23.01.2022 Art therapy: Six months and counting, we are throwing back to our Thursday lunchtime art sessions adopted this year at our Siteworks studio; a special place for us and as part of a wonderful community. We started this to get loose on paper, cross-pollinate and to see how we interpret in different ways as we experiment. What comes out on paper, together, is a special collaborative approach with no rules, but a lot of respect for each other's individual expressions. Our last session was about how we saw Siteworks, whatever that meant for us. We are looking forward to returning to our studio, bringing back our plants and checking in on our Siteworks family, plant and bee friends that we have been missing.

22.01.2022 Back on site @kynetononriverside with @conservationvolunteers yesterday. Habitat boulders are in, jute matting is almost complete and mulching next. This ambitious revegetation project will engage with local community (where safe to do so) to plant almost 25,000 plants, transforming a farm drainage line into a diverse, buzzing and ever changing ecosystem. Council’s environment team asked us to set the ‘gold standard’ for waterway restoration projects across the municipality and we aim to deliver! #rewilding #landscapearchitecture #healthywaterwayshealthycommunities

21.01.2022 Going back into the office has a few advantages, such as getting our hands on some real-world things like product samples. Featured here are some delicious looking concrete colour samples, a bunch of paving options including 'glow-in-the-dark' aggregate, and a spectrum of apples foraged from the side of the road in Gippsland.

18.01.2022 #Indigenouslivesmatter #blacklivesmatter #blackouttuesday It’s time for change.

16.01.2022 Introducing our new Pollen recruits Liv and Georgia, practicing their physical distancing for when the team returns to the studio soon. Welcome!

10.01.2022 Dear future pollinator, The time has come! We hope this is the love letter you have been waiting for. Win us over with your passion, your brilliance. We'd like to get to know you, for you to get to know us and to see what we can do together.... We’re a studio built on a hand-made ethos that’s highly responsive to all stakeholders and their broader social and environmental contexts. Over the last 10 years, our team of talented and committed landscape architects has been all about nurturing projects, the people that make them and the communities who are served by them. Curate us a folio of what you've loved learning about, what you've enjoyed working on and what has challenged you. It would be great to know you share our values. We’d love to see them in your folio and your prose. ... We have a crop of exciting projects, too many to even name and some we are not allowed to. We’re doing our most significant public plaza redesign, relinking ecological corridors in the city, customising furniture and getting involved with passionate communities across Victoria. We need your help contributing to the team designing all of this. You need to be a qualified Landscape Architect, an easy-going allrounder with some secret superpowers. We’d love it if you’ve used Vectorworks before, be into AILA and have a driver's licence. We’re after a new teammate with four-plus years experience. We also like surprises, so might have room for someone a little greener if you know you're the one. ... Get in touch with us, keep your CV and folio concise, and if you look like you might be the right fit we’ll pop a Zoom link in your inbox ASAP. Email [email protected] We can’t wait for you to join our mission to empower communities to connect with and love their environment.

09.01.2022 Akira Ode-Smith has felt like a member of Pollen for a long time, in his work at @siteworks and with @sitestudio he has been hanging around our office, sharing interesting ideas and conversations. We are very happy to announce that a few weeks ago he became the 8th member of the Pollen team. Welcome, Akira.

09.01.2022 A small insight into the brain of a Landscape Architect - This time-lapse shows our team working on the early concept stage of an urban park design, trying to squeeze as much planting in as we can.

05.01.2022 As Julian Raxworthy points out in Overgrown, maintenance is crucial in our relationship to landscape and land. Pollen believes in the power of having maintenance teams involved as early as possible in any project, to be onside as part of the design process. This image (taken before COVID) shows us on-site with the maintenance crew from Frankston City Council, tapping into their experience and knowledge of local plant performance, local climate and their own tools and techniques: making sure their role as stewards of place is valued and nurtured. This planting plan is part of the Fletcher Road Greening Project, which aims to foster biodiversity in the urban fabric of Frankston.

03.01.2022 Recognise this facade? We are excited to be working on a project at this location, which has given us a bit of time to look back on the history of the Palais Theatre. Did you know that the original structure was designed by the Burley Griffins, but burned to the ground halfway through construction? We are hoping to take a few design cues from the past, and honour two of Australia's iconic architects and landscape architects. We're also looking forward to showing you more of this project...
