13.01.2022 I'm moving office! Friday 29 November will be my last day at Dawson Street. From Monday 2 December 2019, I'll be across the road in a shiny new office at Loveday House, 7B Loveday Street, Goolwa!... I'll take this chance to say a huge thank you to the people I've had the privilege of helping over the last year-and-a-bit, which made the move possible!

12.01.2022 What are parents' rights? Almost every client who asks this of me is surprised to learn the answer: none. The Family Law Act gives no rights of residence or time to parents, grandparents or anyone else. The children are the only people with rights. They have the right to a meaningful relationship with both parents and to be protected from harm. Where the two are at odds, protecting them wins out. ... In deciding what can be done to enable the children's meaningful relationship with each parent, the Court has a very (very) long list of factors that Parliament says it must take into account. That list imposes a lot of responsibilities on parents both in relation to each other and to the children. This is why Facebook is the single worst place to discuss family law issues. No two families will be alike. Nobody's experience will be quite like yours. When it comes to post-separation parenting, the best thing you can do is speak to a lawyer you trust and lay it *all* out for them. Our advice is only as good as the information we have to work with, after all. Just like the answer to the question at the start, you might find the advice comes as a surprise; but information is power and will help you advocate in your children's best interests.

04.01.2022 I'm excited to see the new CourtSA probate service go online today. This is the most advanced probate service in the country. This service replaces the previous probate system with something much more streamlined. This will mean that families dealing with the loss of a loved one should have a lot less fuss to worry about in obtaining a grant of probate!
