22.01.2022 With thanks to our membership and committee, Victoria's Goldfields have stayed open for the last 40years. Non-supporters should remember that PMAV members have allowed them this freedom. QLD is now playing catchup. Lets hope it's not too little, too late.

20.01.2022 Great to see QLD prospectors have had enough with landclosures and Goldfields shutting. Please support them in their fight. We will help and advise where we can.

19.01.2022 The Eureka flag , commonly referred to at the time as the 'Australian flag' or the 'Southern Cross' was flown for the first time in 1854 at Bakery Hill, "The disaffected miners... held a meeting where at the Australian flag of independence was solemnly consecrated and vows proffered for its defence." with the 'Eureka oath' being sworn by Peter Lalor to the affirmation of his fellow demonstrators, who encamped themselves around the flag to resist further licence hunts and har...assment by the authorities: "We swear by the Southern Cross to stand truly by each other and fight to defend our rights and liberties." The white and blue Eureka Flag, said to be designed by a Canadian miner, Captain Henry Ross, and bearing nothing but the Southern Cross, its maiden appearance was a "fascinating object to behold." The flag was believed to have been sewn by Anastasia Hayes and reportedly influenced by earlier designs such as the Australian Federation Flag, as a gesture of defiance, it deliberately excluded the British Union Flag. During the battle Henry Ross was mortally wounded near the flagpole. Following the battle, the flag was torn down and damaged with swords and bullets by soldiers, with trooper John King souveniring the flag. It was held by his family until it was loaned to the Ballarat Art Gallery in 1895, where it remained with bits of the flag cut off and given to visiting dignitaries. Approximately 1/3 of the original flag is missing. It was long suspected that the flag was a replica until the flag was compared with an authenticated fragment that been cut off on 3 December 1854 the day the rebellion was suppressed. A comparison of the fibres of the fragment and matrix put the authenticity of the flag in the Gallery beyond doubt as they were found to be identical.Today the remnants of the design are on display at the Ballarat Fine Art Gallery in Victoria. Since the original miners revolt at Eureka, the flag, born out of adversity, continues to be regarded by some as a symbol of nationalism, closely associated with this struggle for democracy and notion of the Australian ‘fair go’ and the right of the individual over tyranny. The PMAV proudly carry this tradition on, ready at any time to fight for your rights.

12.01.2022 "Why are you so angry, mate?" This cockatoo was NOT HAPPY with this goanna in its tree up at Tin Can Bay on Sunday. Floyd Barber said the encounter lasted more ...than 30 minutes - and even resulted in the bird throwing the lizard out of the tree at one point! : Floyd Barber

12.01.2022 PLEASE drive safely this weekend. Lifting of restrictions and a lot of people have forgotten how to drive or are impatient to head away. The gold was there yesterday and will still be there tomorrow, so watch out for fools!

12.01.2022 Please note new times for tomorrow's show

10.01.2022 Some streets are paved with gold. I think ill start panning the gutters of Tarnagulla!

09.01.2022 Queensland has for years struggled to have a cohesive group to fight the lockup of Goldfields. Local and state governments quickly forget what prospectors have and continue to bring to the economy. In these coming local elections, know who you and your neighbour are voting for. Many Greens in sheep hemp clothing.. Dont let Victoria go down tbe same road.

03.01.2022 I just wanted to share with our followers, this amazing mural, that depicts our Heathcote Goldfields and local wine region I’ve followed Keira’s progress of her mural, from the very beginning and she is so talented. Back in the 1850’s, Heathcote was very rich in gold and still gives up that elusive colour by prospectors who visit our town.... Heathcote is the second biggest wine region in Victoria and we produce some of the best Shiraz in the world. If you are passing through. Please stop and check it out at Heathcote Inn. Cheers, Lynnie Hindle #HeathcoteInn #SketchByDesign #KeiraSloetjes

03.01.2022 This is why official organisations like the PMAV are important to protect your freedom and access.

02.01.2022 On 11 November 1918, the guns of the Western Front fell silent after four years of continuous warfare. With their armies retreating and close to collapse, German leaders signed an Armistice, bringing to an end the First World War. Australians had achieved a fighting reputation out of proportion to their numbers, but victory had come at a heavy cost. They suffered almost 48,000 casualties during 1918, including more than 12,000 dead. In the four years of the war more than 330...,000 Australians had served overseas, and more than 60,000 of them had died. The social effects of these losses cast a long shadow over the postwar decades. Each year on this day Australians observe one minute’s silence at 11am, in memory of those who died or suffered in all wars and armed conflicts. LEST WE FORGET.

01.01.2022 On this day, 30th November 1854, Peter Lalor is elected to lead the gold-diggers in the movement that would become the Eureka Stockade. The Eureka Stockade was ...the 1854 miners' uprising on the goldfields of Ballarat, Victoria, Australia. Peter Lalor was an Irish immigrant, born on 5 February 1827, who initially worked on the construction of the Melbourne - Geelong railway line, but soon joined the gold rush and began mining in the Ovens Valley, and then in Ballarat. Conditions on the Australian goldfields were already harsh, with many people squeezed into over-crowded dustbowls on the fields, and competition was rife for the best diggings. Over-priced goods and equipment from traders, coupled with the excessively high cost of mining licences, exacerbated discontent and unrest, particularly when miners were subjected to frequent, surprise checks of their licences. Previous delegations for miners' rights had met with resistance from the Victorian government, so on 30 November 1854, Lalor was elected as a more militant leader. The result was the Eureka Stockade (see December 3). Pictured: Peter Lalor, 1856. Ludwig Becker (1808-1861) artist. State Library of Victoria.

01.01.2022 Prospecting is a wonderful hobby, that the whole family can enjoy. There’s not many hobbies, where you get rewarded for your efforts. There’s trophies in sporting that you can win; but nothing compares to finding your first piece of gold. That’s priceless
