25.01.2022 Oh no!. Just checked my onion chives and found them infested with black onion aphids (Neotoxoptera formosana). These tiny sucking pests love onion chives, garli...c chives, all types of onions, garlic and even ornamental alliums. My solution is to cut the chives right down to ground level and dispose of the tops (complete with the pests), then drench what remains with a soap spray. Repeat drench each week until the problem is gone. See more

04.01.2022 WE ARE HIRING! http://www.seek.com.au/job/50246986

04.01.2022 Strawberries are plants that prefer a fungal-dominated soil. The plants pictured were established in the spring of 2019. The soil was bacteria dominated when we... put them in the ground. This photo was taken 5 months later - you can see the thick hyphae surrounding the root zone of this healthy little plant. It is easiest to affect the biology if you start during planting time, or in the fall. Here are some tips to help you get a healthy bed of strawberries started, once you get them going, they will provide you with sweet fruit for years to come! 1. Find or make a fungal-dominant compost or worm cast. This is the most important part! 2. Set aside enough compost so that you will be able to add a couple handfuls to every plant you put into the ground. 3. When you prepare the strawberry bed you will till in plenty of the compost you made or bought. The bed we planted was about 50 feet long and 3.5 feet wide and we added a wheelbarrow full of compost every 15 feet or so. 4. As you make holes to plant your strawberries, mix a little extra compost into each one. This makes sure that your microbes are directly touching the plant's root zone - that is exactly where they want to be. 5. Once your plants are in the ground, water them in with a compost extract. This will add even more microbes to the situation, while bringing all the soil into contact with the plant's root zone. 7.Mulch the strawberries with fungal food. We used a very diverse blend of local brush chips that worked very well to stimulate fungal growth and it kept the weeds to a minimum. 8. Make sure that the first year you really pay attention to watering. Moist soil that is covered will do the best job at growing microbes. 9. Water the plants with compost extract as much as you can, spray the foliage with teas. This will keep a steady stream of microbes coming into the plant zone. The more, the merrier. 10. Use your microscope always! This will help you see what is happening in the soil. The more you know, the less work you need to do. Happy Gardening! : Keisha from catalyst_bioamendments
