This is an opportunity for us all to get out items in our wardrobes that could be given a new lease on lifer rather than being thrown away or stored in the back of the cupboard.... 12.01.2022 Jane's workshop details: Take on the upcycling challenge We are sewing outside the lines at these upcycling sessions developed to inspire and empower you to refashion and reinvent existing textiles into personalized garments. We will discuss various upcycling techniques and implement your own upcycles within the timeframe depending on whether you attend one, two or all three days. We are into experimentation. The suggestions below are not prescriptive and we can go off-scri...pt if you have other ideas. Day One making small changes to restyle, hand-stitch and embellish, chop and change hemlines/sleeves (hand-sewing, suitable for beginners) or make a zero-waste dress from a rectangle of fabric (bring 2-3 metres) Day Two flip skirts for a fresh silhouette (some skirts provided or byo) or fillet denim jeans and resew into a pinafore or tunic (3 pair of jeans, sewing experience required) Day Three subtraction cut techniques to utilize large random pieces of fabric or doonas (some sewing experience needed, byo 2-3 metres fabric or old bed linen) These are inspirational sessions for those ready to refashion as an act of sustainability and expression of individual style. Sewing experience is preferred, but beginners welcome and will be able to do simple upcycling. What to bring: sewing machine (if you have one), and sewing kit (scissors, needle, threads, pin etc) garments you love but aren’t wearing and, three pair of jeans if you want to make a denim pinny, several metres of remnant fabric or a doona cover to make a subtraction cut dress. Jane is providing boxes of natural fibre garments and denim to share, so there will be no shortage of fabric resources. BYO refreshments for the day. See more
