25.01.2022 Orthodontics usually requires patients to have their fingers in their mouths throughout the day - which will require good hand washing, before AND after! For patients with removable appliances (clear aligners, retainers, etc) or in braces (wearing elastics/rubber bands, using dental wax, flossing and brushing during the day, etc)... Don’t forget to wash your hands thoroughly! If you are out in public and soap and water isn’t easily accessible, perhaps carry a bottle of hand sanitiser with you for convenience? We have mini Plunkett Ortho hand sanitisers here to give to patients, so ask us at your next visit if you would like one!

20.01.2022 If you have started any sort of treatment with us, you would have received a showbag full of various goodies to help you take care of your teeth and appliances - and also featuring some of our Plunkett merchandise! If anyone would like any of these goodies pictured here, let us know at your next appointment.

18.01.2022 COVID UPDATE: As you may or may not be aware, news has just broken that Melbourne is going back into another lockdown. Following the Victorian Governments recent announcement that we are entering a 7-day circuit breaker lockdown as of 11:59pm tonight, our phones and emails are already experiencing a high volume of enquires! ... As with previous lockdowns, we will await further information from the Australian Dental Association as to how exactly this affects us. Please do not phone us, we will contact (via text message) any patients who’s appointments this affects as soon as we know more. As always, thank you for your patience and understanding. Stay safe. . . . . . Photo credit: our Clinic Coordinator Sarah’s brother, By Marcus.G

18.01.2022 Let’s talk INFECTION CONTROL! As always, infection control remains a very important part of our day... This is a photo we shared on our Facebook and Instagram back in July. Pictured here is just SOME of what we use to keep ourselves and the practice clean and safe. These products are used in all areas of the building, in between each and every patient, and all throughout the day! We always maintain excellent hand hygiene and use of correct PPE. We use disposable plasti...c barriers over our equipment and use many single use products, all of which are disposed of after each patient. We have a three step cleaning/sterilisation process for our instruments which involves: manual cleaning by hand, followed by an ultrasonic bath, followed by sterilisation in our autoclave. An autoclave is a machine that uses high pressure and high temperature steam (reaching over 130 degrees!) to kill microorganisms such as bacteria, viruses, fungus and spores. We also thoroughly and continuously disinfect all surfaces between every patient including benches, chairs, patient glasses, hand mirrors, sinks, door handles, waiting room, etc. One of our most commonly used products is a hospital grade disinfectant called ‘Viraclean’. If anyone was interested, below are a couple of links about the product: https://www.whiteley.com.au/viraclean https://www.ada.org.au//Late/COVID-19-killing-disinfectant

11.01.2022 As we are reopening next week and welcoming patients back in to practice, here is a reminder of how to enter and how our thermal scanner works. Simply stand in front of it to have your temperature checked - it works while wearing a face covering, so you do not need to remove your mask.

06.01.2022 A rainbow over the practice to start the day... Happy Monday everyone!

05.01.2022 Did you know we are accredited? That means, we have undertaken what’s known as ‘practice accreditation’ - a process to meet a strict set of standards, which commits us to continuously assessing and improving our procedures, for the safety and quality of care that we provide to our patients. In a private practice like ours, it is a voluntary process. Therefore we are not necessarily required to undergo accreditation, however we elected to. It involves a huge amount of work whi...ch is updated every 2 years, but it is all in the name of practice improvement, and an achievement we are proud of. In dentistry, practices must meet six of the National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards. Once the practice has completed all the required documentation, they are assessed by an independent accreditation agency who awards the accreditation... hence this certificate! See more

04.01.2022 Happy Mother’s Day, to all the Mums! New Mums, soon-to-be Mums, step Mums, foster Mums, single Mums, mother figures, those who have lost their dear Mum’s... Thinking of you all. You are all wonderful!

02.01.2022 An explanation or reminder as to WHY we are closed, and some tips on handling any issues you may have at home... While Melbourne is in stage 4 lock down, dental practices are currently operating under level 3 restrictions. The State Government has a provision that only allows us to see patients in defined emergency situations which are: Significant or severe oral pain Infection... Limited function A physically traumatic event yielding the above This unfortunately means deferring all orthodontic treatment, and is out of our control. However, we will still be here for you! Please email us with any questions or issues: [email protected] What constitutes as a true orthodontic emergency will be evaluated by our orthodontists, in line with the strict regulatory guidelines. For more information, we have a ‘Covid-19’ and a ‘Braces’ highlights reel on Instagram with how to manage potential orthodontic issues during our closure. We will be adding more to this over the days and weeks. Alternatively, there are a couple of links below with some more information. We all have our own crucial role to play in helping to prevent further transmission of COVID-19 in the community, and stopping the spread of the virus to protect each other. We sincerely appreciate everyone’s patience and support during this time, and thank you for your continued understanding and cooperation. https://orthodonticsaustralia.org.au/coronavirus-update-sh/ http://www.plunkettorthodontics.com.au/emergency-care
