Saturday December 26 Boxing Day golf was played by 50 Men, including nine visitors from Tea Tree Gully, Waikerie, Tumby Bay, Glenelg, West Lakes, Thaxted Park and Mt Osmond Golf Clubs, and no Union members. Tony Dragun had the score of the day to win A Grade with 42 Stableford points from Adam Sullivan on 38. The B Grade winner was Brenton George with 38 from Peter Fare 37, and visitors Major Lienert and William Sullivan took out C Grade with 40 and 39 points respectively. Rundowns went to visitor Lachlan Gale and Rick Kolega 37 and Jason Verhees and Grant Woods, both on 36 points. No Ladies’ scores were advised. NTP Winners were visitor Wayne Everett (twice), Paul Oldacre, Brett Davies, Rex Martin, Jamie Puddy and visitor Chris Everett. Birdies came from Jamie Puddy and Rex Martin. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thursday December 24 Christmas Eve Day saw only eight players, sponsored by Evoke Haircutters and Initial Reaction. There were seven visitors, from Gailes, Mt Osmond, Tin Cup, Waikerie, Blackwood and Alice Springs Golf Clubs. Brock Wise won A Grade with 40 Stableford points from Chris Brooks 37. Kym Clarke planned his way around the course to win B Grade with 44 points from Juri Berzins 40. In C Grade, Farmer Phil Hyde had the score of the day with an unbeatable 46 points, probably from a disappointed visitor Michael Mazey who amassed 45 points. Rundowns went to Graeme Dyke and Samuel Beare 39, Lance Appleby 38 and Taylor Ford, Rex Bichard and Maurie Barry, all on 37 points. Rundowns went to Ashley Durdin and Bob Sorensen 72, Jack Shanley and Stephen Rees and Lindsay Gordon and John Cheriton, both with 70, and Chris Cottrell and Juri Berzins on 68. Eight Ladies played a normal Stableford competition and this was won by Val Sharrad 38 from Deb Sykes on 35. 18.01.2022 By Ross Sharrad Thursday October 8 The first round of the Golf and Seafood Open Championships began in finer conditions, with 68 men and 26 women hitting off; visitors came from Moonta, Tailem Bend, SA Hardware, Thaxted Park, Port Augusta, Roxby Downs, West Lakes, Mount Osmond, Tin Cup, Whyalla, Coffin Bay and Balaklava Golf Clubs.... The handicap winners for Day One were visitor Roger Forrest in A Grade with 69 nett, from Luke Murray on 70. B Grade winner was Robert Proude 68 from visitor Terry Haydon on 74 and evergreen local Kevin Reidy won C Grade with 72 from visitor Jeff Doyle on 75. In the Ladies’ division, the winner in A Grade was Elaine Pierik with 74 from Carolyn Cocks 75 and the B Grade winner was Adie Fraser 79 from visitor Gillian Doyle 80. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Friday October 9 The second day of the Championships was again held in ideal weather conditions. There were 73 Men, including 26 visitors and 24 Ladies’ with eight visitors, all from the Clubs who played the previous day. Matt Parker, Robert Proude and visitor Robert Hughes won the Long Drives in their respective divisions. Similar conditions prevailed today, although our track held up well. Anyone who played in the Bridgestone Day deserved to win a trophy. Although there were just over 50 in the Stable-ford event, there were many late scratching after acceptances.... There were seven Visitors, from Glenelg, Port Augusta, Port Neill and Balaklava Golf Clubs. In the Colts Division, Greg Barry took out A Grade with 38 points from Chris Brooks with 37. Rick Kolega won B Grade with 36 from Robert Proude on 35, and Tony Manuel won C Grade with 38 from Bob Ford on 33. The Fillies’ Stakes was won by Helen George with 30 points from Kay Freeth with 29 there was no third dividend. NTP Winners were Dan Townsend, Rick Kolega, Dave Graetz and Haydn Myers, Long Drives went to Matt Parker, Peter Kenny and Lindsay Gordon for the men and Helen George and Deb Sykes for the women. Birdies came from Chris Brooks, Chas Chambers, Adam Sullivan, Dan Townsend, Robert Proude and Dave Graetz and Ducks came from far and wide to enjoy the Club’s new dam, now at its highest level.

In the Men’s Division, the Nett Winners were Chris McGown, Shaun Thomas, Ben White and Brook Wise with 57.125, from Gavin Cheriton, Jayden Lloyd, Aaron Sincock and Matt Mollow with 57.25. The gross winners were Adam Sullivan, Chas Chambers, Tony Dragun and Grant Bamber with 64 from Rick Kolega, Tom Dawson, Andrew Puglisi and Boyd McCurry on 65. The Mixed division Nett winners were Kym, Jake and Sophie Murray and Ben Jaensch with 59.125, from Julie and Bob Baird and Jenny and Ian McDonald on nett 60. The best gross winners were Mary, Laurens and Jason Verhees and Cindy Carr with 70, on a countback from Cathy Leong, Ian Hockridge and Greg and Sue Cotton. The Men’s Long Drives went to Dylan Vonderwall, Tony Dragun and Steve Sykes, while Cindy Carr and Lyn Gould won the Ladies’ section. The Men’s Stableford event was won by Rex Bichard in A Grade with 37 points, from Josh Hausler on 35. Visitor Aaron Burridge won B Grade with 34, on a countback from Brenton George. Garry Downey’s 32 points was enough to secure C Grade from visitor Terry Longbottom on 31. The Ladies played a Canadian Foursomes, with sixteen couples taking part. The winners were the team of Marg Jenkins and Gillian Doyle with 79.25 nett, from Helen George and Elaine Pierik 80.75 and third were Val Sharrad and Jo Higgins with 81.5. Long Drive winners were Jo Higgins and Marg Jenkins and Jude Cain, Carolyn Cocks and Jo Higgins won Nearest the Pins. NTP Winners were Greg Barry, Chas Chambers, visitor Ian Hockridge and John Hussey. Longest drives in all Grades were won by visitors. Bob Baird took out A Grade, Bevan Hill in B Grade and Malcolm Liptrot in C Grade.

The Championship Winner was Gavin Cheriton with 76 from Brett Davies with 77. In B Grade, Jake Murray accounted for Geoff Nottle in a play-off; both had 86. In C Grade, Colin Clark continued his good form by winning with 91 from John Hussey on 92. Men’s Handicap Winners were Josh Hausler with 69 in A Grade from Jason Verhees 72. Visitor Aaron Burridge won B Grade with 73 on a count-back from Rubin Thompson and Bob Sorensen won C Grade with 71 from Maurie Barry on 75. The Veterans’ Winner was Bob Sorensen. NTP Winners were Dylan Vonderwall, Dave Wallace, Garry Downey and Josh Hausler and Craig Reinke, Jake Norris and Garry Downey won their respective Long Drives for the three grades. The Ladies’ EP Open Championship was Cindy Carr with 90, from Cynthia Thompson. Division Two was won by Kaye Jaensch 103, from Adie Fraser 104.
