25.01.2022 Herbs are a fantastic companion in any crop rotation or vegetable operation. We are utilising both perennial, biennial and annual selections in our cropping plan. Besides each #chemicalfree herb meeting our demand they also attract beneficial insects.... Since removing chemical and focusing on plant health with noticed increased populations of these ladybirds, bees and predator insects. As these months progress, we are expanding our herb selections to cater to all culinary needs in the kitchen. Look out for unique varieties like wasabi cress, Mexican tarragon as well as common varieties like basil, coriander etc.

24.01.2022 The workers have been busy down in Manjimup the past week. We are on the upward curve of increasing our own program of seedlings and our days of harvesting. Come September we should be back in the swing of peak production. ... Increasing plantings of our vegetables are both exciting but a timely process of organising and preparation. The more supply leads to happy restaurants and wholesalers around WA. A big day tomorrow visiting farmers for agronomy and fertiliser supply. Looking forward to being back in Manjimup Thursday morning!!

23.01.2022 This afternoon I visited one of my very first fertiliser regular customers that started working with us 6 years ago. His orchard of avocados, limes and oranges is located on a beautiful property in Middlesex. Having the pleasure of being shown around someone elses farm always puts a smile on my face.... Even though the grower says he is known for doing some weird shit on his farm I think he is doing a great job. Such beautiful looking trees (even though he has sodium issues) with lush new growth and loaded with fruit. We are looking for to discuss how we can assist him further with other fertiliser options that we have begun supplying.

22.01.2022 Is your garden a hot mess post-COVID? With 1 day, we were able to sort out a few garden beds in Bayswater. Updated plants - wild succulents be gone! All swapped with an elegant design including Teddy Bear Magnolias Broken reticulation - now replaced & working!... Soil improvement - enhancing Perths sandy soils with organic compost to help our new plants GROW! See more

21.01.2022 Look at these beautiful big, lush Joi Choi ready for harvest. We have trialled both Joi Choi (larger variety) and Pak Choi (smaller variety) and both have grown extremely well. In fact a sample is off to @mattersoftaste this Thursday and 180 going to a local fruit and vegetable box business late Friday.... These Asian greens have proven to be a consistent, fast producing, quality crop that we plan to grow in between the rows of other produce. The crop plan is being updated this week to ensure we have adequate numbers for harvesting weekly in the near future

21.01.2022 The nursery is starting to ramp up ready for spring production. Winter is always a tricky time of year due to the cold and damp weather. Seedlings require a lot of attention to ensure adequate root growth and strong healthy foliage.... Local farmers rely on us to keep consistent monitoring and attention to ensure quality is always received. We are looking forward to beginning planting some of our own tomato seedlings over the next couple of days.

21.01.2022 Dale and Pen from Goodies Farm are a lovely couple farming down in Kendenup. Moving down there a few years ago to farm in better rainfall conditions we really set the foundation of their future agricultural success. This year we helped them with granule guano, liquid micronised minerals, beneficial biology, trace elements, kelp, fish, fulvic and humic powder. Their mindset, regenerative approach in agriculture and value adding systems such as milling there own flour is proof that the industry is turning a corner in a more sustainable future.

21.01.2022 Great afternoon meet with @chefluke.wakefield at @balthazarrestaurant in Perth to discuss supplying produce on a regular basis. Meeting chefs who are not only passionate about their menu, but the opportunity to go farm direct is a very satisfying feeling . Sometimes theres too many middlemen between farmers and restaurants. Our goal to offer quality, consistency variety and volume which will hopefully interrupt the current supply chain. ... We are looking forward to developing relationships and growing opportunities with more hospitality contacts .

21.01.2022 Our tomato plants are beginning to get some good growth on them. We will start training them this week in preparation for their fruit production. It wont be long before we back to picking on a regular basis.... With around 4000 plants in, we should be able to supply plenty of restaurants and wholesalers. To ensure quality we ill also starting our foliar fertiliser program which consists of biostimulants, macro and micro elements and other nutritional inputs.

20.01.2022 Weve been trialling an heirloom #Turnip called Goldball. It has beautiful colours and taste which is typically expected from #heirloom varieties. If these turnips are well received, we will look at doing both a golden and a hybrid red turnip. If we can provide both colour, contrast and taste - it could have endless options in the kitchen! ... #heirloomvegetables #tastyvegetables #soilhealth #farmers #sustainable #regenerative #wagrown #localproduce #genuinelysouthernforests

18.01.2022 We have been growing lettuce in smaller plantings at our farm. We are focusing on Cos and Multi-leaf varieties to meet meal prep box and chef demand. At the moment we are happy with the results of no pest pressure, healthy foliage and beautiful taste.... With our soil preparation and fertiliser programs these would have been picked when their brix (sugar levels) were at their highest. This is another small milestone of different vegetable varieties we will be able to produce long-term for customers. #lettuce #lettucegrow #lettuceeatplants #lettucebefriends #lettucehelp #lettucehead #chemicalfree #regenerativeagriculture #buildingbrix #protectedcropping #chefsofperth #perthrestaurant #farmfreshproduce #paddocktoplate

17.01.2022 Our Lebanese cucumbers are beginning to grow in this nice warm weather. It won't be long until we have around 900 of these planted in one of our greenhouses. The plan is to have continual plantings to ensure we have adequate numbers to regularly harvest.... The Cucumbers are in single rows and spaced about 400mm apart. This is to ensure we have adequate ventilation and their large leaves have plenty of room to grow. Focusing on chlorophyll management, photosynthesis. brix building, improved cell structure and overall resilience will guarantee these Cucumbers are some of the best in WA. #lebanesecucumbers #cucumbers #chemicalfree #cucumber #cucumberplant #cheflife #chefs #protectedcropping #growingfood #greenhouseproduction #premiumproduce #wagoodfoodguide #wafoodheroes #southwestfarming #Manjimup

17.01.2022 Weve had some surprise capsicum varieties popping up in the greenhouse - purple, light yellow and small green chilli shape were all unexpected transplants. Sometimes the unexpected surprises can provide a basket full of joy in your life - in our case a rainbow joy basket These purple, white, yellow, green and red babies are coming back to Perth with us! Thinking we may need to look outside regular red and green in the future...

17.01.2022 The tomatoes have began their journey trained up to a height of 2m. They will be trained along the blue vertical string to ensure they stay upright. Once their foliage canopy begins to thicken we will use horizontal tuck wires.... These will ensure the plant growth is managed in an environment that encourages airflow to suppress disease and pest. The dense plantings are labour intensive but ensure high crop yield per greenhouse. We are looking forward to when our first fruit ripens.

16.01.2022 We did a test batch of Diakon radish in one of the greenhouses! Gotta say, we were tad worried that the heavy soil may interfere with their large tap root. Surprisingly these guys have so far grown reasonably well . Due to them being a slower growing radish we are yet to decide if they will stay in our ongoing program.... Theres a lot to fine tune in the months ahead regarding our growing program - so stay tuned

16.01.2022 Its been a wet wild day in both #Manjimup and #Perth. So much so that we had a casualty with a greenhouse roof. The silver lining of the day was we picked our First Eggplants Early long purple and Blacknight ... Once the new roof and blinds are installed next week, the temperature levels will increase. Changing the internal climate enables us to keep producing eggplant throughout winter

15.01.2022 Even in this rainy weather theres always time to get with some beet boxing on ready for an order. These boxes are heading over to @westerngrowersfresh to supply the #busselton locals with some farm fresh goodness. These beauties are bunches of golden and dark red beetroot. The smaller beetroot in our opinion are sweeter and are great in cooking.... We are sowing beetroot regularly in the nursery to have plenty to plant in our program. #farmfresh #beetroot #beets #beetbox #supplyinglocal #greenhousegrown #healthysoil #healthyplants #chemicalfree #wafarming #sustainablefarming

15.01.2022 The coming months will be both busy and exciting at Planted Passion Farm & Produce. With the craziness of the world we decided to pivet and slightly adjust our business plan. Besides supplying produce to fruit & veg box customers and private grocers will be working towards supplying restaurants.... In the next month we have another 3500 tomatoes, 3500 capsicum, eggplants, beetroot, and Asian greens to be planted. 13.01.2022 Our tomato program is currently at the top of our to do list. We have been preparing the soil with organic compost and mineral fertilisers to ensure the plants have the foundation to live their best lives. We are implementing trials with single and double row plantings at different spacings. Our goal is to determine the best crop return, most efficient labour and to ensure plant health is always easily manageable.... In this greenhouse there will about 1500 plants. Once we finish planting in two more greenhouses, there should be around 4000 plants in the ground. We are looking forward to picking 100s of kilograms of fruit per week by September .

12.01.2022 As they saying goes you can take boy out of the farm but you cant take the farm out of the boy. My younger years I grew up in the dairy, beef, sheep and cropping industry. My career then began in a wholesale nursery and vineyards in the Margaret River region. I spent 5 years in hospitality for a change and appreciation of food from a different angle.... After 4 years of being in a trades business, I raised enough capital to invest in a seacontainer of organic and sustainable based fertiliser. This commitment began my U-Turn back to agriculture by providing agronomy and operational support and offering nutritional, soil-life and plant health products to meet customer needs. Besides owning a production nursery and greenhouse grown produce business, our passion to support other farmers is the core of our love for the industry. From assisting each industry, supplying each region and offering a broad organic or sustainable fertiliser portfolio - we love supporting WA farmers. If we can provide services and product support to improve quality, increase financial return, offer diagnostics and solutions for problems, encourage a broad perspective and approach our return is priceless. For the love of farming

08.01.2022 We've begun harvesting out beautiful gold ball turnips from our field crop selections. We really like the idea of eventually growing heirloom golden, red and white turnips on a commercial scale. Simple variations like bright colours, different shapes and amazing taste adds excitement in every step of the supply chain.... We want to challenge what is commonly grown aswell as how it is grown. It will take time but we believe we are on the right path. #regenerativefarming #turnip #turnipgreens #brightveggies #rootvegetables #rootveggies #changingseasons #cheflife #chefsofinstagram #chefstable #naturalfarming #holisticfarming #wafoodheroes #farmingforlife

05.01.2022 A road train delivered 65 cubic metres of certified organic compost from #Dardanup (near #Bunbury) this morning. This compost will improve our soil structure, provide a stable form of carbon, stimulate soil life, enhance root growth and increase plant health. The results we have seen so far by adding compost has far out weighed the cost of not using it We will now regularly include compost as well as other ammendments during our soil preparation. ... With dedicated, hard workers we are currently prepping around 2000sqm ready for #seedlings to plant in the coming months. @ Manjimup, Western Australia

01.01.2022 Our first tomatoes of Spring have finally ripened in this beautiful weather. A lot of time and energy is being applied to keep them nice and healthy. To grow tomatoes year round we need to ensure the right varieties are always trialed and selected.... Strong disease package, pest resistance, taste, resistance and overall growth are important factors. It's interesting growing different tomatoes - side by side and really seeing the strongest varieties stand out. The next few weeks the pressure is on to get everything reading for picking, packing and dispatch.
