24.01.2022 This beauty of a double decker hive was created by Dan @sydneynativebees and installed when we first opened, and has remained happy, healthy and active in its home nestled among the warrigal greens and fennel flowers. Dan is filled with so much knowledge and passion for these native stingless bees (Tetragonula Carbonaria) and we're stoked to have him back again to teach another Native Stingless Beekeeping workshop on 5th Dec. There's a few spots remaining if you'd like to j...oin us. Native stingless bee colonies are ideal if you're looking to learn how to incorporate bees into your home, school, workplace or any other community space. https://www.pocketcityfarms.com.au//native-beekeeping-dec-

24.01.2022 Cover crop love With Covid continuing to affect our business we’ve needed to make a few changes to the way we normally do things over the coming summer - usually our busiest time of year for produce and events. We’re determined to continue growing food in our city for many years to come, and so in this season of uncertainty we're growing soil - focussing on green manure crops that will grow the life and vitality of the soil, and require less maintenance. Green manure crops... are well known for their ability to 'rest' the soil by building nutrients such as nitrogen and providing organic matter back to microbes in the earth. This first succession of green manure crops are giving our soil some much needed love, and today are being mown and resown with another. We’re looking forward to being back to regular programming growing produce in the months to come, though in the meantime we still have quite a few of our community and education programs continuing to run with all safety precautions. We have a great range of workshops running to help you get growing and living well at home, we’re happy to be welcoming school groups back on the farm for excursions this term and our new Thriving School Gardens program has kicked off for term one bookings next year to help with the success of your school gardens. Our unique Common Spaces are also available for hire for weddings, corporate groups and small events, and our weekly volunteer sessions are all on!

23.01.2022 We have two spaces that have just become available for our Small Space Veggie Gardening workshop this Saturday. Get in quick and head to our website to snap up a ticket.

20.01.2022 Time to get those backyard and balcony tommies growing! We’ve been potting up tomatoes for our next seedling sale on October 3rd, but they are growing so well we’ve popped them on our online shop early so you can also add them to your produce orders! For now we have both red and black cherry tomatoes, which are perfect for urban gardens and less susceptible to fruit fly, a common pest in Sydney’s hot and humid summers. The seedlings are at least 30cm high and ready to go in the ground - at this size, they’ll give you a very solid head start on your annual tomato crop! You can add them to your order this week by 12pm tomorrow. https://www.pocketcityfarms.com.au/shop-all

We're hosting a couple of Little Farmer vacation care sessions again with @camperdowncommons and Camperdown Tennis, providing fresh air, fun and games, nature crafts and experiences, from bug hunts to veggie discos, on a real working urban farm for primary age kids. www.pocketcityfarms.com.au/vacation-care

16.01.2022 Thank you to everyone who came out to the farm tour yesterday! It was only the second one we've done since COVID-19 started and it was an absolute pleasure to have people back on the farm to chat about growing veg in the city! Next one coming up in November :-) // Julia

16.01.2022 Loaded with produce and seedlings today! We’re set up til 12 at the farm, come say hi, grab some plants and good food and any garden advice you need!

16.01.2022 One of our awesome volunteers doing some casual mowing down of this green manure crop. To grow out the excess phosphorous in our soils, we aren't going to turn this crop in to decompose, like you would a traditional green manure. Instead, we are removing the green waste for @yourbiologicalcompost to make hot compost piles with, while leaving the root matter in to decompose and feed the soil life - and planting a succession straight into the residue.

11.01.2022 We've had three lucky last spots just open up for our Small Space Veggie Gardening workshop this Saturday.
