21.01.2022 "A traditional Ngadju water tree. Water trees are mature gum trees with deep depressions where the main branches stem. The depressions fill with water that tric...kles down the branches. Sometimes Ngadju would break a stem or wedge a rock into a young gum to manipulate its growth into a water tree. Ngadju are the only people known to employ this practice for catching water." 19.01.2022 Now is a good time to pull out fireweed by the roots. The ground still has some moisture in it, so they come out easily. Fireweed is toxic to horses and other stock. So if we can reduce its spread, by pulling before it flowers and seeds - we may be saving lives (& vet fees).

16.01.2022 Join us for our online session Bush Medicines to Pharmaceuticals. The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples of Australia have built an intimate understa...nding of the land and its resources over more than 60,000 years. Despite this strong history, bush medicines remain largely understudied. In this session Elders and community members from the Yaegl community of northern NSW will describe their use of a number of bush medicines and foods. Researchers from the Indigenous Bioresources Group, Macquarie University, and the Griffith Institute for Drug Discovery, Griffith University, will then walk you through the in-laboratory process of examining natural sources for new pharmaceutical drugs and how companies go on to produce drugs. 08.01.2022 RAIN ON THE WAY FOR NORTHERN NSW - A DEEPENING COASTAL TROUGH COMBINED WITH UPPER LOW TO BRING SUSTAINED RAIN FOR NORTHERN NSW BETWEEN 10-50MM OVER THE NEXT 5 D...AYS A relatively dry start to July should make way for a few days of sustained rain and storms as a coastal trough combined with a surface low deepens off the QLD and NSW coasts from tomorrow to early next week. This picture show This system will drive moist onshore winds onto coastal areas bringing heavy showers, periods of rain and the odd storm to these regions. Coastal areas between Tweed and Newcastle look likely for 50mm - 100mm rainfall accumulations over the next 5 days (source & image ECMWF). Additionally, this moisture will be dragged inland and combine with an upper trough. This will deliver solid showers and storms to these areas. Falls for regional areas away from coastal areas(50km+) will receive less rain overall - but still, good winter falls between 10mm-30mm are expected. This will be highly variable given instability ( the rain is likely to be hit and miss in nature with showers and storms forecast ). Thanks to Weatherzone for the image
