24.01.2022 Our kindergarten children had their first session of Bush Kinder yesterday All dressed up in our coveralls and gum boots, we headed down to the local reserve to connect to nature and explore our land through play. Some magical moments captured were our tree climbing, investigating bugs under bark and collecting sticks and natural treasures to build with. As we have been exploring the ever changing sky, our kinder children were keeping a closer eye on our clouds waiting for the rain. It was just so amazing to observe the kinders just being one with their world. They jumped, ran, skipped, rolled and climbed through this natural environment. The learning and play opportunities were endless!

23.01.2022 A week ago, our kindergarten children were able to extend on their interest of their world around them through the "@balegrow" incursion. Tracey joined us during morning gathering and shared some stories and hands-on experiences about our living world and taking care of plants. We began by exploring the connection between recycling and looking after plants, and then we shared a story called "The Red Hen" which discussed growing wheat to make food . We were brought back to our interest in the sky as we explored how the sky makes our rain and has the sun in it to make the plants grow. Now for the fun part, we got hands in to our very own bale garden as we gathered outside in smaller groups to plant a variety of small plants, flowers and herbs. Please come and have a look at our garden when you come and visit next .

19.01.2022 Play is the highest form of research - Albert Einstein. Our Kinder children have shown an interest in counting, multiplication and numbers so our kinder teacher, Jess created a play based maths area! The children love exploring how the calculators function!

18.01.2022 Every year, National Reconciliation Week is celebrated from the 27th of May to the 3rd of June. It is a time dedicated to building positive, respectful relationships between Australians and celebrating Indigenous culture. Indigenous teachings and cultures are already embedding in our program and environments here at Pooh Bears House, but across the centre this week all our age groups will participating in activities focusing on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture. ...On Monday our kindergarten children and some pre-kinder children gathered together to welcome the Wurundjeri Indigenous Elder, Ian. This gathering, or yarning as Ian referred to it as, was a wonderful way to share stories and music about everyday life a long time ago here in Australia. We took a closer look at wattle leaves that are found at kinder, as they can help make fires, be used in our cooking and also makes soap to wash our hands. We explored the musical instrument the didgeridoo and learnt a ceremonial dance with clap sticks. Throughout these hands-on experiences, Ian talked about his families and ancestors, and told little stories from when he was growing up. Our kinder children were fascinated with the boomerangs and Ian demonstrated an easy way to make them out of paper. What a beautiful way for our young children to connect with the culture of their land.

08.01.2022 Yesterday’s Botanic Gardens Excursion . We must teach our children to smell the earth, to taste the rain, to touch the wind, to see things grow, to hear the sun rise and night fall to care. ~ John Cleal Our curious kindergarteners journeyed to the Royal Botanical Gardens where we explored and connected to our natural world and beautiful community. What a beautiful day full of close up inquiry, hands on experiences and just good old fun in nature. Using our senses of tou...ch, smell, sight and sound we explored the edible garden. We learnt if you rub the leaf of the plant we could smell the beautiful scent of the plant, even one that smelt like lemonade. We travelled down stream and explored the concept of sinking and floating through the collection of natural things. It turned into little races as our leaves, bark and seed pods floated down the water. We looked so tiny in the tall bamboo garden as we were able to climb and weave through the maze. As we walked through the gardens we looked out for animals and birds. We gathered to learn about things that grow through planting our very own daffodils . We are excited to watch them grow throughout winter. We were lucky enough with piles and piles of Autumn leaves that covered the gardens. We took this opportunity to roll around and throw the leaves in the air. How magical! To finish off our beautiful day we gathered at the duck pond to share songs and our faviourite parts of the day.
