11.01.2022 Platypus Mountain Retreat is a private and secluded self contained Off Grid Cypress Log Cabin on 200 Acres overlooking the pristine Oaky Creek. It is an area locally known as the Valley of Waterfalls. The main creek is permanent and during the wet season there are many intermittent creeks to explore with many beautiful waterfalls to enjoy. There are Platypus along the creek with a female living most of the year in the pool that is overlooked by the Cabin and during Winter if ...your up at day break you have a very good chance of watching her feeding. Some mornings she will feed till 9.30. You may also wish to walk 200m upstream and try and get some pictures of the male Platypus who lives there. The cabin is surrounded by a garden of native plants which are visited by many species such as : Eastern Spinebill, The Scarlett, Banded, Yellow faced & Bridled Honeyeaters and Azure Kingfishers visit the pond regularly looking to feed. Like our Facebook page "Platypus Mountain Retreat" for Platypus videos and other pics as it will be updated regularly. The Cabin is approx 40 mins from Mareeba & Atherton and once you have been welcomed and shown the ropes you will have the place to yourselves for the duration of your stay The property is ideal for Bush Walkers, Photographers, Nature Lovers, or for couples who want a private few days away in a beautiful location. The bedrooms each have King Zipper beds which can be unzipped to make single beds if required. Water for showers, toilets & kitchen is provided by tank which is filled from the spring fed creek & heated by a continuous gas hot water system. Drinking water is provided by Tank filled with rainwater harvested from the roof & bottled water to take on bush walking adventures. Power is provided by battery bank charged by rooftop solar so high power items such as hair dryers and toasters can not be used. A small wall mounted DVD equipped TV is available and we have a selection of movies for you to enjoy if you wish. A CD player is also available so you can bring some CD's or plug in your own device for music. Access to the Cabin is by MEDIUM TO HIGH CLEARANCE 4WD ONLY. Although the Cabin is set up as an adult only retreat we may make allowances to this rule after gaining some assurances from you. Pets are NOT Permitted as they are a danger to Platypus. You are welcome to swim in the creek. Open fires are Not permitted but there is a gas fired Boma Fire Pit on the balcony to help warm you on cool evenings. Dirt & Quad bikes are not permitted. 02.01.2022 This is the girl that spends most of the year in the pool below the cabin. It shows time spent underwater v on the surface. Note the bubbles she releases while underwater. It was taken 4 July 2015 at 8.10 am. Leading up to & during Winter is when she's out the most.
