25.01.2022 Wishing our #festivalfamily a joyous and restful Easter - Wesoych wiat

23.01.2022 This coming weekend, the 28th and 29th of November, is your very last chance to experience our Festival's Cinema. There are a number of brilliant films to choose from, including a film about the work of Polish missionaries in Papua New Guinea with the music of the outstanding composer, Cezary Skubiszewski. You'll also find three films by outstanding and incredibly talented Polish actors from Melbourne - Marta Kaczmarek in "Beast" by Christopher Sferrazza and Kristof Kaczmarek... in "Transmission" and "Next of Kin" by Nicholas Carlton. Be sure to head to our website this weekend to enjoy the wonder of cinema: www.polishfestival.com.au/category/more-than-music/

22.01.2022 This festival throwback, we're remembering the array of delicious food available each year - from our savoury delights such as "pierogi" (polish dumplings), or our sweet treats such as "paczki" (doughnuts). What Polish foods do you want to get your hands on?

21.01.2022 With 15 cultural World Heritage Sites and 1 natural World Heritage Site, there sure is plenty to see in Poland - including the world’s biggest castle, Malbork. The construction was begun by the Teutonic Knights in the 13th century and was their headquarters for almost 150 years. Malbork Castle is not only an architectural work of unique character, but a symbol of power and cultural tradition.

21.01.2022 So incredible seeing Iga witek become a grand slam champion - so well deserved!

21.01.2022 We may be biased, but there's nothing better than Polish comfort food - complete with plenty of carbs, potatoes and butter. What's your go-to Polish comfort food?

20.01.2022 While the last year may have changed the world as we know it, not quite everything has changed and that's the Grand Finale of the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity, which is still taking place this Sunday the 10th of January. There are few non-governmental initiatives which have helped shape the social landscape of a country in the way the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity, or as most Poles know it WOSP, has influenced Poland and the Polish people. Established in 199...3 by Jurek Owsiak, the charity is the biggest NGO in Poland. Beside financing several medical initiatives and educational projects, the GOCC raises funds to buy modern medical equipment for public hospitals in Poland every year. In 2017 a group of volunteers organized the very first Australian fundraiser event in Melbourne. Today, there are three collection centers: in Melbourne, in Sydney and in Perth and they hope to have more people involved in this initiative in the future. While the nature of this year's event may have changed, it is still going to be a memorable day. We are sure that the group of volunteers have organised a fabulous event that will be as vibrant, colourful and joyful as all our previous events. This is an opportunity for the Polish community in Melbourne to engage in social activism but also to bond and share the happiness of giving. This is also a great way to meet new people, experience Polish culture and strengthen a vibrant, diverse community. Join in on the 10th January, 2021 from 9.00 a.m. For locations and more information, please head to https://www.facebook.com/MelbsWOSP or email the team at [email protected] "

19.01.2022 Piwnica Swidnicka is one of the oldest (if not the oldest) restaurants in Europe, and also one of the oldest in the world. Located in Wroclaw, the restaurant has been open since 1273.

16.01.2022 Today is a special day for us Poles - on this day 230 years ago, Poland became the 1st constitutional state in Europe (and 2nd in the world after the United States). The Constitution of 3 May 1791 is considered one of the most important achievements in the history of Poland, despite being in effect for only a year, until the Russo-Polish War of 1792. The memory of the 3 May Constitutionrecognised by political scientists as a very progressive document for its timefor generations helped keep alive Polish aspirations for an independent and just society, and continued to inform the efforts of its authors' descendants. In Poland it is viewed as a national symbol, and the culmination of all that was good and enlightened in Polish history and culture.

16.01.2022 Time to introduce you to someone you may not have known had Polish heritage. Although born in New Zealand, Keith Urban was born to Polish parents who immigrated to Australia. He is an Australian country music singer, songwriter and guitarist whose commercial success has been mainly in the United States and Australia. He has released 12 albums, numerous singles and won countless awards including three Grammys. What other famous Poles would you like to learn about? Let us know ...in the comments below! : Keith Urban

16.01.2022 We’ve loved seeing how our Festival Friends have adapted during the wild times and what better way than bringing a touch of folk to your daily lives? Our friends over at Lowicz Polish Vocal-Dance Ensemble folked it up at home during their spring cleaning recently - if this is what cleaning looks like, it can’t be all bad. Right?

10.01.2022 Today we’re throwing it back to our 2012 festival - remembering a time we could gather in crowds in our beautiful city of Melbourne to celebrate our Polish culture. We’re counting down the days until we can see you in-person again.

08.01.2022 While this year has certainly thrown us all a curveball (or 20), it’s been especially heartwarming to see how individuals, groups and communities have stepped up to support one another. It’s been so wonderful to see the outpouring of love and support from one festival friend in particular - Kukueczka Polish Dance Group. Sending messages and packages of support to our local dance groups, they’ve shown us the true strength and unity of our extended Polish family and there’s truly nothing quite like it. We can’t wait to have you back on our festival stage!

01.01.2022 On this day in 1939 - 81 years ago - Poland’s last resistance to the Soviet and German invasions ended, though Poland never formally surrendered. Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union divided the country in accordance with a secret clause in the German-Soviet Non-Aggression Pact, with the dividing line for the partition along the Bug River.
