01.01.2022 2020 moments - part b 1. One hour of exercise allowed within a 5km radius to home 2. Bourke Street ghost town, taken on a Sunday around midday... 3. A usually full Melbourne airport carpark, after state border closure 4. At Basil’s aged care in Fawkner was hit very hard, with all staff replaced to help contain the spread and save it’s residents. Unfortunately a lot of lives were lost 5. The premier under stress, at the height of the 2nd wave in Melbourne 6. 9pm curfew put in place for greater Melbourne 7. One of the many anti-lockdown protests, this one at the Shrine of Remembrance 8. ‘Ring of steel’ police and ADF road blocks set up around greater Melbourne 9. Melbourne Cup week usually attracts 300,000 spectators over 4 days - this year it had zero 10. And on the last day of 2020, after coming out of 112 days in lockdown, and after going for over 60 days with no local transmission of the virus - we now find ourselves with 5-hour wait times at pop-up test sites again. We were the envy of the world after coming out of lockdown and eradicating the virus locally, but the borders cannot remain shut off from the rest of the country/world forever.
