25.01.2022 Today, at the Remembrance Day Service, we remembered Old Collegian Joan Deaman (Baty 1938) and all those who served. Lest we forget...

24.01.2022 It is with great sadness we advise the passing of Dr Sally Cook (1982) late last week, after a long battle with breast cancer. Sally was an enormous part of the PLC community - first as a Kindergarten student in 1969, all the way through until Year 12 in 1982, when she was also McNeil House Captain; as the mother of Terra Tormey (2011); and as President of the Old Collegians Association from 2011 to 2014. She was the adored daughter of Jeannie Forrest, sister of Philippa Coo...k (1978), Andrea Monkhouse (Cook 1979) and Diana Cook (1983). One of seven of our girls to graduate from UWA in Medicine in 1989, Sally became a general practitioner focused on integrative medicine. She was always quietly supportive of those in need. Our sincere sympathy is extended to her family, her many friends, and everyone who loved her. Do more of what you love, find joy around and within you" Closing remark, Sallys 2014 OCA Presidents report.

16.01.2022 Traditionally, we would be celebrating our artists at the OCA Art Exhibition this weekend. Sadly, this is not the case this year, however one of our past exhibitors, Phoebe DSouza (Woods 1995) was spotted in last weeks Western Suburbs Weekly - Weaving magic into homes. Phoebes gorgeous three abstract creations were displayed in the 2020 House Rules, WA teams home renovation. The three works were happy and colourful paintings with a textural element that would suit anywhere but particularly a kids bedroom with the blocks of colour. Congratulations Phoebe and we look forward to celebrating with all of our artists at the 2021 OCA Art Exhibition, next year.

16.01.2022 Yesterday, the Class of 1960 enjoyed their 60 year reunion at PLC with the traditional group photo before sitting down for a lovely meal in the Lighthouse.

14.01.2022 Did you know that the latest co-curricular programme offered after school every Monday - Kidz ‘n Sport - is owned and operated by PLC's own Rebecca Dunsdon (Class of 2017)? Rebecca cannot wait to have fun with our students developing their general sporting abilities and fitness levels and recently took the time to reflect on her time at PLC and share a little bit more about her journey. "I have always loved sport and was an avid rower during my time at PLC. I learned so muc...h about discipline, resilience and teamwork through sport and rowing at PLC without even realising it because I was having so much fun. During my undergrad, I had the opportunity to come back to PLC and work as a Rowing Coach which was when I discovered how passionate I was about teaching. When I finished my degree in Biomedical Science at the end of 2020, I realised that I liked science and research but I didn't love it as much as I loved my job coaching and working with kids, so when I heard about the opportunity to take on the Kidz 'n Sport Nedlands business as the new owner and head coach I decided to be brave and jump right in. Now I get to work with kids every day to develop their sporting skills and teach them about the importance of being active. I am so excited to bring Kidz 'n Sport to PLC and contribute to the excellent co-curricular activities that PLC offers. I would have loved to do something like Kidz 'n Sport when I was in Junior School." See more

14.01.2022 Its Time Travel Tuesday!

11.01.2022 Renowned realist artist, Marcus Beilby, came to inspect our portrait of past Principal, Mrs Hazel Day, to make sure it was looking as good as the day he painted it 20 years ago! Thank you, Marcus. This portrait has a very special place in our hearts.

11.01.2022 This week, Old Collegian and Soprano, Sara Macliver (1985) and pianist, Caroline Badnall spoke to the POST Newspapers about a recital they are performing as part of a programme to help musicians struggling as a result of COVID-19. The performance was recorded in Government Houses ballroom and will be available to watch in the comfort of your own home at 6.30 pm on Wednesday 1 July. For $24 (per household) you can see and hear them do a full concert including, Bach, Handel, M...ozart and Jubilate. 11.01.2022 We are incredibly proud of Georgie Smith (1986) and all she has accomplished in America for the youth who are aging out of the foster care system. This story shows how A Sense of Home evolved into the necessary service it is today, which makes these kids feel they have a home, that they are worthwhile, and have a future. Wonderful stuff. Good on you, Georgie!... https://www.facebook.com/georgie.smith.58511/posts/10158936124202938

10.01.2022 Over 300 Old Collegians came to celebrate the Association's 100th birthday at the OCA Centenary Champagne High Tea on the Quad. 100 has never looked better! Thank you to all who made this such a special event.

09.01.2022 Sandie Stewart (1986) lives on a farm in Goughs Bay, New Zealand, where they run cattle, but they also keep half a dozen house sheep. They were long overdue for a haircut, so last week Sandies farm neighbours in Paua Bay offered to teach her how to shear. "They made it look easy! she said. ... Never let it be said PLC girls arent game to try new things, so here is Sandie bravely shearing Bertie, one of her house sheep, on Sunday. His head is under there somewhere! Sandie did fabulously well, but forgot to bend her knees and was a bit stiff on Monday! Since her shearing rate is currently about half a sheep per day, shes not sure shell make a successful career out of it, but we think thats pretty inspiring! Who wants to see a photo of Bertie, fully shorn?

09.01.2022 Every year, the OCA awards one Old Collegian with the PLC OCA Inspiring Woman Award. This morning, Tessa MacKay (2008) was announced as the winner! Tessa is a brilliant example of Rumi’s 'let your beauty of what you live be what you do!' She addressed the Senior School students at the Principal's Assembly and spoke about how she struggled in certain areas at school but always focussed on her artistic pursuits as her true passion. Tess paints contemporary realism, large-scale ...hyperrealism and photorealism portraiture. Her most recent artwork, Through the Looking Glass, was a 2019 Archibald Finalist and the winner of the 2019 Archibald Packing Room Prize. 04.01.2022 In normal circumstances, Old Collegian Pru Wright (1984) would be busy making her wonderful handmade keepsake bears. Understandably, her business, Blazer Bear is not as busy as normal. While in lockdown in her home in the south of England, Pru and her son Harry have transformed her living room into a production line for making reusable non-medical cloth face masks to donate to anyone/organisation in need. Harry and I have made over 3000 masks donated and sent all over the U.K. We are delighted to have raised 2500 pounds for Hospice in the Weald. What an amazing accomplishment. Well done, Pru!

03.01.2022 Sad news received this week, of the death of Dr Trisha Kotai-Ewers OAM (Ewers 1956) on 17 January, aged 81. Trisha, who taught French here for ten years (from 1979 to 1988), was the daughter of Jean nee McIntyre and John Keith Ewers. Known as 'JK' or 'Keith, Trisha's father was a teacher, a literary legend, and the founding President of the Fellowship of Australian Writers of WA (FAWWA). Among the many books he wrote was ‘Living English’, a WA curriculum textbook in use for m...any years. Trisha, their only child, took after her father. Trisha was actually an Old Girl, although only attended Kindy briefly in 1943. She told us, in 2009, her mother came to pick her up one afternoon and saw tiny Trisha, three years old, walking along the top balustrade of Summers House, with her arms stretched out like it was a tight rope, and a sheer 4-5m drop to the ground. The Ewers lived at 13 Keane Street so, perhaps unsurprisingly, Mrs Ewers then sent Trisha to Cottesloe Primary. Like her father, she received a scholarship to Perth Modern School, after which she trained as a ballet dancer, learnt three languages and became a French teacher. Later, she undertook her Master of Philosophy and completed a PhD on the FAWWA, spending a great deal of time in the Battye Library. Trisha was on the FAWWA for more than two decades and its President for more than a dozen of those years during which, FAWWA advises, she was the driving force behind the 1990s relocation (from Clement Street, Swanbourne, to nearby Allen Park) and restoration of both Tom Collins' and Mattie Furphy Houses, both of which serve as FAWWA administration and events spaces. Her poetry was published many times and, in 2007 she published her book ‘Listen to the Talk of Us: People with Dementia Speak Out’. This contributed to her being awarded an OAM in 2015 for service to literature and to people with Alzheimer’s. Here at PLC Madame Kotai was very well liked and respected. She organised all of the French trips and accompanied each lot, and was also Summers House Advisor from 1984 to 1988. Jenny Hetherington, on our staff from 1979 to 2018 and Trisha's dear friend from their days together here, last saw Trisha in the middle of last year when, she says, while Trisha was becoming the tiniest bit frail, she was "still completely and marvelously herself. We extend our sincere condolences to her daughters, Haede, Kate (1983) and Clara Kotai (1987), the rest of her family, and the many who loved her.

03.01.2022 The PLC OCA has recently introduced to PLC honour boards to identify and honour all the recipients of the three annual OCA Bursaries - beginning in 1986, for both the Dr Vera Summers and the Olive Cusack Bursary, and in 1990, for the Heather Barr Memorial. To commemorate this occasion, The OCA held a special ribbon-cutting ceremony and afternoon tea. It was lovely to see so many past recipients and OCA members attend this afternoon!

01.01.2022 Earlier this month, Artist and former PLC student, Kerry Leighs artwork, Flowers No3, featured on Channel 7s House Rules! Flowers No3 is an abstract and impressionistic work that reveals a highly textured image, engaging the viewer through its structure, colour and patterns. I love using thick texture in all of my works, and my Flowers series is inspired by the beautiful West Australian wildflowers said Kerry Leigh. ... Congratulations, Kerry! We are so proud of you. Go to instagram.com/kerryleighart to see more of her work.
