22.01.2022 Welcome to Foot Health Week 2019! This week, feet come first! For the next 7 days we are working with podiatrists all around Australia to spread awareness of ju...st how important your feet are. Foot conditions heavily impact our health and our communities and as university-trained lower limb experts, podiatrists are as important as ever in reducing and reversing this impact. Podiatrists are trained to diagnose, treat and maintain your feet to help you get back to living your life pain-free. Over the coming days keep an eye out on this page to learn the impact of foot health and how a podiatrist can help you. We will also share some tips and advice on things such as symptoms to look out for, how to take care of your feet, and when to take a visit to your local podiatrist. Additionally, podiatrists all over Australia are hosting events and stalls, giving free foot checks, advice and spreading the message with the community. So everyone, STAND UP FOR YOUR HEALTH! 17.01.2022 Diabetes is a complex condition where the body can’t maintain healthy levels of glucose (sugar) in the blood, which can lead to long term and short term health ...complications. Insulin is essential for the conversion of glucose into energy, which helps our body function properly. In people with diabetes, insulin is no longer produced or not enough is produced. Diabetes is classified into two main types: [Type 1 diabetes] It is not associated with lifestyle and is managed with daily insulin injections. It is an autoimmune condition where the immune system destroys the cells in the pancreas that produce insulin. Symptoms can include excessive thirst and urination, unexplained weight loss, weakness, fatigue and blurred vision. [Type 2 diabetes] It is associated with lifestyle risk factors and is managed with lifestyle changes, such as diet and exercise, as well as medication and insulin injections. It is a progressive condition where the body becomes resistant to the normal effects of insulin and/or gradually loses the ability to produce enough insulin in the pancreas. For some people, the first sign may be a complication of diabetes such as a heart attack, vision problems or a foot ulcer. #NationalDiabetesWeek #NDW2020
