25.01.2022 A Malinauskas Labor Government will pursue an historic merger of South Australia’s universities with the objective of creating an internationally recognised top 100 university and driving the State’s economic growth for decades to come. If elected, Labor will establish a university merger commission to chart a path towards a merger.

24.01.2022 It’s hard to believe Americans are still fighting for a version of affordable healthcare, which is a long way short of public healthcare, something we now take for granted in Australia. Credit to Obama for showing leadership on the issue and actually delivering something as President.

23.01.2022 This is a truly shocking revelation contained in Paul Rice QC’s damning report.

22.01.2022 Best part of this job is supporting organisations like the Jodi Lee Foundation that do amazing work preventing and raising awareness about bowel cancer. Tonight it is their 10th anniversary and Annabel and I have the honour to join over 650 of their long-time supporters, heroes and survivors.

22.01.2022 It's been a different and tough year, so I hope everyone enjoys their long weekend. If you are travelling to our amazing regions, please drive safely. And to all the South Australians working this long weekend, keeping our state safe and keeping our state moving - thank you!

20.01.2022 Marlene has been a long time resident of Mitchell Park. She loves the suburb and the sense of community it has. I met Marlene this morning when I was out with Nadia Clancy for her street-corner meetings. And it turns out that Marlene knew my father when he was working for Housing Trust at the time. She shared a little story about how my father described the local community centre as the 'heart of the community'. ... It stuck with Marlene after all those years and is why she loves her suburb and the community!

19.01.2022 South Australian Labor will today introduce a coercive control bill aimed at outlawing a range of intimidating, controlling and threatening behaviours. Coercive control refers to a pattern of behaviours including emotional abuse, isolation, sexual coercion, financial abuse, cyber-stalking and various types of intimidation. We want to work with the State Government, all MPs, service providers, legal services, women experiencing domestic violence and other stakeholders to effectively deal with this insidious form of domestic abuse.

19.01.2022 The number of reports of suspected child abuse to the Child Protection Department grew to almost 40,000 in the past financial year. And over 14,000 calls to the Child Abuse Report Line went unanswered during the same period. It is deeply worrying that this volume of calls have gone unanswered. ... As of last month, 4,456 children were in state care, up from 3,988 in June the previous year. The Marshall Liberal Government needs to explain what it is doing to prevent these huge increases in children being abused and taken into care.

19.01.2022 Young people are the future of our State, so it makes sense to work with them. This morning, along with Lucy Hood - Labor for Adelaide, we met with young SA Youth Leaders for a forum about what's important to them and their future here in our State. Our young leaders had some interesting discussions including education, the workforce, a city of liveability and wellbeing and industries for a sustainable future

19.01.2022 Another day, another Liberal privatisation. This privatisation agenda is now out of control. A key responsibility of government is child protection, the decision to cease funding and privatise a life-saving service like the Infant Therapeutic Reunification Service will put South Australian children at risk.

19.01.2022 Meet Cressida O’Hanlon. A small business owner who’s our latest candidate for the next election. She’ll be taking on Steven Marshall in the seat of Dunstan. It will be a hard fight. ... But Cressida is up for the challenge. She has a strong connection to the community and will be actively campaigning for the election of a Labor Government.

18.01.2022 We are the only mainland state without a university in the Top 100 in the world. And this is my plan to fix that. The harsh truth is that each of our universities are too small and too undercapitalised to make it into the list of top international universities. They simply don’t do enough large-scale research to be recognised as world leading and that is holding our state back. And so, if elected, Labor will establish a university merger commission to chart a path towards a ...merger with the objective of creating an internationally recognised top 100 university and driving the state’s economic growth for decades to come. Higher education is a major economic driver for our state, supporting thousands of jobs, attracting tens of thousands of students from overseas and generating hundreds of millions of dollars in economic activity. But I fear as a state we are falling behind.

18.01.2022 $45.9 million into the South Australian economy. And 435 jobs created. That’s what last year’s Superloop 500 did for South Australia. The decision to axe the Adelaide 500 V8 supercar race is simply devastating for South Australia. ... Sign the petition to help save the Adelaide 500: www.changesa.org.au/save500

18.01.2022 Four blackouts in just two years. That’s the number of times a blackout has occurred at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital with the latest blackout occurring on Monday night. ... We are calling for an independent investigation into this incident so the fault can be identified, people can be held accountable and steps can be taken to ensure it never happens again. How was this able to happen in this special care baby unit looking after our most vulnerable babies?

18.01.2022 Have you signed and shared the petition to help Save the Adelaide 500? We need your help to send a message to Steven Marshall and the Liberals that their decision to axe the Adelaide 500 is the wrong decision! Sign and share it: www.changesa.org.au/save500

18.01.2022 South Australia would be the first jurisdiction to introduce such a tax, that will include a fixed tax for all electric cars and an additional variable charge based on distance travelled.

17.01.2022 I have written to Facebook Australia/NZ Managing Director William Easton requesting that he immediately removes restrictions on important government pages that broadcast public safety messages. I am appalled that pages like SA Health are shut down in the midst of a public health emergency and the Bureau of Meteorology when we have Very High Fire Danger Ratings in parts of South Australia. It is totally unacceptable.

14.01.2022 This is me at my graduation 17 years ago. Today, I returned for another graduation but as a guest speaker. I have always been grateful for the opportunities I had at uni, especially the education I received. It allowed me to be where I am today. But education also has an important role in our economy.... Ultimately, if we are any chance to succeed in this economy, especially now, then every last young person must be given the chance to fulfil their potential. Young people are our future. And our ability to provide a well-educated and highly skilled workforce will determine our role in the new economy. But I know that there is an unjust role socio-economic disadvantage plays in education. And addressing disadvantage isn’t just right, it’s smart. That is why, one of my three key overarching themes for my economic policies is: An Education for Tomorrow.

14.01.2022 From start-up to an international leader in advanced manufacturing, Silanna is using its technology in a broad range of industries from communications, health, defence industries and energy. Today, its Chief Scientist, Dr Petar Atanackovic and Mr David Lewis, Head of School, Chemical Engineering from their partner, The University of Adelaide, took Eddie Hughes MP and I through the picoFAB, highlighting the possibilities of its facility across a spectrum of industries.

14.01.2022 Our Men’s Sheds across the State are so much more than just sheds. During Men’s Shed Week 2020, we’re reminded of the important work it does in addressing health and wellbeing as COVID-19 has highlighted the importance of community. Too often, Men don’t take an interest in their health and wellbeing, but Men’s Sheds seek to change this, providing a safe and busy environment where men can find old fashioned mateship and have a yarn or cuppa. ... These photos taken during my visit to the Tea Tree Gully Men’s Shed in July last year where Blair Boyer MP and I were generously hosted by Doug and other members of this active Shed who providing fantastic items for local communities and projects.

13.01.2022 To help South Australian families with their cost of living, the Government should reverse their hikes and freeze increases to fees and charges. The Marshall Liberal Government's State Budget has failed to deliver any cost of living relief from last year's unprecedented $500 million hike to fees, charges and taxes. We've called on the Government to follow the lead of Western Australia and Victoria to freeze fees and charges - but this plea has been ignored.

13.01.2022 Five years ago today, I entered into the Parliament of South Australia as a Member of Parliament. In my first ever speech in Parliament, I said, "the desire of my grandparents to seek, seize and share opportunity, even in the face of real hardship, has undoubtedly influenced my politics." It is why I believe that everyone, regardless of their background or wealth, deserves a decent standard of living.... And is something that I will still continue to work hard towards, a society based on equality of opportunity.

12.01.2022 Child Protection Minister Rachel Sanderson still cannot say whether she has written to her Chief Executive asking to be told of serious sexual abuse against children in state care. An independent report has found that despite Sanderson’s public statements that she would be informed of serious sexual abuse, she had not actually issued this instruction to her own department. Sanderson has had this report for more than a week why hasn’t she written to her chief executive yet?

12.01.2022 RECAP: It’s been a big couple of days! Thursday night/ Friday started with the announcement of the decision to axe the Adelaide 500 by Steven Marshall. Sign the petition: www.changesa.org.au/save500 On Saturday, we announced our policy to establish a university merger commission to chart a path towards a merger with the objective of creating an internationally recognised top 100 university and driving the State’s economic growth for decades to come. ... Yesterday, we introduced our candidate for the next State Election in the electorate of King - Rhiannon Pearce - Labor for King. Today, we continue the fight to Save the Adelaide 500!

12.01.2022 Local Governments have an important role in our society. Tonight, along with Shadow Minister Jayne Stinson MP Member for Badcoe, we had a discussion about local government reforms and important matters impacting the sector with Mayors and Deputies across the State. Thank you to the Local Government Association of South Australia for the invitation tonight.

11.01.2022 The cuts by the Marshall Liberal Government to our health system must stop. It is simply unacceptable to have "potentially life-threatening" cases waiting for ambulances and having patients forced to catch taxis to hospitals.

11.01.2022 Adelaide train services are at risk as foreign company Keolis Downer fails to sign up train drivers. Up to 60 train drivers have not signed up to work for the private operator, leaving it well short of the 174 drivers it says it needs to run the train network, according to Nine News. There are serious questions about the Marshall Liberal Government's decision to give a foreign company $2.1 billion of taxpayers' money and whether this privatisation represents value for money for taxpayers.

10.01.2022 The excitement level has just reached 100 in our house.

10.01.2022 Good on ya Mark McGowan! South Australia is a world leader in drinks container recovery, starting with its own deposit scheme back in 1977, the only state with this kind of scheme for 35 years. We also brought in the ban on single use plastic bags in retail stores and, recently, became the first state in Australia to ban single-use plastics. ... With the environment, we can choose to lead, or we can choose to follow. I say we lead, just as we have in the past, because the environment is forever.

09.01.2022 It’s been 253 days since our families and friends in Victoria have been apart from us. As the borders open today, many families and friends will reunite during what is an already difficult year. 09.01.2022 Older South Australians have raised families, paid taxes and contributed to our society. They deserve better than what they’re getting from this Liberal Government.

09.01.2022 Good to be at the footy with Dad last night. Carn the

08.01.2022 Premier Steven Marshall must now step in and axe the $2.14 billlion bungled contract to privatise Adelaide's train network.

08.01.2022 The Marshall Liberal Government told us that privatising the maximum security Adelaide Remand Centre would be safe. When the Adelaide Remand Centre was under government control there weren't any escapes for decades. In less than 15 months under the operations of a foreign-owned private company, a dangerous remand prisoner has managed to escape.... This is why Labor campaigned against the privatisation.

05.01.2022 Fast tracking infrastructure projects will drive employment and support South Australian businesses. It’s simple. Infrastructure creates jobs and economic activity. The Marshall Liberal Government has made its decision on the completion of the North-South Corridor but major works will not start for another three years. ... This must be brought forward, along with a range of other projects including some that are shovel ready now. This is part of Labor’s plan to rebuild a stronger South Australia.

05.01.2022 This is Rhiannon Pearce - Labor for King. Your local Labor candidate for the electorate of King! I am excited to be bringing a strong and vibrant team of candidates to the 2022 State Election and Rhiannon Pearce will make a strong representative for the North East community. The North-East will be the key battle ground at the next election the Liberals have let down the people of the North Eastern suburbs.

04.01.2022 Privatisation doesn’t work! When the Adelaide Remand Centre was publicly run, it was a safe and secure facility, it went decades without an escape. It has taken less than 15 months for a dangerous prisoner to escape the same Remand Centre privatised by the Marshall Liberal Government last year.

04.01.2022 All Adelaide Koala Rescue is asking of the State Government is a temporary bridging permit so that they can continue to treat and rescue koalas until a permit is issued for their new facility in Lenswood. Surely with all the resources of Government this is something that could easily be done.

04.01.2022 Tonight, ABC News will run an extraordinary story about South Australian bureaucrats encouraging hospital surgeons to "say no" to "old" patients and those with multiple medical conditions. It is beyond belief that this is what our health system has become. The cuts to health care are having real impacts and elderly South Australians deserve better than this. The cuts must stop!

04.01.2022 How many of these silos have you seen? And yes, you can find them right here in South Australia.

03.01.2022 Kangaroo Island has been through a lot this year, great to see local businesses, volunteers and first responders getting an audience with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. The Duke And Duchess Of Cambridge

03.01.2022 From my family to yours, we wish you a safe and Merry Christmas!

02.01.2022 This is on today’s front page. Police resources are being pushed to breaking point. Our police have stepped up during the COVID-19 pandemic - protecting our borders and keeping our community safe. Yet the Marshall Liberal Government has imposed $38 million worth of cuts to police operations over four years. ... The $11.2 million worth of cuts in the coming financial year must be abandoned. And the Marshall Liberal Government must sit down with our police to fix this resourcing crisis.

02.01.2022 Today Shadow Environment Minister Susan Close held a press a conference which looks as though it has saved Koalas lives, literally. Good result.

02.01.2022 This was me earlier this year when I visited the team at Adelaide Koala Rescue during the horrific bushfires. It’s devastating to hear the Adelaide koala rescue and rehabilitation facility say it will have no choice but to release, euthanise, or hand a number of koalas to other wildlife services when its lease at a Government facility ends tomorrow. Adelaide Koala Rescue managing director, Jane Brister, says we’ve been told all koalas have to out of our Campbelltown premises by tomorrow, but also that we can’t transfer or care for them at our new site until a permit is issued. All we ask is that Minister Speirs intervene to grant a temporary bridging permit so that we can continue to treat and rescue koalas until a permit is issued for our new facility in Lenswood.

02.01.2022 This independent inquiry clearly states Rachel Sanderson failed. This wasn’t just a minor failure, in the report's own words it was a significant failure. It is beyond belief that Rachel Sanderson made repeated public statements that she would be informed about sexual assaults, when she never issued those instructions to her department.... Sanderson admitted she was unaware of two cases of pregnant 13-year-olds in state care who were sexually abused by paedophiles. Rachel Sanderson is clearly out of her depth, and for the sake of children in state care, she must be replaced.

02.01.2022 Everyone in health care settings must wear a single-use surgical mask (covering mouth and nose) at all times when in the physical presence of other people on the premises. This includes: care providers... patients clients residents administrative and other staff employees visitors students contractors any other person on the premises There are exceptions for mandatory mask use in health care settings. The definition of a health care setting includes GP clinics, public and private hospitals and specialist practices (including drug and alcohol facilities), pharmacies, allied health services, dental services and Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services. 02.01.2022 Meet Labor's Candidate for King - Rhiannon Pearce - Labor for King!

01.01.2022 To everyone working in healthcare, emergency services, hospitality, retail or anywhere else today. Thank you!

01.01.2022 Mally Christmas Photo. This was chaos. Time for a beer.

01.01.2022 Congratulations Annastacia Palaszczuk MP and Queensland Labor on a strong victory in #QLDvotes From leading an Opposition of just 7 MPs to Government in one term to a third election victory in a row is a huge achievement and something you and your team can be very proud of.

01.01.2022 Last month, a post appeared on this page regarding the Marshall Liberal Government’s privatisation of Adelaide’s train services. The post said that Steven Marshall and Corey Wingard have sold our trains. It also identified specific train lines that had been sold. After being advised that the content in the post may contain some inaccuracy, I would like to clarify it. ... The Marshall Liberal Government has privatised our train and tram services. As a result, a private company now operates our trains and trams.

01.01.2022 This is what I said back in 2019. And I still mean it. Everyday, taxpayers are paying nearly half a million dollars to a foreign owned company to run our own train network. And now, statistics released by the Marshall Liberal Government have revealed public transport complaints have skyrocketed since the privatisation. ... Public transport should be for people, not private profit. It’s why we will bring back our trains where it belongs - in public hands.
