25.01.2022 CROYDON STATION MULTI STOREY CAR PARK TRAVELLING BY TRAIN AND PARKING YOUR CAR WILL NO LONGER BE A HEADACHE! How many times have you gone to catch the train and the car park is full?... Well problem solved! Luckily with help from the Federal Government we have secured 487 free car spaces at Croydon Station which will constructed over the existing Council carpark on Devon St. It will be a multi-story car park and will include a commercial tenancy on the ground floor. The new carpark will also improve parking and access for people with a disability. I have thoroughly enjoyed being a part of the consultation process with politicians, residents, shop owners and the community regarding the design and planning stages of the new car park. It is a much-needed asset for the Maroondah community and will encourage greater use of public transport. It will also free up car spaces for customers of local traders.
23.01.2022 On Saturday, I had the pleasure of watching the South Croydon Football Club Seniors for their 1st game of the season and after this match the South Croydon Women's Team played against Vermont ......under the new lights at Cheong Park! and to top this off the unveiling of their Premiership flag for 2019.
22.01.2022 PROPOSED DEVELOPMENT JASMINE RD (IRABINA AUTISM SERVICES SITE) - TOWN PLANNING ISSUES Residents have informed me of their concerns regarding a new childcare centre and potential 37 unit high-density housing development on the previously occupied Irabina Autism Services site. This proposed development has the possibility to increase traffic on surrounding roads including impacting the already extremely busy intersection at the corner of Tintern Avenue and Bayswater Roads.... Any development proposed must consider the impact of traffic on our local streets. If you have concerns about this development, I want to hear from you. If elected, I will advocate on your behalf to ensure that any development proposed considers the environmental and physical impact of the area and considers resident’s concerns.
21.01.2022 BENSON OVAL PAVILION - EASTFIELD PARK AN UPGRADE TO THE 21ST CENTURY Since being elected to Council I have lobbied and advocated for upgrades to this pavilion which was seriously outdated. The good news is Benson Oval Sporting Pavilion in Eastfield Park, Croydon, will now have a significant upgrade as part of a joint investment between the Victorian and Australian Governments.... The upgrade of Benson Oval Pavilion will help accommodate the growing memberships at Eastfield Cricket Club and South Croydon Junior Football Club and the new facilities will also include female friendly change rooms and bathrooms, a primary driver behind the upgrade. I was pleased to be a part of the consultation with both Clubs and residents about the design and needs of the pavilion. This is part of a longer-term plan for Eastfield Park and I want to ensure we get the balance right between passive and active recreation that also considers our natural environment.
19.01.2022 DON'T FORGET TO VOTE!! VOTE 1 PAUL MACDONALD
17.01.2022 Throw back Tuesday....look closely at this photo...in the background Cheong Park with no club rooms only the basketball stadium. The boy on the bike is a friend of mine..circa mid 60's
16.01.2022 Let's see things through. If re-elected as your Councillor, I'm looking forward to seeing these initiatives through and more! VOTE 1 PAUL MACDONALD- Let's see things through.
16.01.2022 I had the pleasure and privilege, along with fellow Councillors, laying the Maroondah City Council wreath on Anzac Day at the Croydon War Memorial.
14.01.2022 CAR PARKING AND ACCESS FOR PEOPLE WITH A DISABILITY AND MORE CAR SPACES AT EASTFIELD SHOPPING CENTRE SOUTH CROYDON I shop locally in South Croydon and could see the need for additional car parking and spaces for people to park their cars. I also saw the need for improved access for people with disabilities. I supported residents and shop owners with the much-needed construction of a new carpark at the southern end of the mall.... Additionally, I oversaw plans and funding for an upgrade to the existing ramp and inclusion of new disabled car spaces out the front of the Medical Centre. This is a fantastic result for residents and shop owners.
14.01.2022 GLEN PARK PLAY GROUND I was very proud to be involved in the design and development of the Glen Park Play Space in Bayswater North. Bayswater North is a small pocket within Maroondah Council that is often a forgotten area. So, along with the Glen Park Oaks Community Garden, the playground offers local residents and the wider community a place to relax, play and connect with each other.
12.01.2022 #throwbackthursday South Croydon Football Club's 1st Premiership, under 15's, Grand Final played on the 22 August 1970 award winners presentation day - who are they?
12.01.2022 LET'S GET THE BALANCE RIGHT AT EASTFIELD PARK I want to continue to work with residents and user groups to ensure we get a balanced outcome for our wonderful park and ensure our park is not overdeveloped. Eastfield Park currently has a mix of user groups that make great use of our wonderful park. I’ve worked hard to ensure a balanced approach to any improvements to the park. I am opposed to an aggressive over-development of the park; we need to get the balance right.... I have worked with residents and community groups, including Friends of Eastfield Park and users of the dog park, as well as local sporting groups, such as the Light Harness Club, Mountain District Pony Club, Eastfield Cricket Club and South Croydon Junior Football Club, to ensure all voices were heard. I want to continue to work with residents and user groups to ensure we get a balanced outcome for our wonderful park and ensure our park is not overdeveloped. Let’s continue to work together to get the balance right for improvements at Eastfield Park.
11.01.2022 Some serious work happening along the Tarralla Creek Trail - have you noticed the bridge has gone?
10.01.2022 I also, along with art work from Andrew Drewitt (The Chemist), attended the launch of another piece of work in Labocca Lane, Main St Croydon - "Carnifex" by Roger Archbold. It is believed that this predatory marsupial lion, Thylacoleo Carnifex, may have lived and hunted in the Maroondah area. Roger Archbold is an award-winning creative who lives and works in Maroondah. Roger has worked for some of Australia’s largest advertising agencies as an Art Director, Designer and Studio Manager. His design work has won Gold Awards in Graphic Design 2014 and Graphic Typography 3 and a Platinum Award in Graphic Logo 9.
10.01.2022 How great does Bensons Oval, Eastfield Park look? I bet the Juniors at South Croydon enjoyed playing on the ground this morning!
09.01.2022 A great idea - childrens' birthday party on the lawns at Aquahub - lovely day
08.01.2022 CERTAINY FOR RATE PAYERS AND BUSINESSES- NO RATE INCREASES The current pandemic is changing our world and will continue to do so into the foreseeable future. ... Residents and businesses need certainty and hope during a crisis and I plan to give them that. I have voted against rate increases and will continue to do so to give people financial certainty during the years ahead. Council’s income is guaranteed from the collection of rates and charges. The budget has the capacity to absorb the impact of no rate increases over the forward estimates and it will take leadership to navigate the future ahead. I will vote against any rate increases as it’s the right thing to do. We need to look towards how we recover from the current crisis and if elected I will do my part to help our community grow again. Let’s look after each other during this time.
08.01.2022 CROYDON WETLANDS PROJECT A NEW BRIDGE WITH VIEWS THROUGH TO THE WETLANDS I have been fortunate to be involved with residents and Melbourne Water in the design and planned implementation of this project which will see an improvement to the health of this natural waterway. It will also create a more accessible open space that will improve visual amenity and the overall look of the area. It would be fantastic to also get fish back into the creek!! Works will involve a massive ...clean-up of the current waterway with a much-needed new bridge, that will cross over the Wetlands and will connect walking and bike paths on either side. Water will also be harvested from this project and will be used to keep our local parks and gardens green. If elected, I’m looking forward continuing this important work.
05.01.2022 CHEONG PAVILION REDEVELOPMENT- LET’S SEE IT THROUGH When I started at the South Croydon Football Club in the 1960’s our change rooms were nothing but a tin shed and our social rooms a small old wooden hall. In the late 1970’s my wife and I, along with other supporters, went guarantor in the development of a new pavilion which stands today (albeit with some improvements of which I have had the pleasure of being involved in).... I’ve seen the club grow from our first game, where we had to pick sticks and stones off the oval in order to play, to a club that is built upon the foundations of community and family. A club that is all inclusive and has a strong track record of creating opportunities for women players. I am now excited to be part of the plan for a complete redevelopment of the site, which will include a multi-purpose community facility, with new social rooms and new change rooms. It will not only host the South Croydon Cricket Club News and South Croydon Football Club, it will also be utilised by the Croydon U3A Network Victoria. If elected, I am excitedly wanting to see this project through to ensure its construction as an all-inclusive venue that all the community can use.
04.01.2022 Andy Drewitt - artist extraordinaire, has just completed some amazing art work for Council in Labocca Lane on Main St Croydon. The art work commemorates the outstanding contribution Jim Burns (Chemist, Main St Croydon) has made to the community, describing Jim as "a healer in the community". Andrew in his bio states:... "My career began in the media where I produced work for outlets including The Age, Herald Sun, Leader Community Newspapers, The Australian and SBS. More recently I've been flying solo as a contractor for organisations including Arts Centre Melbourne, RMIT, Mercer, Maroondah City Council, Museums Victoria, AFL and State Library of Victoria. Along the way I've delved into art, producing exhibitions of photography, video and stencil art for venues such as the Immigration Museum of Victoria, Chapel Off Chapel, Migration Museum of South Australia, ArtSpace Realm and St Kilda Town Hall Gallery. After two decades of pointing cameras at people with industry recognition including two Walkleys and a United Nations Peace Media Award the best part of the job is still helping people to forget the camera, to just be themselves, to tell their story."
02.01.2022 A great day for cricket - especially at Bensons Oval, Eastfield Park, South Croydon. I met an Indian social group setting up for a game - all the way from the Western suburbs! Congratulations also to the team at Maroondah Council who maintain the ground in top condition.
02.01.2022 The reimagining Tarralla Creek is underway with major works happening and made interesting with all the recent heavy rain.
01.01.2022 Maroondah Council staff need to be congratulated for maintaining our beautiful sporting grounds and picnic areas. Cheong Park, South Croydon, was a hive of activity this morning with many people making use of the bbq area and playground for childrens parties! and the oval for some impromptu cricket!
01.01.2022 GATEWAY ESTATE AND DORSET ROAD INTERSECTION- A SAFER CROSSING IS NEEDED The intersection at The Gateway and Dorset Road, South Croydon is notoriously dangerous with many car accidents occurring. I have been working with VicRoads and local State Government representatives to design a plan for its improvement. If elected, I will fight for a safer crossing at the Gateway Estate and Dorset Road intersection and seek funding to build it.
