By rescuing surplus and unsold food and distributing it to charities to feed hungry families, we saved 19.7 million kilos of food from going to landfill in FY20. Had this food ended up in landfill, it would have produced an estimated 37.5 million kilos of greenhouse gas emissions. It's a win-win: when we're helping to end food waste, we're helping to end hunger too. #sustainability #carbonfootprint #endhunger

Issy told us, "I find coming and being a part of the Rotary collection group every week is such a simple thing to do on my part while also making a really positive difference to the lives of people who are really struggling for enough healthy nourishing foods. I feel now is an especially important time to be working alongside organisations like SecondBite, because their work is helping families and people who are hungrier than ever after experiencing the effects of COVID 19. Knowing I’m helping the community in a way that is so hands on makes me feel so happy." The Coles Wilsonton team invited FoodAssist Toowoomba Operations Manager Harvinder to join a 'team huddle' earlier this month to learn more about the vital community work they support.
