11.01.2022 First Nations people are over represented in most areas of disadvantage. Recently, we have experienced an overwhelming number of suicides, including unacceptably young people. In response, the community called an emergency meeting to discuss how we could activate to provide support. The response has been amazing. Every Sunday the park is filled with family and friends reconnecting with each other and our culture. Research suggests that providing opportunities for cultural a...nd community connection is healing. Researchers also say we need to provide opportunities for people to have a say on things that matter to them - especially issues that impact us directly. 'Politics in the park' events will be an opportunity for First Nations people and allies to engage in political discourse with decision makers. It’s an opportunity to make sure that the voices of First nations people are heard by those with political power. We invite our allies to help fill the croquet club with unified voices in support! Bring a picnic and a blanket and get comfortable while we break down the issues that most affect both First Nations and local people.

07.01.2022 Did you know that providing opportunities for cultural and community connection is healing. Researchers also say we need to provide opportunities for people to have a say on things that matter to us - especially issues that impact us directly. 'Politics in the park' this Sunday at the croquet club at Musgrave Park will be an opportunity to engage directly with decision makers. It’s an opportunity to make sure your voice is heard. Bring a picnic and a blanket and get comfort...able while we break down the issues that most affect both First Nations and local people. Gates open from 1:30pm - come down early for a chance to chat with your local MP, Treasurer and Minister for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships, Jackie Trad.

06.01.2022 Politics in the Park is your chance to come speak directly with those who make decisions that affect you. Politics in the Park will be inviting both community and political leaders to take the stage at the Croquet Club at Musgrave Park. While our guests will be on the stage, this event is really about giving our community a voice. It’s a chance for community to speak directly to decision makers and be heard. It’s a chance to tell our story. To kick off this important event ...we’ve invited decision makers and community leaders: Deputy Premier, Treasurer, Minister for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships and Member for South Brisbane Jackie Trad, Gangulu man and former Social Justice Commissioner Mick Gooda, and Murris in the Park leader, Yarraka Bayles. We’ve invited many more community leaders to be in the audience to lead the conversation - elders, climate warriors, and artists. This is not a meeting where we put leaders up on the stage and have a go at them for an hour. This event is designed to help us amplify community voices and build real relationships. Bring along a picnic blanket and make your self comfortable while we break down the biggest issues that matter to our community. See more
