28.12.2021 Malaysia Airlines and Air Asia have been the first priority airlines I have used to travel to most of the 55 countries I have been to. I live in Sydney, Australia so the usual transit/stopover is Singapore or Malaysia. And Malaysian food is my favourite! The airport had all the authentic tastes and flavours. I would overreat so much inbetween flights. There's even a 6-hour hotel room inside the airport where you can sleep off a food coma. Tickets had always been quite affor...dable on Malaysia Airlines, but they got even cheaper following two major catastrophes in March and July of 2014. They lost a plane, and then another got shot down. Yeah... wtf. I flew business class for $1500 soon after the second plane was shot. Had the entire cabin to myself (about half a dozen were in economy). Surreal experiences. I use the sky diving logic, that parachutes fail to open 1 in 1000. So the odds of three planes going down that year from the same airline had to be slim. As for Air Asia, wow... their business model was so good. Asia's best low-cost airline for 12 consecutive years. (The low-cost criteria for the award is probably so they can exclude Singapore Airlines from consideration!) 2017 Day 00 Kuala Lumpur

21.12.2021 In hindsight, I should have started this trip series with this photo. This was me on Day -1 of the Balkans tour, leaving home in Sydney for Malaysia, then Greece, then Macedonia (now known as North Macedonia). What a trek it often tends to be for us Australians to go anywhere in this world!... 2017 Day 00 Sydney
