11.01.2022 We need your help! Since the 1st August, 24 hour gyms in NSW have been unable to operate 24/7 due to the need to have a ‘Covid Marshal’ present at all times of operating. Having a Covid Marshal in our gym for the hours we are currently operating alone has already doubled our wage costs. If we were to staff our gym 24 hours a day, 7 days a week we would be broke with this not only affecting us and our staff but also our members who rely on us to keep physically and mentally f...it and healthy. Despite consistent lobbying as an industry we have been provided with no clear indication of when this restriction will end so we are asking for your help to ensure all 24 hour gyms, their members and their staff do not get forgotten by the NSW Government. Please also keep in mind that recent Fitness Australia research showed that there were more than 7.31 million check-ins across 546 gyms in the first 8 weeks after we re-opened in NSW with zero cases of reported transmission. The only restriction is that there cannot be more than 20 people in the gym outside of our staffed hours. As this rarely, if ever happens then we do not see this impacting on us!
