24.01.2022 Thank you to everyone for staying home, staying safe and helping us get rid of this awful virus.

23.01.2022 To provide you with an insight into what we're doing behind the scenes, we will be sharing a "behind-the-scenes" video every day over these next few days.

22.01.2022 WARNING! Today is scheduled to be of high risk to those with hayfever and asthma. You should be taking your hay fever nasal spray, asthma preventer, or both and you shouldn’t stop until New Year’s Day (most adults with asthma do need to take a preventer all year, not just in springtime). What is thunderstorm asthma?... Thunderstorm asthma can happen suddenly to people in spring or summer when there is a lot of pollen in the air and the weather is hot, dry, windy and stormy. People with asthma and/or hay fever need extra protection to avoid thunderstorm asthma between September and January in Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland. This means using preventer medicine every day and always having a reliever inhaler (blue puffer) ready. See your doctor to get the best asthma and/or hay fever medication plan. Spring thunderstorm weather can cause pollen grains to burst into tiny pieces and the wind then blows them around us. When people breathe in these tiny pieces of pollen they can get deep inside the lungs and trigger an asthma attack. Spring weather can also lead to breathing problems for people who get seasonal hay fever. People who wheeze and sneeze with hay fever from pollens during spring are more likely to get thunderstorm asthma even if they haven't had asthma before. People with springtime hay fever be aware If you already have springtime hay fever, you could suddenly get an asthma attack if you are outside in gusty wind during a thunderstorm in a place where there is ryegrass pollen in the air (most of south-eastern Australia). This can happen even if you don't have asthma. The risk is highest between October and the end of December. What you can do to keep safe? During spring and early summer, use a doctor prescribed nasal spray medicine (like Avamys, Azonaire, Beconase, Budamax, Budesonide, Flixonase, Nasonex, Omnaris, Rhinocort, Sensease, Telnase). Start at the beginning of September and keep using it until the end of December. Stay up to date with pollen counts and weather forecasts during spring and early summer so you know if a storm is coming. Just before and during storms with wind gusts, get inside a building or car with the windows shut and the air conditioner switched to recirculate/recycled. People with asthma be aware If you have asthma and pollen allergy, you could have a severe asthma attack if you are outside in gusty wind during a springtime thunderstorm in a place where there is ryegrass pollen in the air (most of south-eastern Australia). If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

21.01.2022 Today marks my 30th Father’s Day and what an exciting adventure it’s been. Unfortunately unable to spend it with these two, but thankful for modern technology that still allows us to celebrate semi-together. Not the outcome we all hoped for today but I thank you all for what you’re doing for one another and our community, helping us fight and slowly (fingers-crossed) conquer this terrible war against COVID-19. 08.01.2022 I know you're all keen to see what's changing so I'll cut right to it. Thanks to the efforts of every Victorian, there are some things we can do now and do ...safely. From 11.59pm tonight we'll make some changes for metro Melbourne that help us reconnect with friends and family and spend more time with the ones we miss, and the people we love. Then from 11.59pm on 1 November, we'll take the rest of the Third Step. That means some more easing around visitors at home, retail and hospo, religious gatherings, personal training and workplaces and outdoor community sport will restart. We may be able to bring some of these changes forward slightly, depending on the numbers and health advice and I'll have an update for you on how we're going next weekend. We'll make some further changes in regional Victoria over the two weeks too including increasing the limits for religious gatherings, pubs and restaurants, and getting kids back to indoor sport. I know this isn't everything everyone wanted but our plan was always going to follow the advice of our public health experts. And I'm not pretending that this makes everything better for every Victorian either. Some people would rather the entire state opened yesterday. I get it. Nothing about this is easy. But after everything we've sacrificed, we can't afford to risk it all now. Our focus needs to be on keeping cases down and transmission low. That means keep getting tested, following the health advice and playing it safe. We've come so far and we are so close to seeing this through. And it's all thanks to you.
