24.01.2022 The Pomborneit State School No.1031. Classes were originally held in the local Presbyterian church until 1888, when the building pictured was moved to Pomborneit. Sadly, the Pomborneit State School closed in 1981. #pomborneit #pomborneitnorthcommunityhall

24.01.2022 The former Pomborneit Post Office. The first Post Office at Pomborneit was at Bowkers home then at the Railway Station for the 1897-98 period. Mrs Burns then operated the first Post Office at 2601 Princes Highway, Pomborneit. The building had formerly been a Butchers Shop run by Duncan McFarland Brown and at the time it first became the Post Office it was also a General Store. Mrs Williams ran the Post Office from 1910 and then her daughter Mrs. Densmore ran it until 1953. Mrs. Kathleen McKenzie, Mrs Williams’ granddaughter, took over from Mrs Densmore and remained as postmistress until her death in 1982. Upon Mrs McKenzies’ death the Post Office was closed (additional information courtesy of the Corangamite Shire Heritage Study). #pomborneit #pomborneitnorthcommunityhall #pomborneitnorth #corangamite #corangamiteshire

23.01.2022 The former Pomborneit Presbyterian Church, built in 1869. The church was used as the home of the Pomborneit State School until 1888, and also was used by the Church of England until the St James Church was opened in Pomborneit North in 1913. The Pomborneit Presbyterian Church held it’s last service in the 1980’s and is now a private residence. #pomborneit #pomborneitnorth #pomborneitnorthcommunityhall

18.01.2022 Pomborneit East State School No. 4126 opened in 1924 on land purchased from the Kelly family. When the school closed in the early 1970s, the building and land were sold back to the Kelly family. Richard E. McGarvie is a notable former student at the school, he was appointed to the Supreme Court of Victoria on 1 June 1976, and served as a judge until 22 April 1992. He was appointed Governor of Victoria from 1992 to 1997. The building is now a private residence and is looking ...great after being painted recently. #pomborneiteast #pomborneitnorthcommunityhall #pomborneit

06.01.2022 The former St James Anglican Church, Pomborneit North. For many years the Church of England held it’s services in the Pomborneit Presbyterian Church, before starting services in the Pomborneit North Hall on August 7th, 1910. The St James Church was then built, with it’s first service on August 3rd, 1913. The church held it’s last service on April 9th, 2006, and was sold in 2008.
