and thoughts of all that is happening in the world right now. Im slowly creeping out from the metaphorical covers and this afternoon as I chose to work outside a swan just gli...ded up and boistrously honked and demanded my attention. Ive been in total discomfort with being creative and playful and light. For the first time in over a week I grabbed my phone and little tripod and captured the moment. The swan patiently waited for me to setup and even tried to help we were physically closer than I ever imagined being to a swan however I kept a respectfully safe distance for both of our safety. It literally came all the way up to the beach, almost all the way up to me and we played together. When I raised my arms to the sky the swan raised its head and honked. We had so much fun together. I give thanks to the swan and nature for the reminder that Im here to play and connect. Always. It reminded me that I too can continue to play and be and live in the moment, in abundance, without guilt or holding back too while also honouring what is important to me.

23.01.2022 Online Pilates is for men too Did you know Pilates was originally created by a man for men and evolved into a practice for both sexes. Joseph Pilates developed the practice from his studies of yoga, boxing, martial arts, calisthenics, acrobatics, the study of children and animals and later dance as well as many other influences. During World War I Pilates was interned in a Prisoner of War camp in England. During this time he noticed that bed ridden patients were progressively... weaker than others and began to use manual therapy to assist them with moving and building strength using the springs from the beds and other items as apparatus. This practice proved to boost the strength and immune systems of the those in the camp with many leaving camp stronger than they arrived. The association with dance didnt occur until Pilates immigrated to the United States and opened his first studio in New York that attracted dancers, actors and acrobats who used the practice for injury prevention and management. While Pilates is currently predominantly practiced by women there are plenty of men who enjoy the benefits of Pilates including many professional and high level amateur athletic teams now incorporating Pilates into their conditioning program. Last week as things fell I held an all mens Pilates class that has inspired the dedication of one class a week to men. This class is tailored to the different strength and needs of men and means you can all hang out together. Join the crew at 6pm Thursday evenings for a dedicated mens class and men are also welcome to join in any other classes on offer too. Class times Monday: 4pm Tuesday: 7am, 6pm Wednesday: 7am Thursday: 7am, 6pm (men) Friday: Saturday 7am *Max 5 people per class so I can give you quality teaching https://www.pixicatoplay.com/pilates

23.01.2022 Turns out capturing a still moment while teaching online is harder than I thoughtteaching virtually means lot of talking = funny facesthis is the most normal looking facial expression I could capture from video of me teachingconcentration face is on point Movement and in particular mindful movement is an important part of taking good care of both our physical and mental health. With gyms and studios remaining closed as isolation and lockdowns continues finding practices t...hat support out wellbeing are paramount. Add a little fun playful movement with some giggles with memorable imagery cues and you have a recipe for a practice that provides you the fundamentals for a well being. A practice with a teacher being there with you as if youre in the room together allows you support your body, our nervous system and overall wellbeing. Youre always welcome to DM me. Ill give you a run for your money with funny concentration faces too.

21.01.2022 Honour your energy For so long weve been encouraged to push. Do more. Get up early. Complete an ever growing list of things before you begin your day. Push through. Suck it up. Youll get used to it. But what if youre not getting used to it. What if youre simply accepting that you feel, well a bit shit, even exhausted, have brain fog, but keep pushing through anyway because thats what you should do. Life isnt going to wait for you, theres no time to slow down or stop.... Rest is as important as play. Rest is as important as work. When were truly rested our mind is clearer, our decision making skills are better, our reaction times are faster and our bodies straight up work better in every way. Were more efficient. Were more effective. I have witnessed and felt the result of too many years of lack of rest both in others and myself. Adrenal fatigue, chronic fatigue and other physical and mental illnesses. Guilt while resting isnt restful and recovery time drags on and on. Honour your energy. Listen to what your body is telling you. At times youll be full of energy and raring to go. Utilise those times and then when youre body says it needs you to slow down or straight up stop; listen, honour where youre at and make choices in alignment with your energy in that moment. Working with the eb and flow of your energy is actually more efficient than pushing yourself. Think the tortoise and hare, but better still you get to be both by honouring both your hare and tortoise moments. Why wait for a holiday or global pandemic to rest. Take time out. Step away from the computer. Go for a walk. Take a nap. Meditate. Get out in nature. Take a bath. Read a book for escape. Simply breathe. Youd be amazed what a difference 20 minutes of rest can make. Give your adrenals a break. Give your mind a break. REST I support people as they learn to work with what they have rather than what they wish they had without the trial and error journey. Why, because Ive been there. If youd like to chat about ways you can integrate rest and honour your own energy youre welcome to book in for a complimentary virtual walk and chat https://www.pixicatoplay.com/walkandchat

21.01.2022 We all need safety, food and connection to survive. Its important we stay connected while being smart about it and with the need for physical distancing, self isolating and lock downs while dealing with the stress of unprecedented times. Im choosing to use the language physical distancing rather than social distancing as we need the connection more than ever right now. Im not immune to the stress with my life changing significantly in the past two weeks and a fun gentle ri...de along the beachside trails was just want the doctor ordered. Company, with sensible precautions, was so welcomed with great chat, good laughter and even a little lesson on gear changing for riding up hills for Chloeits so much easier when you drop down gears The sun, the view, the breeze was so stunning and it lifted my spirits and boosted my immune system. Continuing to take care of yourself in mind and body and maintaining social connection while physically distancing is paramount. What sorts of things are you doing to keep yourself healthy?

19.01.2022 Vitamin D, mindfulness, movement and social connection while keeping a safe physical distance as we continue to adapt to keep ourselves and clients safe. As my private clients enjoy the final opportunities to practice with me in person albeit now in their front yard and 2 metres from each other we prepare to transition into practicing in the virtual world. Pilates is such a wonderful practice for body and mind connection as so many of my clients quickly learn when working wi...th me. Oh and that Im pretty playful and have some funny cues that make the movement memorable. If you like the idea of a down to earth Pilates teacher who doesnt mind a wee laugh to help you achieve quality movement check out my virtual Pilates offering. www.pixicatoplay.com/pilates or message me to find out more.

16.01.2022 Time out, resting, is as important as playing and striving for goals. A moment for my nervous system to take time out and calm with a light hearted book and Etta James dulcet tones. With our world shifting to being online so much more remember to give yourself a break from screen time.

16.01.2022 Adventure I miss adventuring so very much right now. Usually I like to go camping, get away and adventure in late summer and autumn once the heat has settled, but its not yet cold, but alas, not this year. So this week I pitched my swag on the back patio and lit the little fire pit and broke out a lovely glass of red wine for a moment of stillness and a different kind of adventure in my own back yard.... Is there a particular adventure or play that youre missing at the moment? Are you coming up with alternate ways of enjoying the same moments, the same presence, the same feelings? Are you creating ways to experience the same mind space that you achieve when you usually do those things? Im alway looking for inspiration for myself and my clients Id love to know how youre finding your play and adventure. Hit me with your ideas

15.01.2022 As someone who usually attends an Anzac Day dawn service Ill be showing my respects by standing at the end of my driveway at 6am tomorrow, 25th April for "Light up the Dawn". Note; the below is copied from the ABC article - link included at the end of this post. 6am is roughly the time that the Ode, the Last Post, the Minutes Silence and Reveille will be happening at the national service.... The ABC offers a few ways people can coordinate their outdoor services, such as: Listening to the TV, if youre standing on a patio or verandah Setting a TV up in the garage if thats close to your driveway Streaming on a device, like an iPad or phone, and carrying it with you. Whether youre able to connect with the live broadcast outside or not, there are some important elements of an Anzac Day service to remember. The AWMs Assistant Director of Public Programs Anne Bennie says the first of those is the Ode, a section from a poem called "For the Fallen" by Laurence Binyon: They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them The next element is to sound the Last Post, a bugle call used during the First World War (and earlier) to mark time. After the Last Post, mark a minutes silence this is to remember those killed and wounded in all conflicts. The end of the minutes silence is marked with Reveille, another bugle call. Then, hear the national anthems of both New Zealand and Australia you can sing along, or even join in if you play an instrument. "We hope the solemnity of the service is very much carried through onto the live televised service," Ms Bennie said.

14.01.2022 Sunset Zoom drinks with one of my oldest friends who I get to see once a year when were in the same place, twice if were lucky. Enjoying a glass of wine, checking in and enjoying the foundations of 33 years of friendship shared as the sun goes down truly buoys morale. Connection while being apart is more important than ever. I am finding that these strange times have given us more time and space to connect as the busyness of our lives dissipates. The incidental interactions... and conversations that we miss, that we didnt even realise meant something to us. These times highlight what we took for granted, what matters to us even if we didnt realise it at the time. Those interactions that we now realise we miss more than we expected. Check in with your mates. Were all in this together and time and connection helps support each others mental health. Were in this together.

10.01.2022 Just over a year ago I began journaling about my big dream vision. Its the kind of vision that you secretly desire, the one that is in every cell of your body, but you think is impossible so you dont allow yourself to go there. The kind of dream that as a child your parents would tell you isnt realistic and youre off with the fairies. You were told you dont always get what you want, come back down to earth, thats not how life works. With a little encouragement I said sc...Continue reading

09.01.2022 I wanted more My life has taken many twists and turns both in my career and in my personal life. Following the passing of my father in 2010 I realised that I was comfortable, life was good, my life was safe, but I wasnt fulfilled. I had a good life and I wasnt unhappy, there was simply something missing. I wanted more! I was fortunate enough to have an extraordinary mentor supporting me and turned a truly difficult experience into a life changing reflection and evolution.... With support and guidance I began the journey to find me. I began my personal development journey in the mid 1990s and have experienced acute trauma multiple times throughout my life, but this was a turning point. Rather than it simply being about grief or doing the work it was about becoming more me and enjoying doing it even when it was hard and scary. Before then I was sitting on the sidelines. I was watching the fun from the spectators seats wishing it was me. I was pushing myself to do all of the things but wasnt truly listening to my heart and taking care of myself. I had plenty working against me, but deep down I wanted it. I wanted my more in my own way that worked for me. Over almost 3 decades of learning, studying, working, leading teams, teaching; Pilates, yoga, meditation and music and work with mentors, coaches and counsellors. I live my more. I face challenges and fear and find a way to approach them and work through them and help others do the same. Im 45 years young in 2020 and continue to defy my age in so many ways including youthfulness in my attitude and past times with a wisdom beyond my years from the sum of my life experiences, my pursuit of deeper understanding and my desire to support others to achieve what I have without the tumultuous journey. I am here to bring to you the more with the wisdom of learning and life experience so you can take your shortest path to the good stuff. Lets Play and work out what we can do to move to there. If you like to know more book in for a Virtual Walk and Chat to begin your journey to find your something more and making it happen. 07.01.2022 Mindful moments Tuning into the beautiful environment available to us taking a moment for stillness and mindfulness before or after class, even for 30 seconds, allows your body to tap into the parasympathetic nervous system supporting your body to rest, digest and recover from daily stressors

05.01.2022 You are never too old to play and learn new things. Playing is freedom to explore, problem solve, create, laugh and so so much more. Add learning new things; its challenging, satisfying and fun. The saying You cant teach an old dog new tricks has been something Ive really enjoyed proving wrong time and again. A little while ago I decided I wanted to learn one of the things that I secretly wished I could do, but hadnt had the chance to try, skateboarding. I decided it wa...Continue reading
