13.01.2022 Thirty years ago this week, Vascular Surgery was revolutionalized by the first endovascular (minimally invasive) repair of an aortic aneurysm. On 7 September 1990, Juan Parodi, an Argentinian Vascular Surgeon, after many years of research implanted the first graft. Aortic aneurysms are a potentially life threatening ballooning of the biggest artery in the body. These traditionally required a high risk 4+ hour operation with weeks and months of recovery. Thanks to this amazing work, aneurysms are now fixed in a keyhole operation, with a recovery of days! It is difficult to explain what a dramatic impact and benefit to patients Parodi has had!
