The outside is perfectly attuned to its surroundings, using local building techniques and a cleverly detailed roof section. Minimal perfection! 14.01.2022 Looking back at the Ikebana workshop we held in our studio a few years back with Ikebana master Shoso Shimbo. It was so interesting to explore this ancient craft and we organised it for the day before Mother’s Day so participants could gift their creations to their mums!

12.01.2022 On the Plyroom Journal: Away with Plyroom: The Bootmaker’s House, Nannup, WA Located on the Blackwood River, this old milling town is surrounded by forests of Jarrah and Marri trees. Artist Zoe Martyn bought and restored The Bootmaker's House, which originally housed the local bootmaker, a man called J Pickering. She has created a thoughtful space which mirrors the colours of the surrounding landscape. Dotted with family artefacts and mementos, the space invites gathering wit...h family or friends for a shared meal or cozying up with a book by the fire. ‘My favourite space in the house is probably the kitchen. I love sitting in that booth seat while somebody is cooking and being able to chat. It was a difficult space to design because there are four doors. Every wall has a door coming into it. Plus it has the big old Metters stove, right smack bang in the middle. Yes, it was a really tricky space to design, but it's actually become one of my favourites and I think the one that most people congregate in. 06.01.2022 Rediscovering the timeless Life House by @johnpawson Located in the remote rolling Welsh hills, near the town of Llanbister, it is a treatise on calm and restful space. Pawson designed the house in collaboration with @theschooloflifelondon as a part of their Living Architecture project. The minimalist interior was influenced by the architecture of Benedictine monks and Japanese design.... The design is simple and considered, right down to every little detail. A restrained palette of crafted materials includes handmade Dutch bricks which define the sprawling form in black against the landscape outside and provide a restful retreat in pale grey to the interior. In the words of The School of Life: ‘‘We believe that architecture has a fundamental role to play in mental health and wellbeing.
