24.01.2022 It’s time to put your runners in the ground! (And no, we’re not talking about the energetic neighbour putting us to shame each morning )... Nothing beats the taste of homegrown strawberries. And Tasmania boasts some of the best weather for growing your own! Take your pick of Adina, Melba and Red Gauntlet; all only $10 for a bundle of ten runners Plant in prepared beds or pot up in hanging baskets for delicious late spring and summer fruits

24.01.2022 The wait is over! Peperomia Prostrata, more commonly known as the String of Turtles, are now in store With the whimsical trailing habit of it’s patterned foliage, they are in their element in hanging planters and baskets. This peperomia needs plenty of bright, filtered light and prefers a watering schedule that keeps it’s soil moist but not soggy. Under the right conditions your String of Turtles will produce interesting green or cream coloured flower spikes

20.01.2022 An iconic duo? We think so! Pulmonaria and Lamium can be used to beautiful effect in mixed borders; brightening shaded areas with their eye catching silvery and deep green foliage. On their own, each plant is a lovely feature in it’s own right.... Lamium ‘Stormy Frost’ makes a perfect ground cover, and also stands out when grown in hanging baskets. Hardy and low-maintenance, they require moderate watering through the warmer months. Pulmonaria ‘Diana Clare’ is a lovely contrast plant, with it’s violet-blue flowers and silver-sheened leaves. Well suited to pots and planters, or grown in shady beds with companion plants such as Hostas

19.01.2022 Congratulations to Claire, the winner of our Mother’s Day hamper! Thank you to everyone who entered. And a special thank you to those who shared their beautiful/funny/heartwarming memories with us here and on Instagram

19.01.2022 If you’ve ever wanted to grow your own garlic, now is the time! Our new stock has just arrived- with Dunganski, Spanish Rojo and Lokalen varieties available. Garlic likes a sunny position, well draining soil and thrives in Tasmania’s cool climate. Hooray! When planting, always face the flat end into the earth and it’s point up. You can plant a surprising amount in a small space, just leave enough room for each bulb to grow to maturity.

16.01.2022 It’s time to Spring Clean your plants! We recommend using the first few weeks of September to give your houseplants some TLC, before the warmer days have you spending all of your time outdoors. Start by cleaning the foliage of your ‘smooth leaf’ plants, we find the shower to be an ideal way to manage this. Then you can move onto repotting plants that have outgrown their current home. Lastly, topdress and apply fertiliser, or entirely replace the potting mix for your remaining plants. This will add to their general health and encourage lush growth for the coming seasons.

15.01.2022 Maintenance The beginning of Spring is the perfect time to give some attention to decks/patios in readiness for entertaining when the weather warms up! To restore areas that have become slippery or unsightly due to a bloom of lichen, moss or algae over winter, pick up a bottle of ‘Wet & Forget’ the next time you’re in store. It is safe to use on any exterior surface and once dried, is harmless to pets.

14.01.2022 We’ve gone a bit fruity! Norfolk Island Black Passionfruit - produces sweet, orange centred fruits with a dark glossy skin. This vine is loved for it’s prolific fruiting habit and attractive deep green foliage. Watermelon - growing watermelon in Tasmania is considered a bit of a novelty. But if you have the space, with full sun, then there is nothing better than cutting open a home grown melon at the end of summer! ... Cape Gooseberries - this fascinating fruit is beginning to find popularity amongst home gardeners. It’s berries grow inside their papery ‘capes’ and are sweet and aromatic when ripe. Can be eaten fresh, straight from the bush (rather like blueberries) or made into the delightful gooseberry jam.
