21.01.2022 Dogs arrived in Australia between 1,000 and 800 years ago. It has long been known that dogs are our best friends. Now in its 16th year, today August 26 is the day that the world celebrates a day dedicated to our canine companions. Its purpose is to highlight the number of rescue dogs in need of a forever home, whilst also recognising the love dogs bring into our lives and homes and the great work they do on farm properties and also for the emergency and security services and ...those of us living with disabilities. What can we do to do our little bit today? Give your dog a cuddle and tell them you love them! Go for a walk in a new place. Most dogs love exploring new and interesting places with their best friend. Host a playdate. Does your dog have another furry best friend? Bake some dog friendly treats. Donate to your local shelter. Also, to celebrate today we have a short video of just some of the wonderful puppies that have progressed through our pre-schools in the past few months, bringing us and their owners joy during these uncertain times in the world. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HDT2qoyz--w&feature=youtu.be

21.01.2022 Fiddich came in to see us for desexing recently and he was our favourite patient of the day. Not that we have such a thing, really.... He wanted lots of cuddles and love. Don't we all have days where we want just the same??

20.01.2022 We are currently experiencing a suburb wide power outage expected for the next couple of hours. We are still open but if you need to reach us, please contact us via Facebook, email or call our colleagues at the Marion Animal Hospital on 8277 3733.

19.01.2022 Spring has sprung.. Time to really cut that grass! The changing of the season brings us a rise in temperatures and long dry spells. However, this could lead to issues in the coming few weeks and months and if you have grass to mow or tend to it is vital that you do so to protect the health and wellbeing of your pets. We are all aware that snakes like to seek out the cooler long grass. However, with grass left untended as the weather warms the grass seeds are a potential ...veterinary emergency for both dogs, cats and many other pets as they can easily penetrate the skin and eyes and could lead to painful infection. So, keep your grass areas regularly treated and mowed as short as possible!

19.01.2022 This is the lovely Sampson! He is a 12 year old Labrador who presented to us at the end of October with ongoing diarrhoea. We tried medical management which did not fix the problem, so Dr Alex performed an abdominal ultrasound which showed Sampson to have a mass on his spleen. Dr Alex recommended referral to our Southern Animal Hospital for advanced imaging with a CT scan to determine if the mass had spread to other organs. Thankfully, the CT showed the mass was only affectin...g his spleen and he had surgery at our clinic to have his spleen removed on Tuesday. This is Sampson today just 3 days post surgery for day boarding! We are pleased to say he has had a remarkable recovery so soon after his procedure and it is great to see him so bright and comfortable! See more

16.01.2022 Southern Vet Group were one of the first in South Australia to install a CT scanner. There is a good reason it looks just the same as one you may find in a ‘human’ hospital, it is because it is! Computed Tomography Scans are used for diagnosing a variety of health concerns for your pet. Patients from our veterinary clinics can be transferred or referred within our own network. However, we also welcome referrals from our friends and colleagues across the veterinary system, p...articularly our neighbouring practices in the southern suburbs of Adelaide, to ease the need for longer trips for owners and pets with a fast, friendly, and professional service. Please call Southern Animal Hospital during opening hours on 8382 3666 for further details. Check out our video featuring Bentley and his visit to the clinic, the amazing images the scanner produces and how a diagnosis can be made.

07.01.2022 Ollie was orphaned as a joey. Thankfully was nurtured and raised by a fantastic carer.
