24.01.2022 Last Friday night we attended the fabulous Master Builders North Queensland Housing and Construction Awards 2018. We are delighted to say we came home with the award for Commercial Trade Contractor of the Year for our contribution to the hugely successful redevelopment of The Ville Resort-Casino! This project was one of the most detailed PJ Walsh has ever undertaken and we are grateful for the crew of talented craftsmen we were able to assemble for the project. Led by Project... Manager Jim Meehan, and Site Foreman Nathan Smith along with a crew of hardworking, dedicated concretors and labourers, we are proud to have contributed to such a wonderful asset to Townsville and the wider community. Despite the practical and technical challenges we faced we are delighted with the outcome and finished product, which is simply stunning, and hope the tourists and locals alike can enjoy this magnificent redevelopment. 17.01.2022 We are deeply saddened and frustrated by todays article in the Townsville Bulletin reporting allegations of carrying out unlicensed, unsafe, uninsured works at the North Queensland Stadium. To clarify, PJ Walsh Constructions has never, at any time, undertaken unlicensed works. The advice we received from the Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC) for previous major works was that our existing licence was an appropriate class and met necessary requirements. ... As soon as we became aware of the allegation that our existing QBCC Builders Licence class did not cover the contracted works we immediately sought to rectify this. The standard application process was followed to obtain the necessary Trade Licence and all legal and financial requirements were met and approved by the QBCC. This approval was issued because of PJ Walsh Constructions exemplary construction record, industry references, and existing active QBCC Licensing. As stated in the Townsville Bulletin, the Construction, Forestry, Maritime, Mining and Energy Union (CFMEU) state secretary alleges that structural works already completed has not been subject to appropriate engineering checks. This statement is incorrect and misleading at best. Our contracted works do not include a component for inspection or certification of structural works. Notwithstanding, all relevant inspections are conducted and implemented by an independent third party and are subject to stringent government and industry standards as required on any government funded project. The CFMEU also raises questions over the quality of our work and the safety of the public. PJ Walsh Constructions prides itself on superior workmanship, the highest quality construction, and impeccable safety records during and post construction. We object, in the strongest possible terms, to any allegation that our work does not reach the highest standards and that we would potentially jeopardise public safety, or the safety of our employees. PJ Walsh Constructions is a local, grass roots Townsville company operating for almost 10 years, employing over 60 local people. We have a reputation for providing an excellent, superior quality product and service that we endeavour to maintain at all times. Our belief in fair, lawful, and equitable wages and safe working conditions is reflected in the longevity of many of our employees. We are very disappointed to have our honesty and integrity as a local company brought into question, particularly while working on a project such as the North Queensland Stadium that we hoped would be a positive experience.
