13.01.2022 If you have to guess, how many pollinating plants do you think PS has planted since we’ve launched the B & B Highway around NSW? The answer is 1200 pollinating plants in 40 gardens! And yes, we thought it’s unbelievable too! Largely located in a temperate climate zone, we have specific kind of species that we usually use in our gardens to make sure that they are compatible with the Sydney weather. In the spirit of the National Pollinator Week, we have put together ...a little guide for those of you who are outside our climate zone, in case you also want to have a go at your own pollinator gardens. Let us know in the comment about your favourite species! #growyourown #growyourfood #plantingseeds

13.01.2022 There is plenty of opportunity to create regenerative habitats in urban spaces. However, the science behind plant species (and the complicated words attached) commonly acts as a barrier to action. Learn the difference between native, endemic and introduced species - and what you can plant to create a regenerative space in your area.

12.01.2022 Aspiring beekeepers and green thumbs, this opportunity is for you! Earlier this year, we asked all our followers to help us by voting in the Australian Ethical Super grants program for 2020. Thanks to everyone who did vote, we were awarded a grant to fund The Hive - a training program for refugees with a focus on beekeeping and gardening. In collaboration with Arab Council Australia, PlantingSeeds will offer 20 places to individuals looking to develop skills in native b...eekeeping, carpentry and garden design. The pilot of the free course, to be run in the first quarter of 2021 will take place in South Western Sydney with economic and social benefits for local Arabic-speaking refugees. If you are interested in being part of the pilot, please email [email protected]. You can also find more information about this opportunity here. https://www.ps.org.au//artic/2020/10/28/the-hive-is-coming

07.01.2022 Can you spot the ‘Powerful Owls’??? Look closely for the two gorgeous adults in this shot...swipe right for a hint too! These amazing creatures are Sydney Basin Powerful Owls and were spotted by our founder @friedlanderjudy on a walk in @centparklands this week.... The largest of Australia’s native owls, they’re usually found in moist forests throughout the east. Considered vulnerable in NSW and QLD by @birdlifeoz there are 212 breeding pairs being monitored throughout Sydney to ensure this special pollinator can continue to support biodiversity. . . . . . #savebirds #lovebirds #lovebees #powerfulowl #lovebutterflies #biodiversity #insecthotel #instagardeners #gardensofinstagram #urbanagriculture #urbanfarm #thehappygardeninglife #insectsofourworld #macro_champ #greeneconomy #honey #pollination #harvest #sustainableliving #saveourplanet #consciousconsumer #noplanetb #consciousliving #BandBHighway #people4pollinators

03.01.2022 Have you noticed anything unusual in the sound of this year's summer? While we are all too familiar with the buzz call of the cicada during Australian summer, research suggests that more of the insects have emerged in NSW, Victoria and South Australia this year. And the reason? You've guessed it, it's the rainfall. Researchers suggest that this is a good indication of regeneration after the bushfire. As the cicada capital of the globe with more than 700 species, Australi...a is seeing a great emergence of the insects inspired by the regrowth of plants after the rain. As different species emerge during different times, Australians can hear the call of cicadas for months throughout summertime! What kind of cicada have you spotted in your area? Let us know in the comments! : Guardian Australia : A nymph cicada that just emerged from its shell, which lies beside it. The Conversation #cicada #biodiversity #insecthotel

02.01.2022 Plant it and they will come! This beautiful Monarch butterfly was spotted at Sydney’s The Goods Line in Ultimo enjoying a ‘Milkweed’ planet. Whilst we focus on native and endemic species for our regeneration in the B&B Highway, introduces species that are not invasive can also be important.... Monarch butterflies in particular were introduced to Australia in the 1870’s. It is believed they came from North America after initially ‘blowing in’ from New Caledonia! The Milkweed plant is considered the host for the Monarch as their larvae feed exclusively on its leave and develop into the beautiful pollinator we see here today. . . . . . #savebirds #lovebirds #lovebees #lovebutterflies #biodiversity #insecthotel #instagardeners #gardensofinstagram #urbanagriculture #urbanfarm #thehappygardeninglife #insectsofourworld #macro_champ #greeneconomy #honey #pollination #harvest #sustainableliving #saveourplanet #consciousconsumer #noplanetb #consciousliving #BandBHighway #people4pollinators
