22.01.2022 ~PRESCHOOL ROOM (RECONCILIATION WEEK CONTINUED)-29/05/20~ Another AMAZING day in the Preschool room today continuing to celebrate and acknowledge Reconciliation week, the children had a lot of fun this morning engaging in the many different experiences we had set up to explore. Firstly the children were introduced to the idea of indigenous face painting. Miss Mel showed the children pictures of their painting and as a whole group, the children and Miss Mel discussed the style... they used, the colours and when and why they do this on their faces. The children were very fascinated by this and so the Face painting area was then set up for them to explore in a hands on approach. The children loved attempting to do this to themselves and also to others, even Miss Retta! It was lovely to see the children copying the style of painting, the particular patterns and making connections to the world around them. Another area that was set up was our Torres strait Island, traditional head dress area. Miss Mel discussed this with the children and showed them a variety of different pictures ranging with different styles and materials they would traditionally use to make these special items. The children loved looking through the pictures and sharing their thoughts, ideas and feelings. As a whole group we discussed the places these might be worn and also who may wear them, the children then enjoyed being creative and imaginative, expressing their ideas in physical form as they each made their very own head dress. It was great to see the children sharing the resources, engaging in conversations with others about their creations and seeing them wear them, as they pranced around the room. The children showed a lot of interest in learning about the differences between the cultures within their country. The children also loved painting rocks with Miss Anitra and learning all about how the indigenous Australians used different rocks to make paint and how they used rocks to paint on instead of paper. The children were observed having a lot of fun at this area, decorating their rocks and again engaging in conversations about the different cultural rituals. See more

22.01.2022 Preschool supporting our families and working towards easing the stress of shopping, by implementing our very own Preschool Pantry, where families can take and share with others. What a beautiful way to not only encourage the children to make connections and understand whats going on in the world around them, but to also work together as a community, to positively support one another.

13.01.2022 Sorry previous post was missing some words on the explanation, Post has now been updated ~PRESCHOOL ROOM - RECONCILIATION WEEK (27/05/20)~ We began our morning with Miss Mel explaining to the children what reconciliation week was, the best way to explain to the children about this was to show them the three different flags, the Australian, the Torres strait islander and the Indigenous. We explained the concept that these 3 flags belong to different cultures that live within t...he same country, our country Australia. Teaching the children the concept that we share our land and we walk together. Miss Mel went on to explain to the children how these three cultures all have some similarities and some very special and unique differences that during this week we will explore, recognise and celebrate. Firstly we discussed indigenous art work and were excited to go onto create our own replicas of these on to some wooden boomerangs. The children also enjoyed looking at some symbols that are used in indigenous story telling and also enjoyed having a try at these in the sand trough, making up their own stories and using the special symbols to do so. Lastly we worked on drawing our own interpretations of the three flags, discussing what the images on the flags represent and sharing our ideas around how we share our country with others. The children loved drawing the flags and trying to copy each element. The most beautiful thing unfolded during this activity which I would like to share with you all further. One child had sat and looked at all three flags, she went on drawing her interpretation and was seen drawing the union jack, the big yellow circle in the middle that represented the sun in the indigenous flag. She went on to draw the white stars, the green and black and on completion handed her flag to me and said Miss Mel, I did all the flags mixed together because you said we all live together, so I made us all one flag to share. This moment was not just beautiful, but it was a pure moment where this child had listened to what we had spoken about and in her own mind had represented the idea that we could combine our flags to show that we really are one. We are so moved by this that we have decided to laminate this flag and place it on our front door of the centre showing that we as a centre acknowledge, respect and admire the many cultures within our country. Not just this week but every week, we are one and we all walk together!

13.01.2022 Dear Families, On Monday the 8th of June we will be changing computer software system and moving over to a new company. The current software system we are using in our services, Qikkids has merged with another software company and we have needed to find a new company that best suits us here at Play and Learn. Our new software system will be with a company called Kidsoft. Both systems connect and share information with Centrelink but in very different ways. We ask that you be ...patient with us as we learn and get familiar with the new software system. Some changes for families. - Your statement will look different; the statement will show the same information as your current one but in a different layout. - Sign in on the tablets will now be called ICheck-In and when you first login next week you will need your mobile to set up your new pin. If you have any questions regarding ICheck-In, reading your statements or any other information regarding Kidsoft please do not hesitate to email or call the service. Kind Regards Kylie Ashman Service Manager
