22.01.2022 BUSY WORK After noticing Macy loving to pull her socks off, I decided to set up a little sock collection for her to explore. Macy spent most of the afternoon busily touching and waving the socks. Her concentration was so focused that she didn't initially want to leave it when I brought out lunch (which she normally is crawling fast for!) Sometimes play looks like it has no final result or outcome. This doesn't mean it isn't important. ... This type of exploration is crucial for development and I like to call it Macy's busy work. 20.01.2022 VERTICAL READING Now that Macy is pulling up on furniture I have started to place books at her viewing height. It has been a real hit and she will often walk along looking at the books. Sometimes I will just let her explore and other times I will sit next to her and read a book while she stands. ... TIP: You can position books to meet your child, such as on a box if they like sitting or on the floor for tummy time TIP 2: Open the books up so the pages are open. 18.01.2022 NATURE DISPLAY I love setting up little nature displays at our dining table where Macy eats, but decided to create a little water nature feature this time. I simply collected some wattle and added it to some containers. It was lovely to see the little air bubbles on the leaves.... Macy played with it shortly on the mat before I moved it up onto the table. 12.01.2022 PLAY SPACE I wanted to share our play space and some tips that have helped me create an inviting space for exploration and play for Macy. Add your tips below in the comments. ... What works for us: setting up a space where we hang out. This is our living room which is where we are all the time and where Macy wants to be, with us. Items at Macy level She can easily crawl to these shelves and pick items to play with Selecting toys and items that are in her zone of learning and that she is interested in. You might notice some tins on the right because she has just started posting items. She also has a sock fascination at the moment so I have collected socks small, big and different colours to explore. I rotate items Roughly every week I change things up. There are no set rules to this but I do keep things she is enjoying, put items away that she isnt playing with or change how they are displayed. Always have books It doesn't always stay this tidy often at the end of the day there are bits all about the place If you have any questions, comment below or send me a DM. 05.01.2022 LANGUAGE BASKET Are a way to explore language. Learning categorise are an important part of baby development. I put together a simple ball language basket with a range of balls and some of the language cards I created.... I love exploring language with Macy and chatting with her. She is learning so much so quickly.
