06.01.2022 Yesterday was NET's Awareness Day - Wear a Wig to Work on Wednesday Some of you may be aware that our fabulous Receptionist Harriet and her husband both has NETs (Neuroendocrine cancer)! Harriet says "NETs are seen as rare and people can live them without any symptoms. However the symptoms that do present are similar to IBS or in my case menopause but symptoms vary from one person to another. My husband as them also. We are fortunate than some to have them in our liver, th...ose that have them in their pancreases can have a shorter life span - 5-10 years depending on prognosis. Even rarer still is to have your heart valves affected which is call carcinoid heart disease - for a period of time last year there was a possibility they wouldn’t be able to do anything as my NETs were very active and heart surgery was looking impossible. NETs when mixed with anaesthetic of any type can cause a carcinoid crises which can lead to death I am told - didn’t like to try that so we held off. Had heart valves replaced in July in Melbourne and haven’t looked back since. Rob and I are currently stable and having monthly injections of Lanreotid." The staff had a fun day yesterday and hope to do it all again next year. See more
