24.01.2022 The super coach Barry Hancock & super helper Bev Atkins with the next generation of upcoming juniors

24.01.2022 FINALS TIME SEMI FINAL Gladiators 5(24) lost to Dodgers 7 (26)... The semi final between these two top teams was fought right out to the last contest. Nail biting and a lot of passion shown, none more than from gladiators Wayde Heidenreich trying to will himself and his team straight into the grand final. Unfortunately for him it wasn’t enough as dodgers won 4 of 6 5 set matches. Wade Gray won both of his singles over Slavko Kolega and John Folkman in 5 tough sets and after a slow start in a crucial rubber, Dodgers Ralph Sandford overcame a monster challenge from Wayde H winning 5-11, 5-11, 11-7, 11-5, 11-1. Dodgers move straight through to the GF held next week Friday while Gladiators have the double chance and will play..... ELIMINATION FINAL Panthers 6 (18) lost to Croppos 6 (21) Huge match up with a winner stays alive here and what a massive round it was. Panthers vintage Hancock came from 2 sets to 1 down to nab Peter Lee at the line winning 11-4, 6-11, 8-11, 11-5, 11-8. Each of the rounds were split evenly and it came down to sets to determine who faced gladiators next week. In what loomed to be upset of the season Croppos Angelika Sederstrom was 3 points away from cleaning up Lincoln’s best player Joey Harris being 2 sets to love and 8-7 up. This was as close as she got as joeys raw talent finally came alive winning 7-11, 4-11, 11-8, 11-5, 11-8. But Anj had done enough by taking 2 unexpected sets and sending Croppos through to face gladiators next Wednesday. It was great to have a few visitors down to watch the finals with Whyalla’s president Andrew Gray and family socialising with the familiar faces.

24.01.2022 Round 5 Tigers 5 (23) lost to Croppos 7 (23) With only 1 rubber separating the two teams croppos got over the line with Michael Zhao and Angelika Sederstrom taking down Jesse Marcal and Luke McLachlan in 4 sets to get home 9-11, 11-5, 11-5, 11-2.... Tigers Matt Beckmann had a great win over @Peter Lee, 12-10, 11-7, 3-11, 11-9. Panthers 7 (24) def Lions 5 (20) In another tight contest, the match of the round saw panthers vintage Hancock take down the ever improving Daniel Mengis in 5 cracker sets with baz showing all his wisdom to sneak home 11-7, 11-9, 8-11, 9-11, 11-4. Dan teamed up with Linnea Huckel to get revenge over baz who partnered Bev Atkins with Dan and Linnea scoring the win 12-10, 14-12, 7-11, 9-11, 11-6. Dodgers 8 (27) def Gladiators 4 (20) Gladiators John Folkman took 5 sets to sneak the win over Sally Kunze 11-8, 3-11, 11-7, 13-15, 11-8. Pete Forrest also had a great win over the animated Wayde Heidenreich in 5 tough sets, 9-11, 11-8, 11-5, 11-13, 12-10.

22.01.2022 Round 9 Dodgers 9 (30) def Tigers 3 (19) Halfway through this tie, the scores were level at 3 rubbers each with tigers having a 2 set advantage. After that it was 1 way traffic with dodgers winning the last 6 matches. In saying that, there were some absolute belter matches that went the distance. Tigers welcomed back Jamie Crawford for the 2nd time this year and he used his unorthodox but extremely effective style for a great first up win over Pete Forrest 11-4, 15-13, 11-9. ...Tigers Luke McLachlan played out an epic 5 setter as underdog to beat an in form Wade Gray 12-14, 5-11, 11-4, 11-8, 11-9. Luke also had 5 match points which he couldn’t convert against Sally Kunze who won a 5th set 17-15 in a cliffhanger. Croppos 6 (21) lost to Panthers 6 (22) After panthers loss to a count back last week, they were again living life on the edge winning by 1 solitary set. Every round of matches were split and it basically came down to who wanted it more. The match of the tie came down to the last doubles of the night with Croppos Russell Fordham and Angelika Sederstrom scraping home against William Broughton and Joey Harris 9-11, 11-3, 6-11, 11-9, 11-6. Lions 4 (21) lost to Gladiators 8 (26) On paper, these two teams matched up evenly and after the first 2 round the scores were locked at 3 wins each. It was smooth sailing for gladiators after this point with the team winning 5 of the next 6 matches to close out the night. Lions Daniel Mengis and gladiators Lance Barnett played out an epic 5 setter with lance scraping home 11-9, 13-11, 9-11, 5-11, 11-7. And in the battle of the Kolega’s it was gladiators Slavko who had to walk home after he beat the other half Lesley Kolega 13-11, 10-12, 11-8, 11-9.

21.01.2022 Round 7 Tigers 8 (29) def Lions 4 (14) With Lions Daniel Mengis missing, it was always going to be tough for them to challenge. His replacement Pauline Gill made her PLTTA debut and battled on to enjoy her first night in competition. Notable match of the contest saw Lesley Kolega pull out some big time plays to down Jesse Marcal in 4 sets 11-9, 11-8, 6-11, 12-10.... Dodgers 7 (27) def Croppos 5 (24) Massive contest which was 5 rubbers each heading into the final 2 doubles saw the dodgers pairings of Ralph Sandford and Peter Forrest come from a set down to defeat Peter Lee and Gary Weetra, and dodgers Darren Atkins with Sally Kunze to defeat Michael Zhao and Fredrick Ettridge after also losing the first set to seal the night. The contest saw a high quality match between Croppos Michael and Darren with Michael taking the match with his penhold grip in 5 sets, 9-11, 11-6, 9-11, 11-5, 11-8. Panthers 6 (21) lost Gladiators 6 (22) The closest contest of the night separated by a bees whisker was ultimately decided by an upset 1 set won by Slavko Kolega when he pinched an unlikely set over dynamite prodigy Joey Harris 12-10 in the first round of singles. Joey put his foot down after that to win comfortably in 4 but it was a crucial set it turned out to be! Gladiators Wayde Heidenreich was super excited throwing fist pumps around when he took down panthers Jack Barnett in 5 tough sets finally getting the better of him 6-11, 11-3 11-3, 7-11, 11-8.

19.01.2022 SEMI FINAL Croppos 5 (24) lost to Gladiators 7(28) Massive carrot at the end of this tie with the winner into the big dance and the loser done and dusted. The priest John Folkmann scraped home for gladiators over Angelika Sederstrom in 5 tight ones 20-18, 6-11, 11-8, 8-11, 11-8. Croppos Peter Lee took down a spirited Wayde Heidenreich 11-5, 6-11, 12-10, 12-10 to level the first round 2 wins a piece.... Angelika then teamed up with Garry Weetra who lost another close one to Slav Kolega and Wayde. 11-9, 10-12, 7-11, 11-6, 8-11 but the other double kept the tie close going into the last round of singles 3-3 Garry did his team proud by overcoming Wayde in 5 tough finals type sets with a lot of ‘come ons’ coming from both sides. Garry home 11-9, 6-11, 8-11, 11-9, 11-4, but from there it was Lance Barnett, Slav and John winning their singles matches to finish off what was a very competitive tie. Michael Zhao had the chance to level things against John but it wasn’t to be with John somehow scraping home in another finals thriller 8-11, 11-9, 9-11, 11-8, 11-9. The final doubles were formalities with matches being split both in straight sets and this saw Gladiators through to the final. Gladiators have won the right to play Dodgers in the grand final played on Friday this week 16th oct and presentations will be held straight after the final match. Supper will follow and for those who are playing, please bring a plate each for the kitchen crew to serve up after the formalities have finished. Dodgers v Gladiators grand final 2020

15.01.2022 2020 GRAND FINAL - 16th OCT Gladiators 5 (20) lost to Dodgers 7 (21) With a major sporting event happening on the tv, an even bigger one was happening at the PLTTA with the grand final between the top two teams fighting it out for the covid restricted 2020 premiership.... Wade Gray had shirts made for his team of 4 specifically for the grand final and it seemed to pay off with his dodgers team closing it out late in the last round. The first 3 rounds were split evenly at 2-2, then 1-1, and again 2-2 leading into the last doubles. The noticeable match of the 3 blocks of games was between rivals Ralph Sandford and Wayde Heidenreich with Ralph once again dominant over his opponent in another dogged 5 set tussle. The last doubles were to decide the outcome of the season and with dodgers Wade and Sally cleaning up a hapless John and Slav, it was up to Lance Barnett and Wayde to keep the dream alive for the gladiators side so desperate for premiership success. They lost the first set but regrouped to win the next two needing just 1 more set to complete a premiership victory but the never say die attitude from Ralph and Pete Forrest saw them take set 4 heading into the final set of the year. In what was a see-sawing battle with many lead changes, it was Ralph and Pete who were the heroes for dodgers withstanding the challenge and holding on to win the PREMIERSHIP with an EDGE and scraping home 11-7, 6-11, 8-11, 11-4, 12-10 and with that edge the champagne was flowing for the dodgers side in their new premiership shirts. Congratulations to Dodgers on this shortened season and we hope to see many more players return to a full season next year!! The AGM will be held on Monday 26th with all positions open, everyone who would like to attend is more than welcome. Cheers Dan

13.01.2022 Round 10 - final round Panthers 7 (22) def Lions 5 (18) With so much on the line and 3 teams trying to sew up the last 2 finals spot, it was Panthers who scraped over the line against a gallant Lions. Some massive games but none as big as Daniel Mengis taking down club legend Barry Hancock 9-11, 11-5, 11-7, 11-9. Barry got his revenge in the doubles teaming up with a young James Siviour on debut leading him to victory over Dan and Linnea Huckel 6-11, 12-14, 11-7, 11-8, 11-9. ... Gladiators 5 (21) lost to Dodgers 7 (27) Before the start of this round, a confident Wayde Heidenreich for gladiators was happy with 3 fill ins his team were using claiming the replacements were better than his actual team. Dodgers got hold of this and took it right up to Wayde and his team. Dodgers Ralph Sandford won all 4 of his games and in a clash of the Tasmans v Waybacks rivalry, it was Pete Forrest coming from 2 sets down to beat Wayde in 5 tough sets 9-11, 11-13, 12-10, 11-5, 11-9 Tigers 5 (18) lost to Croppos 7(24) With both teams fighting for a finals spot it was win and you’re in or lose and you’re out. One massive game stood out with tigers Luke McLachlan taking down Angelika Sederstrom in 5 massive sets 14-12, 6-11, 11-9, 9-11, 11-9. It was a massive contest and there were so many twists and turns which could have went any way. With finals beginning next week, it’s the business time of this weird season. Good luck to the teams involved. Was great to see Alex Hale out there again socialising, always a popular figure in the club.

13.01.2022 Big thanks to the few who came to help do some yard work in the average weather today.

08.01.2022 Round 8 Gladiators 8 (27) def Tigers 4 (19) Gladiators put their foot down in the run to the finals winning 6 of the 8 singles and splitting the 4 doubles. Tigers Matt Beckmann and Evan Siviour were the only 2 to win a singles match, both over Wayde Heidenreich. The priest John Folkman was the standout winning all 4 of his matches for Gladiators.... Panthers 6 (18) lost to Dodgers 6 (18) Panthers 312 pts / Dodgers 314 pts In an unbelievable count back, scores were locked and for the second time in PLTTA history, a countback was needed with dodgers holding on. Each round was split evenly and what was even more uncanny was every match was won in straight sets. Panthers young Joey Harris was easily the best winning all 4 of his matches but he needed to concede just 3 less points for his side to win. Lions 3 (13) lost to Croppos 9 (29) The singles were reasonably close but the doubles are what let the lions down losing all 4 on offer. The closest match in this tie was with Michael Zhao taking down young prodigy Nathan Fong 16-14, 11-6, 13-15, 4-11, 11-7. Daniel Mengis won 2 of lions 3 rubbers getting wins over Gary Weetra and Peter Lee.

08.01.2022 Dodgers are the 2020 premiers!!

05.01.2022 Round 6 Croppos 7 (25) def Gladiators 5 (21) A great contest which came down to the last 2 doubles of the night is all that decided this contest. Croppos Angelika Sederstrom dug super deep to hold her composure and take the win over Gladiators John Folkman 11-5, 11-3, 7-11, 7-11, 11-9. Gladiators Slavko Kolega took his own 5 set win over Russell Fordham 8-11, 11-8, 11-8, 10-12, 11-7. ... Tigers 8 (25) def Panthers 4 (19) An under strengthed panthers side without their star player Joey Harris were always going to struggle on paper but replacement Vicki Mundy proved to hold her own in her first single beating Luke McLachlan in 4 sets. Panthers Baz Hancock also showed his dominance winning both his singles over Matt Beckmann and Evan Siviour only for Evan and Matt to team up in the doubles to take down Barry and his partner Jack Barnett 11-7, 11-6, 9-11, 11-9. Lions 6 (26) lost to Dodgers 6 (27) In the tightest of contests which literally couldn't have been any closer barring a draw, It was dodgers who needed to win both doubles in the final round to have any chance of sneaking home, and thats exactly what they did winning both in 5 marathon sets. Dodgers Ralph Sandford and Pete Forrest found a bit late on in the 5th to close out the contest 11-9 over a determined pair in Daniel Mengis and Linnea Huckel. Then underdogs Wade Gray paired Sally Kunze to complete the massive team comeback scalping Nathan Fong and Fredrick Ettridge 11-8, 8-11, 11-13, 11-3, 11-6. 7 of the 12 rubbers between these two sides went the 5 set distance and it was just a massive contest between these two teams!

04.01.2022 Round 4 Panthers 6 (22) def Croppos 6 (19) In the tightest contest of the night, panthers scraped over the line with Joey Harris and William Broughton winning the decider in 4 sets over Michael Zhang and Angelika Sederstrom 11-9, 9-11, 11-3, 11-7 to seal the night.... Lions 5 (19) lost to Gladiators 7 (26) I’m another tight contest, the draw came down to the doubles where it was gladiators who came through with the goods winning both contests to seal the night. However match of the round was between the two Kolegas with Slav narrowly edging out a determined Lesley 11-9, 12-10, 12-14, 11-5. Tigers 4 (18) lost to Dodgers 8 (29) At the halfway point of this draw it was 3 runners a piece, but after that it was 1 way traffic. Wade Gray took care of business beating Jesse Marcal in straight sets and secretary Sally Kunze narrowly beat Luke McLachlan 5-11, 11-5, 11-5, 6-11, 11-6.
