24.01.2022 Great work being done @empowermentwellness Music always makes things better!

24.01.2022 Adele is one of our Friday Active UP participants. She has had major spinal surgery this year and has worked hard on her recovery. This was taken just before she headed off to the the Tiwi Islands to visit her daughter. She considers her Activator poles essential to give her stability on the beaches and in the bush in this marvellous and remote part of Australia. Have fun Adele!

23.01.2022 Care Expo-Brisbane. Come and see us at booth 16!

22.01.2022 Was it 5 years ago already that the Creswick Pole Walkers had their 10th anniversary? It was a terrific day sharing their various journeys with poles. Thanks guys, for starting me off on mine!

21.01.2022 Here is a short video showing the technique of how to hike up and down hills-soft ground.

19.01.2022 Only 2 sleeps to go! If you are a Brisbane or SEQ therapist, this should be a cracker. Come and see us at booth 16 where you or your clients can see and try out the Activator poles, ask any questions you like, and take advantage of Expo special pricing on all models. https://tickets.lup.com.au/care-expo-bne-2020?cat=BCARE20

19.01.2022 A serene scene in Wagga Wagga, sent to us by Cate Logan, a keen Urban Poler who finds the best spots to walk with her 4Life poles! Thanks Cate!

17.01.2022 Tis the season for Christmas breakups...falalalala...

16.01.2022 I am always banging on about poles and posture. One of the biggest benefits I have seen with regular Urban and Activator pole walkers of all ages is upper back muscular endurance. This article is written by a pole walker who has personally seen the benefits in this area. https://torontosun.com//woloshyn-nordic-walking-improves-p

15.01.2022 Here we are on beautiful Bribie Island with the Parkinson’s Support group practicing alternate arm patterns and warming up for our walk. Not that we needed to warm up much as it was pretty warm already!

15.01.2022 Hiking training with Robyn and Marie, who are doing a fundraising trek at Cradle Mountain in November for Shelter Box, a very worthy cause supported by their Rotary club. Hiking tips???- remember that hiking is not about power and propulsion, but support and assistance. As such, my number 1 tip is to keep the poles closer to you, but still slightly on the diagonal, and then you can control them better and are less likely to trip up the person behind you. Tip no. 2- practice, practice, practice!!!! https://shelterbox-tasmania-trek-2020.raisely.com/robynandm

15.01.2022 Adventure poles - my favourites! These are the go to poles for hiking, trekking, bushwalking, tramping or whatever else you wish to call it. They have the excellent Core Grip handle that all our poles have, but are a three piece pole with a twist lock mechanism. This means that they collapse to a small 63.5 cm. They fit a medium size suitcase or large backpack. I love the strapless handle for hiking as it means you can easily let go to take photos or rearrange items. Also, if you do lose your footing you can let go and use your hands to save yourself without having the issue of having to worry about a pole attached to you. I have used my Adventure poles for many single and multi day hikes and find that they are especially useful for steep uphill and downhill slopes. Stay tuned for more tips...

15.01.2022 Hiking downhill and uphill - keep the poles close to you and use them to support you when going downhill, and to assist you when going up. Always lean into the slope. Use the rubber feet when on rocky ground as they will grip the surface better. I always carry them with me as I can take them off if needed and they don't take up much room.

14.01.2022 Our pole walking ladies spent a few days at Maleny doing a few of the bush walks there. The walk to to Kondalilla Falls has some lovely spots. This one was at the top of the falls.

12.01.2022 Next in our series of Urban Pole models - 4Life poles. These 2-piece Urban Poles are one of our two go-to models of poles for regular Urban Poling and are designed for fitness. They have the same unique strapless ergonomic CoreGrip common to all the Urban Pole models, as well as a twist mechanism for adjusting the height. Show your support for cancer wellness and be the most fashionable Nordic walker on your block with pink 4Life poles. I especially love the cute pink boots that come with them! A percentage of sales of these poles goes to assisting not-for profit wellness organisations like Dragons Abreast.

12.01.2022 Way to go Kristen from @capitalnordicwalking! A great piece on the fitness benefits of walking with poles on ABC News. https://www.msn.com//canberra-woman-set-on-mak/vp-BB1d0KgI

12.01.2022 Here is the ABC TV news item about Kristen and her walking group, in case anyone missed it. Canberra is definitely the Nordic Walking Capital of Australia!

11.01.2022 Our poles have been invaluable to us in many places, including Tasmania, Jordan, Israel and New Zealand, as well as closer to home in South East Queensland. Here are just a few photos of our travels...

10.01.2022 2020 review - part 2 So then we had shut down. We can’t really call it a full lockdown as we were able to walk locally so we’re in a much better position than some people we know. However, our lovely groups went quiet for a few months. By the end of the year though, we were all up and running again.

10.01.2022 Yeay Joy! So great to see this lovely lady enjoying life and contributing to her community. People often find that using the poles helps them to go further, which in turn increases their fitness and the circle continues.

10.01.2022 We had a great time at our first ever Care Expo. This Covid-safe event showcased products and services designed to make life easier for those in the disability and aged care communities. It was really enjoyable meeting people from all over South East Qld and letting them see and try our great range of Urban Poles.

08.01.2022 So what are you waiting for? Grab your poles and get walking!

07.01.2022 Woo hoo!!! Back to Saturday walks this weekend for me. The Saturday morning walk at Shorncliffe, on Brisbane’s North side, aka Bramble Bay Nordic Walkers, is now affiliated with the Heart Foundation. It has gone from strength to strength over the last 2 years, thanks to the dedicated walkers who come every week to exercise and enjoy the sea views. The level of fitness varies from the fast and furious to strollers but we all meet up at the end for a well earned coffee. If you are in Brisbane and would like to check them out, why don’t you jump on their Fb page- Nordic Walking & Urban Poling SE-QLD

07.01.2022 This is a great page for inspiration to get up, grab your poles, and get walking!

06.01.2022 WE often get asked about the difference in Urban Poling models so I thought I would do a series of posts on the various models of Urban Poles available in Australia, their features and what they are best suited for. Today I will start with the most popular model - the original Activator. This model features: -Strapless Core Grip hand grip and 3 point anti-vibration mechanisms ( as in all Urban Poling models).... -Button locking extension mechanism (max weight per pole is 90 kg, recommended maximum user weight is 136 kg) and is adjustable to a maximum user height of 183 cm. -Bell shaped tip The Activator pole is held vertically, not diagonally like other Nordic poles, hence the bell shaped tips, and this gives the user more stability and lower limb joint offloading. This pole is best for those who require extra support when walking, and may be used as a walking aid, as well as a therapy or exercise tool. Activators are great for improving walking pattern, function and endurance in conditions such as Parkinson's, CVA, post hip and knee surgery, chronic lower limb pain/OA, those with balance issues, and older, frailer adults. I find that they are great for dynamic stability when exercising with clients also.

05.01.2022 A fabulous community group created by Kristen Pratt from Capital Nordic Walking in the ACT. A great example of how a group can grow and thrive with good oversight, logistics and champions to spread the word and connect people. A true wellness community.

05.01.2022 Here are a few photos of Activator poles in action - 1/ Our friend and walker extraordinaire Bruce on holidays in the NSW High country 2/ One of my Friday exercise class members, Val, on our regular 1/2 hr walk 3/ The Friday crew

02.01.2022 Our pole walking ladies group have just spent a weekend in the hills doing some bushwalking. It was a chance to do a bit more off-roading I have attached a video we took of a stream crossing. The important thing to note with slippery crossings like this is the 3 points of contact rule. Make sure you have your two poles down before stepping. Safety first always!
