25.01.2022 Why don't many wholesalers want to supply online only businesses? We all know that online sales have been in a steep growth curve for the last 15 years. In 2006 I was predicting that online sales would reach 20% of all retail sales by 2023 and we are still on target to reach that figure. So if we know that bricks and mortar sales are flat-lining and that online sales are growing 10-20% per annum, why are wholesalers still reluctant to sell to online sellers. Firstly, the man...ufacturers and wholesalers really want to deal in bulk and sell to larger accounts. Smaller accounts can seem like a time waster to them. They hear their accountants tell them that it costs them $50 just to raise one invoice so single item invoices (drop-ships etc.) or low dollar invoices are a money loser for them. But the biggest problem for manufacturers and wholesalers is when online sellers think they need to slash prices to win sales. When well known products are sold online at prices that are less than they are sold in stores, this can devalue the product and take sales away from these big retailers. The product can lose its perceived value. The result is that the stores lose sales and no longer want to carry the lines. They blame the supplier for allowing these products to be devalued and can sometimes drop the suppliers entire range. When you think about, to everyone in the supply chain except the end user, a products only value is its ability to generate a profit margin. No one in the supply chain cares about the colour or the finish or the products design. All they care about is their ability to add a profit margin to a product that has a reasonable level of consumer demand. If a supplier allows one retailer to slash the price to the point where profit margins are lost, then that product has no value to anyone. So the trick is to try to maintain price parity in the market place. A supplier should only work with a retailer that understands the long term value of a profitable product and that price cutting is not the only way to generate sales. Call me Andrew Holdsworth on 0412 548 609 if you want to examine the price positioning of your product ranges. See more

21.01.2022 In marketing, we need to carefully identify who our customers are to ensure the marketing dollars are spent correctly. You hear marketers talk about Millennials, Gen Z, and Gen X, but who are these groups. This chart may help.

20.01.2022 We have been doing quite a bit of work assisting clients with their online sales and with their eBay sales in particular. Many retailers despised eBay as they found that they were losing customers who were chasing cheaper prices. Well there are 2 things retailers can do to combat lost sales. 1/ Concentrate on customers that are NOT just after cheap prices. Plenty of customers want better quality products and outstanding service. 2/ If you can't beat them, join them. eBay delivers 6 million unique buyers every month, and with our training, we can show you that you do NOT need to be the cheapest on ebay to get some serious volume. In fact, we know of some eBay stores doing $15-$30 million per year in eBay sales alone. Call me today on 0412 548 609 and make an appointment to discuss eBay coaching.

20.01.2022 My tip for the week. Google your business name and see how Google presents your business. A great result will be a nice photo of your business and or a logo along on the right hand side of the search page (next to the map) with some good reviews and 5 gold stars. If you don't see that, give me a call on 0412 548 609. Search for First Auto Parts Plus as a good example that is working well.

19.01.2022 Neto tells us that they are the only Australian retail and wholesale management platform that provides a complete solution for eCommerce, POS, Inventory & Fulfilment. We use the platform ourselves for one of our ecommerce companies and it is a great cloud based software product. It allows us to bulk manage product data and inventory and manage not only a website but also automated links to marketplaces such as ebay and Amazon. Neto has recently released a report called The St...ate Of Ecommerce 2018. Please let us know if you would like a copy. Neto online retailers have posted an average growth of 30% over the last 12 months. Fashion grew by 57%, Homewares by 55%, Motor Parts by 49% etc. The average shopping cart is worth $130 (higher than I would have guessed). 37% of Australians prefer making payments or purchases with their mobile! I must be one of the 63%! See more

18.01.2022 Are we really going to see airborne Drones delivering online orders in the near future? It is hard to imagine but I guess many things we are used to now were hard to imagine 20-30 years ago. Well, we know that self drive cars are coming. How about self drive delivery carts. In fact, the founders of Skype are currently working on self driving delivery robots and plan to start testing in the US and UK shortly. https://internetretailing.com.au/skype-founders-to-pilot-s/

18.01.2022 The Power of Email Marketing. I have just finished reading about a well known international clothing brand called Robert Graham. It is an American-based luxury lifestyle brand offering sophisticated, eclectic head-to-toe clothing and accessories. They have really got their act together when it comes to digital customer engagement and email marketing. They do all the usual things to attract a sign-ups plus a few innovative techniques such as free valet parking, whiskey tasting..., and even public appearances with its founder, Robert Stock, along with other sports legends and icons. They recently used Listrak to crank up their email marketing and increased their email list by 103.8% through multi-channel acquisition tactics, including a modal lightbox on its site, a signup form on Facebook and through POS and in-store forms. Now 33% of their ecommerce sales come directly from their email campaigns. You can check out Listrac here or call me on 0412 548 609 for more details. http://www.listrak.com/c/success-stories/robert-graham.aspx See more

17.01.2022 There is some useful information below from Australia Post. How to satisfy the modern online shopper Understanding online shopper trends can go a long way to helping your business get ahead of the game. We know you're already busy, so we've done some research that could benefit your business: ... Mobile is critical Research shows that 30% of all Australian internet users aged between 15 and 65 have purchased goods via a smartphone. In fact, it's predicted that among those who will make a purchase online in the next 6 months, 52% will use their mobile phone. Shoppers like choice We can be a picky bunch, with more than half of Australian online shoppers preferring a wide range of goods to browse and select from. Most Australian online shoppers also like access to items that are otherwise unavailable elsewhere, with 19% citing this as a major attraction. Good shipping arrangements are a must Value-for-money was nominated as the most important factor when considering delivery options. Other important factors were tracking and a reputable company. Direct marketing hits the spot 26% of shoppers cite promotional emails (aka eDMs), as the most influential prompt to shop online. This was closely followed by word of mouth at 23%, and seeing a physical item in-store at 18%.

14.01.2022 Interested in making $400,000 per year. No seriously. One of our clients is selling his business and in the 2015-2016 financial year the business showed a net profit of $424,269 on turnover of $2.4m. That is a net of nearly 20% of turnover. I'd like to think that Plan 4 Profit helped to achieve that great result. The business imports and manufactures a wide range of car trailers and has shown excellent growth over the last 5 years.... Call me on 0412 548 609 if you want more information. See more

14.01.2022 I was interested to read that Woolworths has now opened a retail ecommerce store in the Chinese online store TMall which is part of the Alibaba group. The evolution of online etailing continues. https://internetretailing.com.au/woolworths-cashes-in-on-a/

13.01.2022 We heard late last year that Federal Mogul were closing their Australian offices and warehouses. They really wanted to appoint distributors to handle their automotive brands and save costs. But Federal Mogul also owned Top Gun Ignition leads and manufactured these at their Sydney facility.... The story was that they were going to shut it down at the end of Jan. But buyers must have surfaced so they postponed the shut down to the end of Feb. Well the doors are now closed. Someone may still end up buying it, but every day that it is closed, reduces its value. Interesting. Some say it never made money. Well that is easily fixed. You cut expenses, cut production costs, crunch suppliers and put prices up. Most manufactures are always chasing sales. Top Gun appeared to have plenty of volume!

13.01.2022 More news on Amazon. key account manager, Brittany Rinker, said the company aims to launch Amazon Marketplace by late 2017 or early 2018, though she emphasised that this is not an official launch date. She also said that 500 sellers have already registered to sell on the Amazon platform. A seminar to help Australian business owners to be held in Nov in Sydney has already sold out.

12.01.2022 We have almost finished a great new auto parts website for a client. I won't post the details until it is launched but he very kindly wrote this great review: "Andrew & his team have been number 1, in building our new web site & online store. 09.01.2022 Working on an interesting project at the moment investigating the best computer management systems to run a small to medium sized business. These days they call systems that can manage all or most aspects of your business, ERP Systems or Enterprise Resource Planning. These ERP systems give you clear and instant visibility over all aspects of your business from a single dashboard. They clearly show you full profit and loss and balance sheet from the inbuilt accounting system. ...They also show you inventory control, sales management, custom relationship management and can be synced to your B2B and B2C website sales. The best part is that you no longer need to buy these systems and the expensive in-house servers to run them. You can effectively rent them and just pay a monthly fee. They are either in the Cloud (online) or hosted by an external server system meaning that you can direct more resources the profit making aspects of your business. Stay in touch if you would like to learn more about this critical part of your business. See more

08.01.2022 My last post mentioned that we offer ebay coaching as one of our services. Here is an article (actually quite old) from the ebay web site that gives some worthwhile tips for someone starting out on ebay.http://www.ebay.com.au//4-Tips-to/10000000019261717/g.html

07.01.2022 Great tips to gain sales!

06.01.2022 I have just finished recording and editing some videos for Melbourne Prestige Automobile Repairs in Croydon, Vic. to help promote their business. These videos are all posted to their new website that we have also just finished. Here is one of the videos featuring an interview with Carl Scholtz. You would be surprised at how cheaply we can create videos for your business. Our videos also feature on our Youtube Channel called Get The Message TV. We have produced over 30 video c...ommercials and these have been seen by nearly 40,000 viewers. Google search also loves video so it's a great way to improve your search ranking. https://youtu.be/iS_WE9qm-Wg See more

06.01.2022 Looks like we are in for a tough year. New car sales figures have just been released and sales are down 7.9% on last year. Mind you the car companies did have a bumper year last year. Some are saying that we are in a perfect storm. Home prices have fallen dramatically and this always erodes confidence. Consumers will pull back on spending, especially on big ticket items. Wages growth has been very slow despite full employment. And we have the newspapers full of talk on elections. I personally know of larger businesses that have put new projects on hold while they wait for the Federal election. They are also saying that the changes that Federal Labour are talking about will probably kill many business investment projects. Call our office if you want to discuss how these developments may affect your business.

06.01.2022 Wholesalers, here's a thought for you. If your biggest customer isn't an ebay business, you are doing something wrong. OK, that is a sweeping statement but what I am getting at is that ebay sellers in Australia are doing some serious business. Here are a couple of examples. Oz Plaza is a Melbourne based ebay store doing nearly $30m per year on ebay alone. That is approx. $2.5m per month in assorted homewares, furniture, tools, pet supplies etc. Edisons is another serious pla...yer selling outdoor equipment, tools etc. to the tune of $20m per year or $1.6m per month. If you want some tips on how to get your Online sales really pumping, give me a call on 0412 548 609 or send a Facebook message. http://avghinvestments.com.au/blog See more

04.01.2022 Hi Guys, just a word of warning. Keep your domain name details in a safe place and make sure that you auto renew the domain name registration. One of our good customers must have missed their renewal notice and as soon as the domain name expired, it was snappd up by a domain name shark. These sharks wil typically ten try to sell your domain back to you for US$500 (never pay this). That meant that their website suddenly disappeared along with all of their regular website traff...ic. We have since relaunched their website on a new domain name while we both attempt to get their orignal domain name back. One thing that can hlp s t keep your domain name hosted by a reputable domain name host and one that offers reliable customer service 24/7. We use GoDaddy and get reasonable after sales service. Call us if you want more details on how to protect your domain name. See more

04.01.2022 Are those SEO emails real? I often get asked about overseas SEO companies that send out thousands of emails and fill our spam boxes. Their subject lines include: - Top 1st Page Ranking Results.... - Trust AU-based SEO firm to deliver real results. - First Page Of Google 100% Guaranteed - We can get your website on 1st page on natural search engines. These are often referred to in the industry as "Burn and Churn". That means they tell you that it will take 3-6 months for results, and then when you don't see results, they can usually get you to the 12 month mark before you leave them and try someone else. Meanwhile they have charged you $6,000-$12,000. You've been burnt. They bank on keeping you for 6-12 months and then they find the next customer. They Burn...and Churn customers. Some years ago, all you had to do to get better Google search results was to ensure your name was on directory sites around the world (Yellow pages, White Pages, Yelp, Reach Local, Four Square, Reddit, Super pages, Ezine Articles etc.) , and then pay someone in India to continue to post information snippets about your business to these directory sites every month. As long as the snippets or paragraphs had some of your keywords in them, the theory was that Google would be amazed at finding your name all over the world and therefore rank your site. By definition SEO is not that easy. In fact, Google work very hard to ensure SEO doesn't work. They do not want the Google search results to be manipulated. They rely very heavily on giving searchers the best possible results pages and the last thing Google wants is sub-standard pages appearing on page 1 of search results. But reputable SEO companies know that there are definitely things that we can do do give our websites the best chance of 1st page results. These days, SEO or top of Google Search Results are all about reputation. Google wants to be able to calculate how valuable your website is to people wanting products, services or information. Google will measure: - How long do people stay on your website - How many pages do they read - What other websites refer to your website In fact, Google looks at over 200 + factors when ranking websites. These days, most SEO experts agree that the following are all important ranking features: - Keyword usage - Site structure - Site speed - Time spent on site - Number of inbound links - Quality of inbound links - Mobile Usability Other factors can include: - Has the site had regular recent updates - Does the content cover a subject in depth or just a few paragraphs - Is the content original or scraped or copied from another site - Does the site have useful images and video content - Internal links from words to another page with additional information - Bullet points rather than lines of text make the text easier to read If you are trying to grow your business and you recognise the importance of page ranking, please contact Andrew Holdsworth at Plan 4 Profit on 0412 548 609

03.01.2022 What happens when most retailers have our email addresses and contact details and they are all sending us promotional offers? Right now, most retailers are digitally naive. Only a few are switched on to the full value of digital marketing such as Group-On, eBay, Supercheap, Energy companies etc. Imagine how full our sms list and email in tray will be when MOST retailers have our details. Interested in your thoughts on thi,s both from a consumers point of view as well as a marketers point of view.

02.01.2022 We are doing plenty of ebay coaching at the moment. With ecommerce growing at 15-20% per annum, selling online is a must for retailers. ebay turns over approx $700,000 per year in automotive parts alone. Now ebay is adding photo search. Take a photo of a product you are looking for and ebay will find listings with similar items. https://thenextweb.com//ebay-is-adding-image-recognition/

01.01.2022 I recently went to a Shopify meet-up group session and it was well worth hearing the various speakers.
