24.01.2022 I speak with Jana at Mercenary Entertainment he takes me into the deep about my first boxing promotion 12 years ago and the way putting on a promotion is all-consuming from the idea stage right through to the final bell. We discuss the many challenges I’ve had to respond to, and how as a promoter, you have to love it to be in it. I tell listeners about the lengths I go to, to put on evenly matched fights that will have punters on the edge of their seats and promote all boxing shows far and wide. I also share how I know my shows have been a fun night out by sensing the great vibe in the crowd.

He describes his sparring partner Daniel Geale as a chess player and tells us how the ring broke when he fought sporting rival turned lifelong friend, Jamie Pittman. He also tells of his famous bout with Anthony Mundine, where the weight division was altered in Mundine’s favour days out from the fight. Rob confirms he is now retired and content living in the bush, and cheating his mates at cards, but misses the camaraderie and banter at the Grange Gym.

He says he knows Billy is a hell of a fighter, but is confident that his strength, creativity and ability to analyse a fight while he’s in the ring and adapt, will see him break Billy down and leave with the win.
