24.01.2022 REPAT VETERANS WELLBEING CENTRE UPDATE. On Friday 31 July, we received an email from the Director of Health Services Programs in SA Health asking if we are interested in being Anchor Tenants in the new Veteran Wellbeing Centre in the Repat Health Precinct. If we are interested, we have to reply by 28 August 2020. We have already advised SA Health we are interested and will reply with the information requested. Anchor tenants at the Centre is a strategy to draw regular visitor...s, and create a critical threshold of veterans and their families utilising the Centre and with the Plympton Veterans Centre being prepared to staff our Advocacy Centre in the Veteran Wellbeing Centre with volunteer Advocates and ASOs for 5 hours a day, 5 days a week, we believe we can offer this. Another development in the establishment of the Veteran Wellbeing Centre at the Repat has been the formation of the Veteran Wellbeing Centre Steering Committee to provide governance and direction over the building and operation of the Centre. The Committee comprises a number of government members from SA Health and Veterans SA, an Open Arms member, an ESO representative and the CEO of RSL SA. Bill Hignett who is our Admin Manager is also on the Committee. The Chair s Geoff Tattersall who is also the Chair of the Veterans Health Advisory Council. The Steering Committee held its first meeting on 16 July 2020 and endorsed the Wellbeing Concept and Fit Out Plan and noted that a contractor had been appointed and will commence work on the plan this month. The other major item on the agenda was the development of the Operational Service Model for the Centre which has been sent out to ESOs for information and consultation. This 25 page document was sent out by email on 31 July 2020. The next meeting of the Steering Committee is proposed for 20 August 2020.

24.01.2022 PVC hosted a backbrief and information session to Advocates and ASOs intending to volunteer at the Repat Community of Practice. We will be implementing several new services and open Monday to Friday at the Repat so we intend to trial some of these services and extended days/hours of operation at PVC in the near future. Watch this space.

23.01.2022 Successful KI Veterans Outreach, presentation at the RSL and several home visits were well received.

20.01.2022 Good Afternoon Senator Lambie Thank you for your email seeking information on the Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) health care arrangements during the COVID-19 pandemic. On 13 March 2020, the Australian Government announced that medically vulnerable people, including eligible members of the veteran community, were able to access some services provided by doctors, nurses, and mental health professionals via telephone and videoconferencing capability. This included tel...ehealth services provided to vulnerable clients by psychologists such as those employed by VHA. Updated fee schedules for clinical psychologists, psychologists, mental health occupational therapists and mental health social workers are available on DVAs fee schedules page As you are aware, on 29 March 2020 the Federal Government announced further changes to primary and allied health care arrangements in response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. As of 1 April 2020, all DVA clients are now eligible to receive telehealth consultations for services provided by medical and allied health practitioners. Telehealth consultations may take the form of video conferencing using technologies such as Skype or by telephone where video conferencing is not available. These new telehealth items have been provided on a temporary basis from 1 April until 30 September 2020. Therefore, VHA can now deliver some physiotherapy and exercise physiology services by telehealth. Based on clinical advice, group sessions, aquatic sessions, and lymphoedema treatment cannot be provided by telehealth. It is anticipated that updated allied health fee schedules will be available on the DVA fee schedules page by close of business today. Please note that treatment cycle arrangements continue to apply for DVA clients seeking to access allied health services. Where required, clients may access a GP via a telehealth consultation for a referral or re-referral for clinically required allied health treatment. The DVA website now has a dedicated COVID-19 information page for healthcare providers. https://www.dva.gov.au//covid-19-information-healthcare-pr and DVA encourages all healthcare providers to check the webpage regularly for updates as new arrangements come into place. As always DVA appreciates the commitment shown by our many allied health providers in continuing to provide essential services to our DVA clients. Regards Liz Cosson AM CSC Secretary Department of Veterans Affairs E: [email protected] For what they have done, this we will do.

18.01.2022 Thanks to the Advocates from our Centre and the Limestone Services Hub who gave presentations last week at the Millicent, Mt Gambier, Penola and Plympton Glenelg RSLs as part of Veterans Health Week. Laurie Mann did a magnificent job organising the events in the South East. On Friday night Keith Harrison, the immediate past president of the Plympton Glenelg RSL Presented Ruddy with his Australia Day Medallion in recognition of his outstanding contribution to advocacy services and mentoring advocates in South Australia. Well done Ruddy and well deserved.

18.01.2022 Disappointed to hear the Repat Wellbeing Centres official opening has been pushed back to around ANZAC Day 2021. We were advised at our last meeting in 2019 we would be up and running at the Repat in July 2020 with an official opening in November 2019. Hopefully via our ESO consortium we can push back to get in earlier as we are training additional trainees and we have run out of room at PVC. Pictures of proposed Repat Town Square showing how the SPF hall fits into the overall Veterans space along with Veterans Centre.

17.01.2022 PVC will continue to operate using the RSL space to comply with Social Distancing requirements. Opening hours Tuesday to Thursday 1000-1500. The best way to contact us is via email: [email protected]

16.01.2022 On Sunday 25 October, staff from the Plympton Veterans Centre and our Limestone Coast Office in Mt Gambier travelled to Millicent to support the program jointly organised by our Mt Gambier Office and the Millicent RSL Sub Branch as part of Veterans Health Week. The program included sessions on wellbeing, mental health, aged care and compensation entitlements. A big thank you to Chris Mathias President of the Millicent RSL Sub branch for his warm welcome, hospitality and encouragement to ensure a number of veterans and their partners from Millicent were present. Thanks to Tich Tyson, Bill Hignett and Jim Leslie who travelled from Adelaide to present at the event and Laurie Mann & Mark Patton from our Mt Gambier Office who gave up their Sunday to also be present and assist veterans.

16.01.2022 We are closed from 20 Dec 19 and reopen 14 Jan 20. PVC staff will be taking a well earned break over the Christmas / New Year period. For any crisis support and counselling, Open Arms can be reached 24 hours a day across Australia. Phone 1800 011 046 or visit www.openarms.gov.au

16.01.2022 PVC has been getting a lot inquiries from clients as to why DVA is taking so long to process their claims, permanent Impairment assessments etc etc. We have been advised by senior DVA staff that due to the success of MyService Claims, the Veterans Covenant Program, 30% of DVA staff assisting with Bushfire recovery and most importantly the high turn over rate of staff, DVA are unable to meet their usual timelines. Examples include taking around 6 months from claim lodgement fo...r a delegate to be assigned to start the process and for Permanent Impairment Assessment to be assigned the wait is even longer. If your condition or financial position needs urgent attention of course we can contact DVA on your behalf to request your situation be dealt with ASAP. The Bottom line is don't shoot the messenger, or maybe contacting your local member for additional DVA staff. See more

15.01.2022 I am writing to you to inform you of interim changes to support, and contact arrangements for veterans and their families due to COVID-19. DVAs Veteran Access Network (VAN) is one of our most important access points for our clients, and while we need to look at temporarily suspending our face-to-face office locations, we continue to provide enhanced online and telephone support to our veteran community and their families. Veterans will have access to the services they need a...nd rely on from DVA. The temporary shift in service delivery, to an online and telephone based approach, aligns with social distancing requirements due to COVID-19. DVAs number one priority will remain the health and wellbeing of the Australian veteran community including, focussing our efforts on supporting essential services for veterans and their families. DVA services can be accessed online through the DVA website and MyService or telephone on 1800 555 254. Skilled DVA general enquiry staff will work through your enquiry, and veterans with more complex needs will have the option to pre-book a telephone appointment with a VAN officer. Interviews between veterans and VAN officers will be conducted by telephone in the first instance. For the safety of both the veteran community and staff, DVA staff face-to-face service delivery at VAN offices, shopfronts and Services Australia locations have been temporarily suspended. Service delivery will not be impacted, just provided differently. This is a short-term measure until the current COVID-19 situation eases and face-to-face service delivery can return to normal. Members of the veteran community who require assistance should access MyService, lodge an online enquiry or call 1800 555 254. Kind regards Janice Silby Assistant Secretary, Income Support Processing Branch Deputy Commissioner SA Department of Veterans Affairs

12.01.2022 COVID-19 UPDATE The Plympton Veterans Centre is adapting to the way we can offer a service to our clients, veterans and their families whilst at the same time being mindful of the fast moving government measures relating to COVID-19. Our key priorities are the health of our staff who are all volunteers and our clients while at the same time maintaining the quality of our service to veterans and their families. Our Advocates have secure remote access to our client files and ca...n continue to work productively from home. Our office is closed for face to face interviews except in exceptional circumstances but appointments can be conducted over the phone or Facebook Messenger. All of our Advocates have access to their emails and will monitor them on their rostered duty day for the Plympton Veterans Centre. 04.01.2022 Update 7 Jan 20: PVC donated another $500 to Gareths Tree Crew to enable them to pay for maintenance and consumables for their chainsaws and they are back on KI assisting the CFS. Much Respect to all fighting the fires. Original Post: Finally managed to catch up with Gareth Desmond at Villis to present him with a $300 fuel voucher. He has just returned from fighting the KI fires and showed me some video footage of his crew pre and post being involved in a burn over. They lost most of their specialty gear and were lucky to get out alive. Gareth was very appreciative of the donation, however needs to replace specialty breathing apparatus and gear before setting off on future fire fighting efforts.

04.01.2022 New Nominal Roll Website Dear ESORT Members You may recall that at our last meeting on 27 February 2020, Deputy Secretary Charles McHardie announced the consolidation of the Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) nominal roll websites into a new, single access portal at http://nominal-rolls.dva.gov.au/.... The new nominal rolls website was implemented on 5 March 2020. It continues to provide information on the service history of members of the Australian Defence Force (ADF) who served during World War II, the Korean War and Vietnam War, consolidated in a single location. The new website has an improved look and feel and a much improved search functionality that we know you will appreciate. We are writing to agencies and organisations who support veterans and their families to let you know about the new website and to support you in case you get any queries from users. To help make the transition to the new website seamless and easy for veterans and their families to use, users accessing previous websites are being automatically redirected to the new site. While we have not experienced any issues to date, there may be isolated instances where redirection does not occur as expected. In the event you are contacted to assist with technical difficulties, we would appreciate you suggesting to the user they update any saved links to the previous nominal rolls websites to the new address. Users may have these stored as bookmarks or as favourites in their web browser. If additional assistance is required, please do not hesitate to refer veterans and their families to the DVA Nominal Rolls Team using [email protected], telephone 1300 780 133, or the Director Nominal Rolls GPO Box 9998, Brisbane, QLD, 4001. Thank you for your ongoing commitment to acknowledging and commemorating the service and sacrifice of Australias veteran community.
