19.01.2022 With 900 cats and kittens currently in care and more arriving every day, we’re facing crisis point with our shelters at capacity. Sadly, adult cats are often ov...erlooked in favour of kittens and spend much longer waiting to find a home. At this time of year during kitten season, adult cats typically spend well over a month waiting to be adopted, so they need your help the most. To help our cats find new homes and create critical space at our shelters, we’re launching a special adoption drive and urging you to adopt or spread the word. From tomorrow, 13 April, adoption fees for adult cats (aged 4 months and over) are reduced to $20. PLEASE SHARE to help us find forever homes for our deserving cats Single kittens will still be available to adopt for the usual fee of $235. For details, visit https://dogshome.com/find-forever-homes During our special adoption drive, our thorough adoption process still applies to ensure all cats are matched with committed families able to offer a suitable home and meet the animal’s ongoing needs. Our cats will stay in our adoptions centre for as long as it takes to be adopted, but we’d love for them to find loving forever homes as soon as possible.

17.01.2022 I can't get enough of this cutie
16.01.2022 One of the saddest parts of my job is the sheer volume of rehoming requests I get from dog owners. Several times a week I receive a call, message or email, and ...it is always the same - Do I know somebody who wants a [6-18 months old] [highly energetic working dog]? The dogs needs more activities than the family can provide. . This week it has been a Heeler, a Lab and yesterday a Border Collie. Other weeks it is a German Shorthair pointer, a German Shepherd and a Goldendoodle. Or a Weimaraner, a Malinois, an Aussie, a Husky you get the idea. . First - no, I likely do not know anybody who would be a good match for the dog. I have a list of people looking for dogs - currently it has zero names - and a list of people with high-energy breeds wanting to re-home their dogs. This list is very, very long. . Please do not get a puppy if you cannot meet the needs of his breed. The vast majority of dogs needs more than a full food bowl and a pat on the head. Especially during the first 2 years of a dog’s life, expect him to require DAILY training. Throughout the dog’s life you should plan on providing enrichment, mental stimulation and physical activities. You have work, errands to run, a family to take care off, TV shows to watch, books to read - but your dog only has YOU. . If you chose a working-bred dog, expect him to not be content with a 15 minute leash walk. Your dog needs you. He is only doing what he was bred to do - having a high energy level, intense desire to move and work, no quits. . If you want a beginner dog or a laid-back dog - there are plenty of lap dog breeds who have lower exercise needs (though they still need some!). There are plenty of adult or senior dogs in rescue. There are shelters looking for volunteers and fosters - that way you can get your feet wet before committing to a certain breed. . If you get a puppy of a working breed, expect him to take up a big chunk of your time for many years to come! . Please don't rehome your dogs because of who they are - instead, invest time into researching your chosen breed upfront. See more
14.01.2022 Reba grew up on a farm where she never got to experience what it’s like to live indoors with a family but she sure would love to! She’s looking for a fam...ily that will introduce her to suburban life and help build up her confidence. Reba would love to live with an active family with plenty of routine in place to help her settle into her new life. Reba is a very loving and friendly girl who enjoys meeting other doggos, and she would be happy to live with another doggy brother or sister in her new home. If you’d like to adopt Reba, please apply online via her profile on our website. Meet Reba https://bit.ly/2XTD9vn Australian Cattle Dog. 1 year old. 9 days in our care at RSPCA Warrnambool. 12.01.2022 This sensitive soul is ready for her second chance at happiness. Can you help Brooke find the loving forever home she deserves? The world can be a scary pla...ce for Brooke, but she has come a long way with her confidence and trust. Our Behaviour Team has been working with her for many weeks, and she has developed a very special bond with her trainer. This special girl is looking for a patient family of adults only, with no more than two people in the household. She’ll feel at home in a quiet suburb outside of the bustling city, and with a large yard to enjoy while she’s still building her confidence going on walks. As Brooke is still working on her confidence, she’ll need a home with no other dogs. Your gentle care and guidance will help Brooke feel like a loved member of the family, which is what she deserves She’ll make such a wonderful companion once she’s had time to warm up to you and feel comfortable in her home. If you have the patience and dedication to help Brooke blossom, we’d love to hear from you! 08.01.2022 FOREVER HOMES NEEDED PLEASE SHARE With 900 cats and kittens currently in care and more arriving every day, our shelters are facing crisis point. If you can... offer a forever home to a kitty in need, now is the time to adopt. Adoption fees for adult cats are reduced to $20, to help them find loving homes and create critical space at our shelters. For details, visit https://dogshome.com/find-forever-homes/ These beautiful cats are ready for adoption right now! Please consider an adult cat. They’re often overlooked in favour of kittens and wait much longer to be adopted, so they need your help the most. View our adoption candidates at https://bit.ly/ldhadoptacat or come and meet them at our Cranbourne or North Melbourne shelter. No need to make an appointment for cat adoptions just come on down during our opening hours. (Note that appointments are still required for dog adoptions). Cats are at different stages of their journey with us, so not all 900 are available to adopt right now. While some are ready, others are still within their mandatory stray holding period, receiving medical treatment, spending time in foster care, or awaiting space at the shelter to return for adoption. New cats become available for adoption almost every day. (See individual photos for microchip and source code details.)
01.01.2022 A great story, and good advice regarding microchipping your pets.
