20.01.2022 Ports of Auckland’s new contemporary art platform, The Lightship, is live on Auckland’s waterfront and making a dramatic statement in the city. The Lightship is a 110-metre long, 16 metre high light wall that wraps around the western and southern façade of the Ports of Auckland’s new car handling facility designed by Plus as part of the Port’s 30 year plan. Always looking for the unique opportunities in every project, and supported by a great client Ports of Auckland, the d...esign team envisioned the façade as a blank canvas to be painted by nature and local and international contributors. The result is a unique, statement building which is both functional and aesthetically pleasing, giving back to Auckland waterfront. The clever design of the car handling facility delivers a compact building, increasing car capacity, reducing the amount of space taken up by imported vehicles on the harbour by stacking the vehicles vertically. As well as creating a platform to celebrate local artists and the creative community, the facility features the world’s largest soil-based vertical garden on its southern wall. The first project of its kind delivered by Plus in New Zealand, we’re looking forward to sharing more about this project over the next few weeks. 16.01.2022 We have been finding out what the community in Bayswater, WA want in their city. Plus Architecture supported Future Bayswater's (FuBa) free community event by creating an interactive survey that is being used to understand the needs and desires of local people and how it will shape a future vision for development in the area. It's been great working with FuBa for the past two years, donating our time to support their vision for development shaped by community.... #community #fuba #designwa

16.01.2022 Plus recently took part in the World Architecture Festival’s ‘Isolation Transformed’ competition. The competition invited architects, designers, and engineers to suggest ideas, big and small, which consider how we could mitigate the effects of future pandemics through design. It was a great chance to get our thinking caps on and produce some out-of-the-box designs. Our final design is 'Check Mate' - a designed solution to enable a safe way to check on, and interact, with a mate during a period of required isolation, transforming isolation for the better, both physically and mentally.

08.01.2022 Plus Architecture Associate Piers Bowman took to the stage earlier this week for the Construction Marketing Services Design Experience Series in New Zealand to discuss how design has, and will, affect post pandemic decisions and how Plus Architecture are looking to pause and reflect on the opportunities presented and rise to this new challenge. Design is just one of the many tools we have to respond to a changing world. I believe it is in the details, with incremental changes, not fundamental change, that we can make the biggest difference
