25.01.2022 So here's a little insight into Rhodes PlayStrong. At PlayStrong Rhodes, the children greatly enjoy connecting with their peers over morning tea. One of the great highlights of morning tea has been guessing the contents of, and then unveiling my little bento box. PlayStrong is provided for families with children birth to five who identify as aboriginal, CALD, socially or geographically isolated or for children with a disability.

22.01.2022 Making sounds, playing with volumes, pitches and melodies all play a role in helping our children learn and develop thinking processes. Explore learning through sound with this Water Xylophone activity by Bright Little Brains All you need to try this at home is:... 6-8 glasses or jars, fill them up with water in various levels from empty to full. Add some food colouring to create a rainbow. A wooden stick or spoon as a mallet. And there you go. A perfect activity for a rainy day at home #PlaygroupNSW

21.01.2022 Thanks to everyone that has been joining our virtual playgroups with this month’s activities focused on numbers. Children took part in counting activities, songs and stories. Lots of smiles, laughs and interaction was had while the children learnt through play.

19.01.2022 COVID-19 Outbreak Announcement - Monday 21st December Hello playgroup community, To protect the people of NSW from the evolving Avalon COVID-19 outbreak, new restrictions have been introduced for Greater Sydney, effective as of Sunday 20th December at 11:59pm.... Following updated health advice from the Chief Health Officer Dr Kerry Chant about the growing risk to the community, the following restrictions have been introduced for the greater metropolitan Sydney region: - The one person per four square metre rule will be re-introduced for all indoor settings including hospitality venues and places of worship. - The one person per four square metre rule will apply for all Playgroups using indoor venues and is now in effect. We understand that many playgroups will have ceased already for 2021, however, if your group is intending to meet this week for an end of year celebration we urge you to ensure that you follow these updated restrictions. 19.01.2022 Congratulations to Stacey and Xavier who are the lucky winners to our Hunter Valley competition. Stacey and Xavier will enjoy a weekend away to the Hunter Valley with a complimentary pass to the Hunter Valley Zoo. Stacey explained that the win couldn’t have come at a better time as she wanted to go away for her 30th birthday. Enjoy!

19.01.2022 This is Laura and Oliver playing with their play@home craft pack which was sent from Playgroup NSW after participating in a virtual playgroup session. We have 30 packs to give away! These packs contain craft and activity supplies such as crayons, paint, craft paper, pom poms and much more. Mawson Park will be hosting a Memorial Day service and to respect that we will be relocating to Koshigaya Park instead just for Remembrance Day. 12.01.2022 Today we celebrate Indigenous Literacy Day! This is a national day honouring Indigenous language and literacy. This is Sammy Jo, who works at TAFE in Wagga Wagga and comes to Playgroup NSW groups for story time. Sammy is reading a story to the children of the Kooringal Aboriginal Supported Playgroup. They have been learning about Australian animals and the different sounds that they make. The children love all the stories about animals. 10.01.2022 How many words should your child be able to say? Heather Boerner, Head Speech Language Pathologist at Chatty Child Speech and Occupational Therapy says, "At 1 years old, a child should be saying approximately four to six words. By the time a child is 2 years old, they should be saying and producing 200 to 300 words. They should really be learning a new word a day or two or three words a day. Learning at that rate should give your toddler between 900 and 1000 words by the ...time they turn 3. But it's always important to remember to not benchmark your child against others. All children learn at their own pace and if your toddler isn't learning a new word or two every day, don’t panic. It’s important to know that children develop differently and within their own time and if you are concerned, to speak to an expert. 01.01.2022 This is Savannah who attends PlayStrong, after our imaginative play with puppets session a few weeks ago, Savannah continued the play by making her own stage We made puppets for the story and song Five Little Ducks and it was extremely effective for engaging a child who doesn’t often seem to be interested in having a story read to her, but she became very involved when she could use the puppets to act out the story.
