25.01.2022 Are you wrangling your kids this morning?
25.01.2022 What is in your protein powder? You all know we advise against you having cold smoothies on a regular basis. But we also know sh#t happens and mornings are manic and a few times a week you want a smoothie. I have searched a really long time to find a natural protein powder that doesn't have a long list of unnecessary ingredients and isn't bloody sweetened with that stupid sh#t "stevia". The mainstream protein powders are worse with fillers and artificial sweeteners and fl...avours. Most of them are difficult to digest, resulting in horrendous gas But, I've finally found a powder that only has 2 ingredients!!!!! 2! No sweeteners! That means you can add it to pancake batter, bread mix, muffins etc and it won't affect the taste! Whilst I'm not exactly happy with the emulsifier, i think they add it to stop the powder from caking. It would be good to know the amount of emulsifier content in it. See more
25.01.2022 This is baby Wren (isn't she cute?? Those cheeks ). But pay attention to dad's wrist. Wrist pain after giving birth is really common. Like dad here, if you are holding your baby a lot in awkward, prolonged positions like this, you will most probably suffer from some form of wrist pain. As mothers, we hold our baby a lot to settle them, feed them, and constantly picking them up and putting them down.... Sometimes a formal diagnosis of Dequervains or Carpal Tunnel may be given for wrist pain and usually cortisone injections are recommended. However, you can just come in to see us. We can help a lot with wrist pain. Thanks to Doug Shobbrook for his awesome hand modelling and his adorable baby. J xx

24.01.2022 #Repost @squat_university Did you know Dr. Gabe Mirkin (the man who invented the RICE protocol of rest, ice, compression, elevation) came out in 2013 & said, Subsequent research shows that ice can actually DELAY recovery. Mild movement helps tissue to heal faster, and the application of cold suppresses the immune responses that start and hasten recovery. So, today, RICE is not the preferred treatment for an acute athletic injury. . Despite what you have been told in the past, inflammation is NOT a bad thing after injury. It is a normal biological response that sparks healing. If there is no inflammation, healing is delayed.

23.01.2022 What is medicine?
21.01.2022 We see a lot of women for acupuncture during their last few weeks (or days) of pregnancy for labour encouragement. It's really important for every single pregnant woman out there to know: you can say "NO" to vaginal exams. Especially if your care provider wants to do one at 37, 38, 39 weeks, or anytime before your labour actually begins. You can even decline them during your labour if you wish. Your cervix is NOT a magic crystal ball. It does not predict the future. ... I've had women turn up to my clinic devastated because they were told their cervix was "long, closed and posterior." They were told to book in an induction by the end of the week because "baby is too comfortable and won't come out any time soon". Those same women give birth a day or 2 later. I've also had women who were told they were 4 to 5 cms at 38 weeks and that "they would go into labour any day, so get ready and pack your bags". Those women still went to their due date! I've helped women in labour who went from 4cms to PUSHING within half an hour. So, I repeat, your cervix isn't magic. It doesn't predict the future. Vaginal exams only tell you what your body is doing at that particular moment. And you have the RIGHT to decline them. J xx http://wholewoman.com.au//you-can-not-fail-to-progress-bef
20.01.2022 We hope everyone is having a relaxing long weekend. Teja fixed the pond! (No fish though, sorry).
20.01.2022 In a fantastic recent lecture on classical Chinese medicine, Sabine Wilms provides a quote from Wang Fengyi (1864-1937): "How unfortunate that most people only focus on matters outside themselves, instead of on their Heart and Character! This is indeed a case of 'abandoning the root to pursue the tip'." It is from lessons from ancient teachers that we construct our approach to medicine. This is why we focus so much on lifestyle choices and relationships, especially in fertility medicine. These concepts are not new fads or trends, but are deeply embedded in classical medicine, unperturbed by sociopolitical influences. Without this perspective we can find ourselves desperately and constantly seeking the next new vitamin or supplement...
19.01.2022 For those who were wanting to try the pure protein powder (with no garbage fillers) from my post a few days ago, I've got 3 x 500g bags now in stock. Normally priced at $34.95, I'm selling them atm for $29.95. Hurry!
19.01.2022 If your care provider is suggesting a non-medical induction of labour at 38- 39 weeks, simply because you're "at term", then you might like to have a discussion about this research with them.

16.01.2022 I'm on a few birth related pages, and inevitably the subject of encapsulating one's placenta is brought up. Some well meaning women will offer their services of encapsulating plaventa, some will promote the use of traditional chinese herbs in the method of preparation. I'd like to take this moment to educate everyone that encapsulating/eating one's placenta as a routine thing to do, is not Traditional Chinese Medicine. Placentas were usually buried.... It was only consumed in cases of extreme debilitation, probably where death of the mother was near. Since one of the placentas role is to filter any potential toxins from the mother to the baby, I would be seriously considering the benefit of consuming it if you had to be on any type of medication, for example, but of course not limited to, clexane, anti depressants, blood pressure medication etc I thank Sabine Wilms, classical chinese translator extraordinaire and historian, for her enlightening blog post on this topic. It's a very interesting read. https://www.happygoatproductions.com//placentophagy-and-ch

15.01.2022 Dear Facebook family, As of Monday the 20th July we will have an increase in our fee structure. We have not had a price increase for the past 5 years. During this time we have absorbed every increase in the cost of the running of our business including shipping, equipment (cost of needles, herbs etc), merchant fees, etc. Our subsequent appointments will now be $100. This represents a $10 increase (at $2 per year). We feel this is reasonable and we hope you understand. ... Initial appointments that are long (2 hours for fertility, gynecology, digestion, headaches, general health etc) will now be $200. Initial shorter appointments will be $150. We like to think that we offer a superior service that you can’t get anywhere else. We are generous with our time, our treatments and the information we share within the consults, over email and through social media. We don’t charge for our time when patients request herbs over the phone and need a phone consult. We don’t charge for our time when responding to emails. We go above and beyond because we value your health and we respect the fact that we have built a strong community who have similar views and values. A great sign that we are doing our best work is when past or current patients refer friends and family to us. From the bottom of our hearts we thank you for this and we hope to continue seeing you in our clinic in the future.

09.01.2022 Just recently we had another no-show. A new patient, who had booked an initial appointment for fertility. This is a 2 hour appointment slot. She paid our required $50 deposit for this appointment. She was texted a reminder the day before. When she didn't show, we sent her another message to ask if she was ok, because we know things happen. To which she replied STOP WITH THESE MESSAGES. Weird. ... So that was 2 hours of our time wasted, that we could have filled with patients on our waiting list, who actually WANTED to come in for treatment. This year we implemented the $50 deposit to weed out the patients who weren't serious. But I've really had enough now. So we've now increased the holding fee to a $100 deposit for initial appointments. This is non refundable should a patient not show up or cancel at short notice for no good reason. This fee, of course, is taken off the final fee when the patient comes in. I know you, our lovely patients will understand. I also know that we get a lot of word-of-mouth referrals from our happy patients. Please explain to any new potential patient that the only reason we are implenting this new rule is because of the small RUDE minority that stuff it up for everyone. Happy Sunday everyone!
09.01.2022 As a doula, I've spent a fair amount of time in the labour room supporting women and their partners. I use this knowledge to help my pregnant patients who come in wanting labour encouragement, and they inevitably ask me questions about birth. That bulging thing is the woman's sacrum being pushed out as the baby's head descends waaaaay down low into the pelvis. I cannot stress enough, that a free moving, unobstructed pelvis, will enable a pregnant woman to birth her baby well.... For a sacrum/ tailbone to move and be pushed out, like the woman on the right of the picture, a woman has to be in any birthing position EXCEPT LYING DOWN ON HER BACK ON THE BED. So: If you are on the bed, lie on your SIDE. Your partner can hold your leg up as you push. Get on all fours Kneel on both knees, or on one. Squat. You can ask for a birthing stool. Sit on the toilet. Your baby will NOT fall out. The toilet is perfect because it opens up the pelvis. And stop listening to the horror stories of birth. Birth can be positive and beautiful. Thanks to Trish at Norwest Doula Services for posting this photo. J xx
09.01.2022 We've stocked up on lovely products! Come in and have a browse, we have something for everyone, all natural products, most of which have been personally tested by me!!! The Weleda skin food range is perfect for dry skin, with a clean citrus smell, they do a great body butter and lip balm in that range too. And of course the Weleda calendula baby range is a firm favourite. "Pure" is a range that does paw paw based product, and they have a great vapour balm which is your skin-...friendly, petroleum free alternative to vicks vapour rub. They also do a papaya glow oil, which I may or may not be sneaking in at nights to use the tester before bed I have a heap of the Springfields essential oils. Clary sage, Frankincense, Geranium, Rose, Jasmine, Lavender are great oils for late stage pregnancy and labour. They are affordable oils and made here in Australia. I've got a tonne of other scents too. You can use them blended in with a carrier oil for your body, or add a few drops in your diffuser. For when your little ones go back to school I've got skin friendly hand sanitisers in cute little animal holders that can be attached to their school bags. There's a koala, monkey, dinosaur, unicorn and rabbit one. And lastly if you're ever in need of Bioceuticals or Metagenics products, including probiotics, just drop in. If you're not sure if we stock it, please just call and ask, always happy to make orders for patients. I know these brands can be difficult to get! Jacinda

08.01.2022 Thanks to Debra Betts for discussing this study!! "Some individuals are skeptical that emotional and psychological attributes may be instrumental in affecting fertility," Taylor said. "I hope the results of this study serve a wake-up call for both physicians and the general public that psychological health and well-being is just as important as other more commonly accepted risk factors such as smoking, drinking alcohol, or obesity when trying to conceive." https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases//09/160912161019.htm.

07.01.2022 We have new Himalayan-salt essential oil diffusers in now! These make a perfect christmas gift They come in walnut (pictured on left) or a beech coloured (not photographed). For those who have been to our clinic, you'll be familiar with the white one that greets you as you walk in (picture on right). Have a great weekend! J xx
06.01.2022 DO NOT FLUSH BABY WIPES We had a plumbing emergency yesterday, and of course it happened after hours. And when i say emergency, it was a disaster of epic proportion.... Ben Hern, from Reactive Plumbing, was so great and came out to help us immediately. We have an easement that runs straight through the entire length of our property side fence. It catches all the waste water from houses further up president rd. So one, or more, of these houses is responsible for the excrement that we now have to clean up in our back yard There was a blockage created by BABY WIPES. Ben pulled the blockage out. See picture! Baby wipes might be "flushable" but they ARE NOT biodegradeable. They do not break down with water! They are not biodegradeable in pipes! They cause major blockages and a stench so unimaginably indescribable i can't even begin to describe. Anything is technically "flushable". Menstrual pads are "flushable", as are car keys, condoms, banana skins etc. But we don't go flushing these for good reason. A huge shout out and thank you to Ben from Reactive Plumbing who was quick to help out.... In the dark, up to his ankles in other people's faeces. SHARE THIS POST. STOP FLUSHING BABY WIPES. BIN THEM DON'T FLUSH THEM.

05.01.2022 Mother syndrome is so common you might know someone affected by it. Or you might have had it yourself and be in recovery, or you might not even know you have it. Read our latest blog post on this condition we frequently see in the clinic, and how it could possibly be a contributing factor to your infertility. https://pointspecifics.com.au//mother-syndrome-and-why-it/
05.01.2022 Do you suffer from eczema or dermatitis on your hands? What about random rashes on your hands? Sometimes? All the time? I would love everyone to do a little experiment. Look around your bathroom, and your home, and grab bottles of your personal body cleaning and care products- hand soaps, face cleanser, body soap, body wash, shampoo, baby shampoo and household cleaning products, particularly your dish detergent or anything that FOAMS. ... Now look at the ingredients. In the picture below, i grabbed a bottle of hand soap off the shelf at woollies and snapped the photo. The bottle had very nice packaging, and it said lovely words on it like "natural". The main ingredient is water, but the second highest ingredient is Sodium lauryl ether sulfate. Also known as SLES. It is an ingredient that makes products foamy with a nice "hand feel". It's also a super cheap ingredient for companies to use. The most common side effect of SLES is...skin irritation. While your hands might be able to handle a little bit of this ingredient every so often, if it is in nearly every single product that you are using on yourself, or your babies, multiple times during the day, hundreds of times through the week.... because hands up how much more frequently we're washing our hands now then it might be time you rethink the products you are using, start reading labels and get knowledgeable about ingredients.... J xx
05.01.2022 Last week, I posted a photo of a woman in labour and the amazing shape her pelvis and sacrum made because she was birthing upright. Here are some other benefits when you remain upright during birth. Jacinda xxx
05.01.2022 Menstrual pads- why is it that pad manufacturers think that when a woman has a heavy period she also has a wide set vagina? Also, they can come up with all their "fancy no-bunch" technology, but the only reason the pads bunch in the first place is because they skimp on the glue, and don't actually put glue in the places where it's needed most. Discuss.
04.01.2022 Hi everyone! Many of you already know we have a new addition to the family! Introducing Lianah's puppy Henry . We've had a relaxed week in clinic to give us all time to acclimate, and now we're back in action fulltime. Please be patient with us if you hear any of us crying in the background... Lianah has been pestering us for 10 years to get a dog, and there's been no end of negotiations to get us to this point. We've been hesitant due to the clinic and home environment, and our efforts to keep the space as peaceful as possible for our clients. The main reason we set up a home practice was so that both of us could spend equal time with Lianah as she grew up. Part of this growing now is her facing the responsibility of caring for and nurturing something beyond her music.
03.01.2022 The other day a patient mentioned they were taking Yakult for their digestion. To be honest, I had never read the ingredients, so when I was at the supermarket I took a pic so I could study when I got home. I didn't realise it contains 2 different types of sugar - Sugar and Dextrose. And if I'm reading correctly, it contains 11g of sugar, which is 2 teaspoons worth. No wonder people like the taste of this! Then they add flavouring...but that's all it says, just, "flavouring...". And that's the thing with labels, the Australian standards allow this wafty description. But the biggest kicker is that the majority of this product is water. Not to mention the teeny tiny bottles of plastic! I think if you're looking for something good for digestive health, homemade kefir, or fermented foods, might be a better way to go. See more

03.01.2022 Grandad's honey will soon be available! His bees are very, very busy right now collecting all the pollen from his flowering plants and trees in his garden. His honey is VERY POPULAR for a reason. It is raw and organic. It is not heat treated and it is 100%pure. And it's delicious! If you do not want to miss out on a jar, please call Kaye on 8807 2828 to put your name down on the reservation list.
03.01.2022 Yesterday I was asked by a pregnant patient about Clary Sage. Clary sage oil is often used in late stage pregnancy and during labour to help stimulate the uterus and encourage contractions. It's best used when mixed with a carrier oil and massaged onto the skin, but in particular on the abdomen. I usually blend clary sage with frankincense, geranium and lavender for a wonderful smelling oil that has added labour encouragement benefits. Clary sage can also be used for menstru...al cramps. We sell lots of oils here now (and they're a lot more affordable than the some other popular brands) or I am more than happy to make you up a blend that you can use during labour if you don't want to buy individual bottles of oils. J xx
