25.01.2022 We are LOVING the photos of fungus youre all sharing with us. Whats the wildest thing youve seen so far? Were blown away by this shot from Fierce Flora this w...eek. "Last night we managed to track down some Omphalotus nidiformis, a species of bioluminescent fungus. This was the nicest display Ive ever seen with fruiting bodies growing half way up a large dead banksia trunk." love your work Fierce Flora! . . . #Fungus #Fungi #bioluminescent #Australia #FungiFriday #fungiphotography #fungilove

25.01.2022 My lawn needs mowed. But we are due for a heatwave in Melbourne so Im keeping it long to protect it. Ive done the edging though, as Im happy if that crisps up.

25.01.2022 You have to stop taking pretty pictures when youre in WA... youll get RSI! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UTuwPHhA7h0

25.01.2022 Thursday is going to be a scorcher (39 degrees) so please remember to help the birds, animals and insects that call your garden home by cleaning bird-baths and ...water dishes, and replacing old water with fresh, either tonight or early in the morning tomorrow. Be sure to leave a twig or rocks in the dish too so that bees and insects etc.can crawl out. And, if youve got plants that will feel the heat (anything not fully established, anything in a pot), be sure to give them a good drink tonight too. Your street tree would also appreciate a drink too, especially if its a younger tree / sapling. Moreland City Council

25.01.2022 I hope to reopen for business during May, but for now, happy to offer support to anyone out there with a free video chat! We know how gardening has caught peoples attention during lockdown, and there is still time for some planting in warmer soil before the depth of winter. So do get in touch if you would like to talk through anything before embarking on a project!

24.01.2022 An interesting article. Question: Is anyone using this? Is it being promoted as suggested? Does it break down as suggested? Im wary of it now. https://www.compostcommunity.com.au//why-garden-shows-are-

22.01.2022 I dont know who made this, but it sums it up!

21.01.2022 I was in the gardens the day this fell. I saw it, roped off, and then an hour later heard the mighty crash.

21.01.2022 A pollinator in seventh heaven. Diving in to my zucchini flower and covering its little back with juicy golden grains. Its time to look closer at the world immediately around us and enjoy it.

21.01.2022 Are there any flowers more perfect than stylidiums?

20.01.2022 Words escape me.

20.01.2022 Behold the gorgeous Stringybark Garden at Cranbourne Gardens. Under the care of horticulturist Kaishan Qu and team members, the Stringybark Garden has been tran...sformed from a tired-looking landscape with patchy plant performance to one of the showpieces of the Australian Garden. Two years ago, Kai commenced implementation of the Curatorial Management Plan to convert the Stringybark Garden to a naturalistic heathland, and this is the beautiful result. It was decided to change straight-line planting patterns to more random patterns, add in new plants with fire-regenerative properties including some pea species, and to modify the soil by digging deeply to bring up well-draining sand, adding in organic matter for nutrients and using lime to adjust the soil pH. Congratulations to Kai and the team mission accomplished!

19.01.2022 If youre gonna do something, do it right. Penneshaw, the Kangaroo Island ferry port town, does portalucca right. Its a great colour blast for poor, hot conditions like beside rocks, gravel, in sand. Here on roadsides it will provide long lasting colour. If you like lolly colours that work in a changing climate, think about using portalucca. And, if you can, consider visiting the beautiful Kangaroo Island while they are struggling and support the #bookthemout and #bringanemptyesky campaigns. Recommended!

19.01.2022 Speaks for itself. Tomorrow I fulfill a dream: visiting Kings Park in Perth. Im expecting my mind to be blown.

18.01.2022 Beautiful, natural Australia. Let's see more of it in 2021. Happy New Year to all.

17.01.2022 Barakura style gardening is about living potted collections. Im a big fan! https://mrplantgeek.com//what-is-barakura-style-gardening/

17.01.2022 This weekend is Kensington Garden Festival, Open House for gardens in the area. Enjoy! https://m.facebook.com/events/724278638054581?acontext=%7B%22ref%22%3A%223%22%2C%22action_history%22%3A%22null%22%7D&aref=3&ref=m_notif¬if_t=group_activity

17.01.2022 The health of our backyard lemon, and other citrus, has faced problems in Melbourne which previous generations didnt see. This is a new approach which I think has much to commend it, as other methods see poor results. I love the suggestion to go out and offer to do your neighbours trees this winter, as the wasps dont know there is a fence there and will fly across from untreated trees. https://youtu.be/_QmWf9YLXUQ

17.01.2022 Im photographing my garden before the 39C tomorrow. Record it so you can smile at it in winter. Then batten down the hatches. Some tender pots will enjoy a light break indoors tomorrow and an old sheet or similar over a precious specimen left out could save it. Water before and after throughout. Im hosting a garden party next weekend so sadly it wont be at its best, but its been a cool, if dry, season in Melbourne so weve had good conditions for longer than usual and thoughts are rather with the poor people around the country suffering terrible drought and fires.

17.01.2022 A tragic and inspiring story of what we have lost. Orchids you can gather by the bundle full. Food for your family. The beauty of nature that still is preserved in WA, but our recent history hasnt nurtured in the same way. https://www.theage.com.au//how-victoria-s-snow-in-the-padd

16.01.2022 I have decided to pause my business. I respect the calls by doctors in Spain, sacrificing their lives to care for thousands of infectious patients, to stay at home and keep the situation at bay. I would love to offer video consults, from your home to mine, to anyone who would like one. Show me your plant, tell me your concerns, Im happy to share my knowledge, and tell you what can be done now and when we can pick up supplies again. Meanwhile, Ive had a common cold for three weeks, and its not a good time to have one. My best friend has been common sage: salvia officianalis which has helped salve me. Please take extraordinary care, Alex

16.01.2022 Striking image of a recently burnt tree, exposing its vascular tissue, the xylem and phloem. Sad for the tree but good educational opportunity. A trees vascula...r system carries water and minerals from the roots up to the leaves, and photosynthesized food back down to the rest of the tree. Interesting fact: Trees have no muscles (or nervous system) so all of this movement is powered by turgor pressure, which is controlled by stomata in the leaves that open and close as needed. 14.01.2022 I do wonder when I see people tie things up why they bother having growing things in the first place... Ties are great for keeping climbers on a trellis or keeping one plant away from another. But this ...

14.01.2022 Plants give you a guide as to pruning. Starters guide to when and where? When new growth is showing, cut off old stuff above it. It’s in the way!

13.01.2022 Weve generally had a mild Spring, but the heat is hitting today. Im watering all my pots, like my beautiful fragrant philadelphus, because plants are in danger in this weather of scorching and leaf dehydration and may not recover. Drip irrigation of the ground, morning and night, and mulch around plants are also keys in heatwaves.

13.01.2022 It must be 1968, cos Im releasing The White Album.

13.01.2022 Conospermum caeruleum. (Blue Brother). Stirling Range National Park WA, 8.10.20

13.01.2022 Forensic gardening. On the occasion of the evening of 7 March, the peace was disturbed by the loud barking of a dog. On inspection, it seems a possum was nibbling on my prized flowers, while sitting on my balcony railing. The smudge marks on the window show where the dog was pressed against the glass. To deter future visits by the criminal in question, a course of vicks vapour rub applied to the railing is suggested. The prosecution rests.

13.01.2022 Renters CAN create a beautiful garden!

12.01.2022 We all need cheering up, prune your trees any damn way you want. Go for gold!

11.01.2022 Want that inside out feeling in Summer? This is at a beautiful vineyard in McLaren Vale. You too can use your plants to create signature effects.

10.01.2022 Plantscape Gardenings preferred supplier is Brite Plants, a social enterprise providing employment for adults living with disabilities in the northern suburbs. Their Open Day is coming up on October 19 and all are welcome.

10.01.2022 Sometimes a flower just drops you in your tracks. These beauties are in WA. I havent seen them in real life.

07.01.2022 Over the Christmas holidays the ferocity of the Australian bushfires deeply affected her people, flora, wildlife and the psyche of the whole country. My response was to paint Mother Nature grieving as she held all of the floral symbols of our nations different states and territories.

07.01.2022 Have you thought more lately about growing your own food? It is the ideal time to think about harvesting fresh food in a few months time. Here is a good guide, specifically written for Melbourne. Congratulations to Leaf, Root & Fruit. https://www.leafrootfruit.com.au/covid-19-panic-induced-e/

05.01.2022 I tend to lose my right hand gardening gloves. How about you? #missinginaction Happy Holidays.

02.01.2022 2020 is here! Another day, another year. And as you welcome a new decade: Look closely to see what the garden has made.
