16.01.2022 Leading a team of people is a real skill. When we go into business, typically it is because we are the technician...we are the do-er...we are great at the thin...g that we do and so we decide to start a business doing that thing so we are answering to ourselves and noone else, right? Then we grow... Then we get to a point where we need people to help us do our thing, because there is too much for us to do by ourselves... ...and this is scary! This either becomes the point where we will stall because the thought of employing someone is scary as all shit; OR we will focus on finding people equally good at doing the thing as we are, so we can create a bit of free time in our day again. But see here is the thing...studies have shown that only 15% of the financial success of a business comes down to technical skills or our ability to do the do. A whopping 85% comes down to the people skills and how well we work together with our team mates towards a unified vision. Now yes there are exceptions...we wouldn't want a heart surgeon about to cut us open to not have the technical skills to do the job...cut me some slack here, I am speaking generally! What I am saying is that our job as a leader may not actually be to find the most technically able person to do the do, but in fact to create the environment for the RIGHT person to become part of out team. If you lead a team, where do you place your focus? On people that can do the job or on people that can work together to achieve a result? #RPC #raisingthebar PS. If you're curious to know how effectively your team is working together, shoot me a DM for more info on a very cool diagnostic tool

05.01.2022 Imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited to all we now know and understand, while imagination embraces the entire world, and all there ever will be to know and understand. Albert Einstein Photo by Rahul Bhogal

03.01.2022 I found this poem and felt it appropriate to share ... stay focused Good Timber by Douglas Malloch The tree that never had to fight... For sun and sky and air and light, But stood out in the open plain And always got its share of rain, Never became a forest king But lived and died a scrubby thing. The man who never had to toil To gain and farm his patch of soil, Who never had to win his share Of sun and sky and light and air, Never became a manly man But lived and died as he began. Good timber does not grow with ease: The stronger wind, the stronger trees; The further sky, the greater length; The more the storm, the more the strength. By sun and cold, by rain and snow, In trees and men good timbers grow. Where thickest lies the forest growth, We find the patriarchs of both. And they hold counsel with the stars Whose broken branches show the scars Of many winds and much of strife. This is the common law of life.
