19.01.2022 BEEP TEST It's SUPER IMPORTANT that everyone in the whole group runs together. I have beginners (no idea and have never run) to national standard. They all run together. We're a group. We're a team. We're comrades.... BEEP TEST = Every time the "beep" sounds, you need to be back at the cone and start that shuttle distance. It sould be 20m. As.the levels go up, the time drops and the shuttle runs get harder. I have chnged how I do these for years. I have 20m, 15m, 10m and 5m cones set up. If the runner needs a break, they drop a distance. When recovered, they go back up. Keep running and stay awesome! 17.01.2022 FOOT POSITION WHILE RUNNING Here is me flat out at 2min / km pace. I'm rocking my new @assaultfitness Air Runner tready. During my Run Clubs it is RARE for me to talk about foot position. It's too distracting for the runner.... #1 RULE: What you know, you won't forget. I teach you running. So, if you're doing a majority of eveything else right, your feet will be perfect. CHECK OUT THE FOOT IN THE EARLY FLIGHT PHASE: GREEN: My foot is in a good position It should look close to this vertical position Feet are used in the conact phase, not flight phase RED: Opening up the ankle joint too much Shortening the Achilles tendon Actively using the calf muscle in the wrong cycle of running This is common when runners are instructed to "fore foot strike" or "midfoot strike". They start to muck around with the foot and should leave the foot strike alone. 16.01.2022 3 MILE RUN SESH WITH THE SOCCER BALL This is my back yard. A stock route. The Charolais cattle are my cheer squad... and Roxy. Just under 5km for the Aussies out there. ... KNOWING YOUR DISTANCE IS IMPORTANT: I know that "up and back" is 1 mile. I know that "up" or "back" is 1/2 Mile (800m), I also know that to the 'Stud and back" is 4km. Everything needs to be measurable, to be repeatable, to then be reliable. To avoid injury, you need to know these distances. Also, when you're talking to me in the clinic, we've got something to work with. You need to know when and where you can abandon (if injured) your run and walk home. SOCCER BALL RUNNING: I like soccer. Have for years. Running with the ball at my feet helps me to keep my form. Stay awesome. 13.01.2022 TIME TRIALS SCIENCE: Everything must be measurable, to be repeatable, to be reliable. I have different distances. If the runners are feeling "on", they can choose a distance to crush. If they are feeling "off", they can choose a distance to still race and go through the motions without hurting themselves.... INJURY MUST BE AVOIDED AT ALL COST. BEHIND THE SCENES: I teach racing techniques and timing. It all comes from within. I need to be in their heads because as a coach, it's highly likely I cannot always run with them, I cannot set up their starting blocks and I cannot be there for their warm ups and cool downs. 13.01.2022 DAN DELIVERED Hit the tartan track today at @qsacbrisbane and Dan smashed his PB 400m time. To get to the 54.6 seconds he dropped his PB by 3 whole seconds. He's happy. I'm happy.... Dan is traditionally a triathlete. Never identify with an event. Distances can be changed. He has only dropped below 1min for 1 month. Pretty impressive times. Here is a screen shot of his vid from way up in the stands! He is about 20m from the finish line. WHAT WENT WELL: Shoulders were square Hip flexibility was excellent Great hamstring use Good cadence (strike rate) WHAT WE'LL WORK ON: 30m sprints WHY 30m SPRINTS? There was a runner who ran the same race as Dan and had a quick 30m surge and that cost Dan a place. We'll work on that. Watch this space! Speed-endurance is a tough race. We're up for the challenge. 13.01.2022 RUN CLUB SESH I have plenty of running drills up my sleeve... This is a good one. Sorts the men from the boys so to speak.... DRILL 1. Set a distance (20m, 50m 100m, whatever) 2. Intervals 40 sec running and 20 sec passing the person in front 3. I've liked Mizuno for 27 years... I think that's the right number of years?? All I wanted was their black spikes. Was it Carl Lewis who wore them?? Hey, it's been a while. RUN CLUB TODAY (for the folks in Straya): Heaps of PBs. Sounds ridiculous, but I hurt my arm in some Judo katame-waza (grappling techniques) a few days ago. So I kept my own running light today. I'm currently busy behind the scenes teaching the 3 - 17 year old athletes at Toowoomba Little Athletics to dial in their running technique and testing my training programs in "real time". It should be no secret that running is the base of nearly every sport. I'm Dr Renea Reich, Structural Podiatrist and founder of the Think Feet Podiatry group and Podiatry Coach.
