24.01.2022 It's officially day one of winter here down under! To mark this occasion (brr!), I've just closed my commission books (that includes repairs and restorations), so that I can get those already in house finished, as well as returning my attention to mould making over the cooler months. Hopefully, by the time spring rolls around here we'll have Laguna Clay back in the country (just call me the eternal optimist), and I'll have some new moulds dried out and ready to test, and not just plaques. Mind you, I am really looking forward to sooo many colour combinations on this sucker! Plenty of cheap and cheerful earthenware ponies in the online shop for now, all very reasonably priced in Aussie dollars. https://www.poolesponypottery.com.au

12.01.2022 Commission order of horse head plaques, ready for their colour fire. Please ignore the backgrounds - they will eventually be art glazed. As always, some colours will soften, some will deepen with firing, especially once the gloss glaze is applied.

08.01.2022 Almost finished and just in need of some final touches is this rare beast, cast from a mould I made back in 2005. I called this piece The Swagman, as my original intent was to depict a young Galloway hack gelding. This one, the first I have made from this mold since 2005, is only number four in the edition, and is a lovely chestnut filly - like a newly minted copper penny. The first 3 poured all went to the same buyer back in 2005: two were bisque, the other I cold paint...ed in bay. The mold itself is not something to brag about - I did a terrible job with the plaster which means it’s almost impossible to get a casting out of it, they usually tear apart. Anyway, I thought you’d like to see photos of this almost finished lovely girl, and appreciate her for what she is: a handmade china horse made from a handmade plaster mold (all done by yours truly) AND one of only four in the world.
